A:  It will act as a backflow preventer. We would recommend checking with the local AHJ to see if it would be an acceptable replacement.

Q:What is best way to prevent this Pressure Vacuum Breaker from functioning when I?m trying to winterize my irrigation system??

    Answer This Question

A:  Proper draining, insulation using heat tape and heated protective enclosures are all acceptable methods of freeze protection. When draining an assembly to prevent freezing, several important points must be remembered: 1. The assembly cannot be adequately drained through the test air compress hookup. For proper draining follow the instructions detailed in the Drain Procedure section below. 2. Drain valves must be added on the inlet and outlet sides of the assembly, below the assembly (and preferably below the freeze line if the remainder of the system is to be drained).

      Answer This Question

A:  You can replace either of the two ball valves with out affecting the operation of the PVB.

      by|Apr 16, 2024

A:  The pressure vacuum breaker is considered a backflow preventer that protects the potable water supply from potentially contaminated water. It was likely required by local code. Check requirements of local code before deciding to forgo the valve.
