Q:How long does this cordless trimmer run on a single charge?

Answer This Question

A:  It's going to depend on use. I use it to do all the edging and trimming on my half acre yard. 20 - 30 minutes of use of edging flowerbeds, walkways, patios etc. Completely full battery sometimes does even drop a bar.

A:  Hi DaytonJim! The runtime often varies on battery used, cutting swath, and mode. In the fifth image of the image reel above, you can view in depth information on work done with the Dual Battery String Trimmer! This breakdown factors for cutting swath, mode, and battery used. - Milwaukee Tool Social Team

Powerful, good length for taller people and a bit heavy
For comparison I have been using a two stroke 25 cc straight shaft string trimmer for the past 15 years. This Milwaukee string trimmer has as much power if not more than the gasser. Both have more than enough power to do all my trimming needs. The Milwaukee has a high and low speed setting. Tough to stay which is faster, I rarely use either at full speed. Modulating the speed is easy and works well. They both fling debris all over, shin protection and eye protection are important unless you don’t value your vision and like nicked up shins. The Milwaukee string trimmer does require both batteries to run. Battery life for basic lawn trimming is great. 20 - 30 minutes of use barely used one bar on the batteries. The Milwaukee trimmer is on the heavy side at about 17 lbs with batteries. The gas trimmer is lighter at 13 - 14 lbs. The balance of the Milwaukee trimmer is nice and with the majority of the weight at the ends it’s very stable and does not get tugged around if the string catches on to something. The weight at the ends also makes it more work to swing and move around. The harness is nice because it takes the weight off your arms but it also hinders the movement of the trimmer. You can’t turn the trimmer vertical to edge while using the harness. The length of the trimer is nice, I am 6’2” and don’t need to bend to use it. The line/string it comes with is okay, but does break or wear out a bit faster than other line/string I normally use. Once it runs out, I'll put in the thicker .105 line I normally use. Reloading the spool looks to be pretty easy. Not having to deal with gas and oil and being quieter is nice. But for most basic lawn trimming and edging this trimmer is a bit overkill. If you have the need for trimming more than just grass this is a worthy consideration. I don’t think it can take a blade like some brush cutters and my gas trimmer can. Cost is more upfront for the Milwaukee, but gas and oil and a little yearly maintenance does add up over time for gas trimmers. Provided batteries and electronics last, the total cost over a decade or so is probably pretty close. From an environmental perspective, it’s also probably a wash if you consider the everything needed make an battery power and gas powered unit and how they can be recycled when they stop working. Serviceability I would give a win to the gas unit but this will balance out as electric power equipment becomes more common.

          This Tool Is A Beast!
I haven’t owner a string trimmer in many years. My last one was a 2-stroke gas engine that was a pain to start and the exhaust fumes stunk! The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18V Brushless Cordless 17 in. Dual Battery Straight Shaft String Trimmer with (2) 8.0 Ah Batteries and Charger is a top-of-the-line beast! UNBOXING: The trimmer came double-boxed and arrived in perfect condition. All the packaging was recyclable. Good job Milwaukee. The individual pieces were separately bagged with most of the necessary tools for assembly. The instructions were clearly written and illustrated. ASSEMBLY: The handle, strap attachment point and guard required assembly. That took only a few minutes. While I was assembling the unit, I had the batteries charging and that took just about a hour for a full charge. The batteries snapped into the handle securely. MY USE: I live in a rural type of subdivision and don’t have too much trimming to do around my property. I will use the trimmer to keep weeds down in the utility easement so I can access my water meter and shutoff valve quickly in the event of an emergency. In addition, a lot of my neighbors are elderly and I will assist them in keeping their weeds trimmed. OPERATION: The Milwaukee string trimmer is heavy but it seems well balanced. The shoulder strap will take some adjustments to help the balance to minimize fatigue. The tool was loaded with trimmer line, so I installed the fully-charged batteries and I was in business. The tool has 2 power levels: Rabbit and Turtle. I used both to test. Turtle works great in fine-bladed grasses and Rabbit works better in the tough stuff. I cleared a path to the back easement in just a few minutes. The trimmer took on the heavy grass like it wasn’t there. The Rabbit mode dispensed of the toughest weeds, even last year’s dried stuff. After running the trimmer for about 20 minutes the batteries indicated about 75% remaining. THINGS I LIKED: The trimmer powered up in a second and was fairly quiet. I did not sense any undue vibration. The dual power mode will optimize run time. The straight shaft will limit wear and tear on the drive mechanism. The 18 volt batteries will allow me to purchase more Milwaukee tools without having to invest in batteries and a charger. The brushless motor, now an industry standard, delivers more power with less battery drain. The integrated electronics give the operator good performance feedback. I haven’t had to replace trimmer line, but have watched videos on the simple and quick process. The written instructions were not helpful in this regard. The 3-year warranty is huge! THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: It is heavy, but that is necessary for the performance and quality. RECOMMENDATION: Certain areas are prohibiting gas-powered outdoor equipment and this choice is about the best you can get. I would recommend this to the commercial user as well as the home owner with high demands on grass and weed trimming. This Milwaukee tool is top of the line!

Great For Large Properties, Thicker Plants and Professionals
This thing is a beast … I own 12 Acres. Every year, my property is overrun with Bittersweet, Black Raspberries, Wild Roses, Garlic Mustard and tall woody grasses. The first three have thorns and make moving through my property painful. I already own the single battery Milwaukee M18 Fuel String Trimmer (2725-20; which is now the 2825-20 [307753204]). It works great, but I am always running out of power, and after a while, it gets warm. The Dual Battery comes with two High Output XC8.0’s (I own a lot of Milwaukee batteries, but these are my first 8.0’s). They arrived with only one Bar and took an hour to fully charge. It was easy to assemble; just add the line guard (4 bolts) and handle (2 bolts). It comes with a shoulder strap, but I did not install it (I am always putting my power tools down and I find straps a hassle). Added the two batteries (it needs both to run) and took it for a spin. It works great, but the line it comes with (25’ of .08”) is designed for soft wimpy things; like grass. I removed it and replaced it with 15’ of .105 (largest size recommended). The trimmer is the same length as my old one, and both are not adjustable. The motor is a lot bigger (see comparison pic) and heavier. I tend to brace the motor on the back of my forearm. So, I did not find it too heavy. That said, it would be better (ideal?) with 2 new Forge XC6.0 batteries (326686274). Another design quirk, the bolts have different head sizes. So, they include 2 different wrenches. Bottom line … the single battery model is a better fit for a Suburban lawn, but this is great for a Professionals or larger properties. You will not regret getting it. P.S. I did not read the fine print warnings in the Manual, but knowing how batteries work, I would suggest only installing two of the exact same M18 batteries (i.e. do not use an HD12.0 with a XC8.0)

Been 4 weeks since shipped and still have not received it
For the first time ever, I'm posting a review on an item I have not received yet, in hopes to get this issue resolved. The picture shows the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 18v brushless cordless 17 in. dual battery straight shaft string trimmer with (2) 8.0 Ah batteries and charger was shipped on February 12,2024. There was no carrier or tracking number given. After a week went by, and not receiving it, I sent an email to have this looked into. I got a response back saying they have reached out to the vendor and will get back to me if they hear anything. After week 2, I followed the same procedure above. After week 3, I followed the same procedure above. At week 4, I not only followed the same procedure above, but I also sent a message within the app, to see if that might make a difference. Well, its been a month and I have yet to receive it. Perhaps by posting a review, a resolution might be found?
