More homes and businesses in the U.S. are protected by a GAF roof than by any other product. We are the leading roofing manufacturer in North America.

Nothing protects quite like a roof.

Nothing protects quite like a roof. That's why millions of Americans live, work, and play under quality products from North America's largest roofing manufacturer - GAF.

Always have a balanced ventilation system. The amount of exhaust ventilation should always be equal the amount of intake ventilation.

How much Ventilation do I need?

Include 1 sq. ft. of attic ventilation, evenly split between intake and exhaust, for every 300 sq. ft. of attic floor space.

Choosing the right attic ventilation for your home is very important. GAF offers a great selection of Master Flow and Cobra products.

What type of Ventilation do I need?

Review the ventilation options below to determine the best fit for your home application.

Available in both roof mount and gable mount, power attic vents exhaust the greatest volume of hot and/or humid air from the attic.

High efficiency Electric, Solar or Hybrid

Quickly removes large volumes of heat and moisture from your attic.

Cooler external air enters through vents lower on the eaves or soffits that “pushes” the hot/moist attic air out of the vents higher on the roof.

No electricity required

Allows excess heat and moisture to escape your attic without the need for electric hook-up.

Wind Turbines utilize the wind to pull heat and moisture from your attic and acts as a static exhaust vent when wind is still.

Wind-powered, smooth, and quiet operation

Utilizes the wind to pull heat and moisture from attic; acts as a static exhaust vent when wind is still.

Located at the lowest part of the roof, intake vents are a critical part of the attic ventilation system, allowing fresh air to flow into the attic

The most overlooked and critical part of attic ventilation

Allows cooler, fresh air to enter the attic at/near the soffits driving heat and moisture out higher exhaust vents.

Your home offers warning signs when your attic isn’t properly ventilated. You may recognize some of these signs in your own home.

5 Warning Signs

Here are some poor attic ventilation warning signs that you may recognize:

A possible cause of higher cooling costs could be insufficient attic ventilation, requiring the cooling system to run excessively.

1. Increased energy costs

Excess attic heat can cause your cooling system to work harder, raising your energy costs.

If you see that your shingles are dry or breaking, that could mean you have inadequate attic ventilation or you may need a new roof

2. Curling/cracking shingles

Inadequate ventilation can cause your roof shingles to curl and crack.

Moisture in the attic can become trapped and condense on rafters and insulation if not insulated properly. This can potentially increase energy costs

3. Roof decking moisture

Excess attic moisture can drip into attic insulation reducing effectiveness, even damaging ceilings below.

Stains or mold growth inside your home may be caused by inadequate attic ventilation. Excessive moisture in the attic allows mold and mildew to thrive

4. Attic mold/mildew

Excessive moisture can cause dangerous mold and mildew causing additional concerns.

Ice damming can cause water to enter the attic and house if you don’t have an adequate shingle underlayment or if the flashing has deteriorated.

5. Winter ice dams

Ice dams can cause expensive leaks and damage in attics, as well as living spaces.

      Answer This Question

A:  You don't want to run this in winter. It's for venting heat and humidity from the attc in summer. We turn ours off when it gets cool probably early/mid-October and don't turn it on again until probably late May in the St Louis area.

      by|Sep 12, 2023

A:  The fan circulates the moist air out, helping to prevent frost inside the attic and ice dams.

Arrived ahead of schedule, undamaged. Heavy duty construction, metal dome, uniform color and finish. When installed, asked electrician if the units were operational (purchased two). I could barely hear them running. After two weeks of use, extremely quiet operation (faint hum when running). These replaced 12 year old Broan units that were extremely loud. Very pleased with purchase. Trust this will continue into the future. Only "issue" is that the color of the dome is more "greenish" than "bronze/dark brown" in color than shown in the online image.
