Q:What type or is there a pain with the same color I can use with a spray machine.

Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest, Steve! Since Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Deck Resurfacer and the other RockSolid deck coatings are intended to be applied thicker, we do not recommend applying any of them with a paint sprayer. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I used restore about 12 years ago and the product held up very well. The deck was actually 6 years old when we applied it. Good Stuff! My question is, can I re coat this thing again? Will it stick to itself 12 years later if the surface is prepped?

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help! While full removal is not needed, to ensure full adhesion of Rust-Oleum RockSolid 20X Deck Resurfacer over the existing application, we do recommend priming with Rust-Oleum RockSolid Deck Start Wood Primer. You will want to thoroughly clean and remove anything loose as well. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-1-Gal-Deck-Start-Exterior-Wood-Primer-Clear-312283/307428127 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

          Doesn't last
We followed the instructions to a tee, then ended up doing two coats because of how much you have to buy for good coverage. Easily $1000 project and we would have rather probably just replaced boards. Showed signs of weathering about 6 months in. Photo shows after 2 years....

Not a full gallon. 3.6 quarts is all you get
This product is way over priced and they claim you get a gallon but it is 3.625 quarts is all you get. Almost 10% less than they claim. It works well. You MUST use the 20x roller for optimal results. In one area where I brushed it on it quickly wore off and was no good. The rolled on with their course 20x roper is superb. I want my 10% discount for the false size claim!!!

Excellent product, however two of the cans popped open at lid and leaked a bit.

              Sorry, can't recommend this
First of all, it's crazy expensive. But....after doing some research and talking to a local painter, it came fairly highly recommended. Unfortunately that was not my experience. My deck was old and covered with several layers of old paint, so I had it blasted to get down to clean wood. After they cleaned it, I washed it with the Rocksolid deck wash and allowed it to dry completely which happened fast since it sits in the sun. I primed it twice because the first coat soaked in quickly and waited until the next day to paint. I used a tarp on my railings to keep any dew off, but there was none and no purple-ish color so it should've been dry. Then came the application, it went down on a cloudy day, so the deck wasn't hot to the touch. This stuff's thick. Really thick so it took a long time to apply and get a nice coating on the deck and fill in any large-ish cracks and keep it mixed. As a prior review noted, the roller doesn't hold much so you have to go slow or risk pulling it off. My deck is just under 500 square feet so again, it took a while. Let it dry for a week as we left that night. Looked great once it was done and lasted the summer with the traffic from 2 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs and a good number of guests. Then came the next spring. The pics below are what I found when I opened up in the spring and are about what it looks like now, minus some more paint. It basically came up in strips and bubbles up when it gets wet, so I'm having it blasted off and will try a good epoxy laid down by a pro. I was hoping for more than one season out of it, but the response from Rustoleum was to re-coat and it's too expensive to do every year. Can't in good conscience recommend this to anyone unless maybe if a pro puts it down to be sure it's done right or it's done on new wood, but even the newer planks on my deck bubbled and stripped off so I don't know.

We hate to hear that this happened, this is not at all what we expect from our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer. This coating system is designed to last for many years on weathered decks, and it backed by a limited lifetime warranty. If you have any questions about the application or your warranty claim, please do not hesitate to contact us at 800-373-6333, we are happy to help! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

                Disappointed
I watched all of the Rust-Oleum videos to make sure that I applied this product correctly. I purchased all of the recommended supplies, from the deck cleaner to the roller cover. I painted Monday morning, & then let it dry (48 hrs before rain). I noticed that it didn’t look great as it dried—the color was uneven and it looked bubbly. It rained Wednesday, and after the rain cleared I checked the deck, & m I am devastated. The paint is not hard, but gooey and bubbly all over. I can see that it is going to peel. This wasn’t a cheap product, & I expected a much better finish. Not sure what I’m going to do now.

This is my 2nd time using Rustoleum on my deck, I’ve previously used 10x which was very durable for many years. The 20x product is thicker and needs to be applied much quicker. It is great for filling in deck cracks and exposed nails with a nice textured finish. It does get a bit hot on sunny days, so make sure you have on shoes.

I had the product professionally shaken at Home Depot 2x longer (per the guy behind the counter). The product is like spreading frosting it is SO thick. The product is full of a sand like filler/texture that will not spread evenly, not by recommended roller or brush. Some parts of the deck are VERY textured and some parts are shiny with no texture at all. It does fill in the cracks, that it does do. I covered a 15 year old deck with it and a newly constructed wood ramp. The product could not evenly coat either. The finished product looks absolutely terrible.

That is not what we like to hear! Our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer is an ultra-thick deck coating, and must be applied using the specialized companion roller cover. While using this roller, the coating should be pushed out and spread, not applied in the back and forth motion typically used with normal paint. If you would like to give us a call at 800-373-6333, we will be happy to help with tips to get the application looking the way it should. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-9-in-20X-One-Coat-Roller-318223/307428130 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

After 3 yrs of repeatedly scraping, sanding, priming & painting our wooden porch floors only for the paint to peel off again & again, a friend of ours told us about RockSolid. After just one coat, it was evident that we may have found the product of our porch dreams. It is waterproof, feels great to walk on, and I believe will make it through the Southern Illinois seasons just fine. The product looks great, too.

                  Not Happy
Applied 20x Product two years back to get textured look on a new deck with proper instruction. Applied Primer first and then product to get maximum durability but still last week when I cleaned deck with just a regular hose there is lot of paint that chipped away. I used thick and expensive product to save myself from putting them again for 4-5 years. When i called Rustoleum support they asked me to re coat it....If i have to recoat it every 2 years i should use some other cheaper stain instead.

That is not what we like to hear! Our RockSolid 20x Deck Resurfacer is designed to last much longer than 2 years, and these results are not typical, nor what we expect from this coating. Recoating is certainly the best way to repair chipping or peeling, however, this is not something that should be expected, or need to be repeated. Our Product Support Team will be able to assist you with our satisfaction guarantee, and provide the product needed to recoat the surface. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum
