Q:I have an old Makita 4 inch angle grinder. I need a wire cup wheel 4 angle grinder. It needs a 3/8 spindle that seems to have 20 DPI. Can you point me to the proper wire cup wheel either here or at another distributor? Thank you very much.

          Best grinder ever!
I have been welding for almost 8 years. This is the first grinder I got, and it's a champ! No other can compare. It's lightweight and easy to use with 1 hand, being a woman this is a major bonus. Also, the fact that you can get the 5/8 " adapter nut so you can put a 4.5" wheel on it is super convenient. Makita grinders are without a doubt the best for daily use.

They really screwed up the on-off switch compared to the previous N9514B model I had. This switch is a rocker that you "lock in" by pushing down on the top after you slid it forward. It is incredibly sensitive so that any time you grasp it near the top of the handle it will go off. Very annoying especially when you are 20' up on a ladder! The old model was a slider that locked front and back. It also had walls built up on both sides so your hand would not touch the switch when you grasped around it. I'm forced now to jam some thin cardboard under the rocker to keep it on. Once on it works just fine, a little bit heavier, 1 amp more power and all old 4" discs and my depressed rubber pad kit still fit.

Could have bought online around same price and had delivered to my door but wanted to look at it before buying. I went to H.D. and picked it up, checked it out. I have 2 of the older 4" Makita grinders (2002 & 2005). I have ran them hard many times. They had straight cut gears and over the years have really got sloppy and noisy. BUT they have never quit running. I took one apart and greased and it helped noise some but still it was wore out. I bought the new Makita and tried it out this morning. It works great and way quieter. Thank Makita for making a good 4" grinder. I have 4.5", 5", 7" grinders also but these 4" ones are light and small to work in tighter quarters. I will buy another soon.

older versions of this model did not hold up for long
I have owned 2 older versions of this same model, and either the commutator bearing froze or the armature burnt out and the arcing melts the case. And I use compressed air to clean out the dust after each use as recommended. Trouble is MAkita has the weakest 1 year warranty of the bunch, and that is about how long this model held up. Other trouble is MAkita has one of the only 3/8 " arbor grinders out there and I still have a large selection of discs and wheels to fit this size. Rock and HArd place I am between.
