Q:I see a lot of complaints of this tool locking up. May be due to what looks like the two jaws being geared together and a tooth bends or breaks. Has the problem been solved? I bought your 3 handle cinch tool but I really wanted this.

by|Mar 31, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, you may use stainless steel pinch clamps on both Apollo PEX-A and PEX-B pipe. If you are installing PEX-A fittings with PEX-A pipe, you will need to use PEX-A sleeves: 1 in. Tool failed to unclamp
The tool failed to release on a pipe we were burying in the ground. After 20 minutes of messing with it, we felt we had no choice but to bury the tool along with the pipe. Forget the 5 year warranty. We called Home Depot support for help. Despite the agent's best efforts, we could not find a date of purchase or a manufacturer's customer support number. Our only recourse is to write this one star review. So, Apollo get $54.95 worth of bad press. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!

            Tool won’t release
After a dozen clamps the tool would not release, like many other reviews. I never tightened past when the indicator light came on. On closer inspection the small gear inside appears to be stripped. See photo.

              Useless, do not recommend!
On the third crimp, using 1" stainless crimp ring, the tool would NOT release. Sadly, it was on a connection at the bottom of a yard hydrant and was subsequently buried by 5' of soil. What was even worse, I had to drive over 30 minutes away to purchase a replacement. If I could give this 5 negative stars, I would.

                Makes PEX products a breeze
I love this tool. I am remodeling my bathroom, and updating the plumbing to PEX. This pinch clamp worked flawlessly, and made getting to the pinch clamps easy (especially in the tight spaces for the tub plumbing). The blue LED is super bright, so when the pinch is complete you can tell instantly (even when the light is facing away from you). It also came with a spare set of batteries, really nice. I just wish that it had a carrying case or bag, but I will use one of my many old tool cases instead.

                  Great for Tight Spots
It worked great for installing a sink. Was able to get into tight spots to install 1/2 inch Pex Pipe and Crimp rings. It does require somewhat of a strong grip once get the pump-action started. The blue light comes on once the pinch clamp is secured which is a nice feature. The tool released right off the pinch clamp. I made 8 connections and did not have a problem with the tool. $50 is a great value for pex pinch clamp tool.

Locked up on me first time.
I was in a bad spot behind my furnace trying to get a pex apollo crimp ring aroud a 1 inch pecks pipe. I had a small leak from an old copper shut off valve. I thought it be an easy project to remove the corroded ball valve and replace it with four packs clamps and a sweat to pex conversion. Boy was i wrong. First of all my original pecks tool only worked up to 3/4 of an inch pex pinch rings, so I had to make a run to Home Depot at 6:30 at night. I got the one hand pinch clamp tool made by Apollo. I played with it to make sure it released as it should. The pex rings were behind my furnace. Of course it has to be a tight spot and the tool locked up on me all four tumes. The last time I was in the far corner and I had to leave the tool on the pipe. I can’t get it off and I had to take a shower because I was so dirty from working over the furnace. Don’t buy this product!!! If you do your research you’ll see that other people have complained that it locked up on them and you can’t get it off. I was rather unfortunate because it Happens after the first clamp. And thenshe sits behind my furnace still attached to the pipe.
