This house comes equipped with a mounting base with a sleeve for setting on top of a standard 4 in. x 4 in. base. In order to attract Purple Martins, the recommended location of this house should be a combination of open fields and water. The house should be 12 ft. to 14 ft. high. Item Dimensions: 27 in. Watersedge 4-Floor-8 Room Purple Martin House
When your purple martins demand the best, settle for nothing less. The WatersEdge suite, made with aluminum, is one of the most scientifically proven houses available on the market today. The 4 Floor/8 Room 6 in. x 12" suite concept utilizes two compartments per family offering an entry room and a nesting room. This design provides greater protection from natural predators, such as owls, coons, and hawks. Martins enter through a starling resistant hole. The entry serves as a protective staging area for the young birds prior to flight. From there, they travel 90 degrees through a 2 1/4 in. opening into the nesting room, which has a nesting tray. This "Coates Original" house, designed in the early 80's, has set the standard in the purple martin house industry. This spacious house has 4 floors and 16 rooms. The package includes all cool aluminum and stainless-steel construction, reflective roof, ceiling panel for proper ventilation, porch dividers, hinged clean out doors, guardrails, top perch, door plugs and an all-aluminum base plate. The Coates Original Purple Martin Houses are constructed with cool aluminum and stainless-steel, making the houses resistant to corrosion and great for long-lasting outdoor use.
