How do I rent a tool or a truck?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what trucks or tools you can rent. If you want to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a tool or truck. You may also check out our truck rental or tool rental pages to see if what you need is carried at your local store. For more information on renting tools, read the Tool Rental FAQs, which includes equipment terms and conditions.
How long can I rent tools?
You can rent a tool for four hours or more. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY jobs may only require a short rental period, and we can accommodate large projects as well. You've got options to rent tools by the day, month, or week, too. If you need it longer than anticipated, call the Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When can I bring the tools back?
You're welcome to return the tools early if you finish your project sooner than predicted, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off any grime and dust from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a few hours?
Rent a pickup truck, van, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes could be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on how long your project is. Don't forget to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you must return it to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Make sure to read the contract and terms and conditions before you choose a van.
Should I refill the rental truck before I bring it back?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you return it. Note the amount of gas in the tank when you receive the truck, and fill it with enough gas to match that level. When you don't refill the vehicle, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements.
