I have set up several Wink enabled devices and this was the one I was concerned about. Surprisingly these were easy to set up and by far the furthest from my Wink Hub 2. I placed two of these on the outside of the come to control Christmas lighting and they work great. Only the top plug is Wink controlled and the bottom is always on which is great. Easy to install as well, just kill the breaker before you change it out and you are good to go.

Great add to my smart home
So glad i got this item. I have a Smart home that is powered by SmartThings by Samsung. I installed this myself and took a total of 10 mins. Of course shut off the breaker before you install. I took a picture of my old outlet and just mirrored the installation. Comes with 3 covers for the outlet itself- White - Ivory - and Almond. Does not come with the 3 different cover plates FYI. Once installed this paired very easy to my smarthome. I used to have a smart outlet box adapter. Now this looks a lot better with no bulky box.

Simple Product with Easy Install
Pretty impressed with this outlet. Installation was simple and only required a ground, neutral & line wiring. With my house being relatively newer this was just a simple replacement of the old outlet. It honestly took less than 3 minutes. It comes with extra colored covers in case your outlets are ivory/almond, too. It's a pretty low-profile smart product and that's what I like about it. It's connected to our Wink smart hub and can be controlled by our iphones, ipads, and the Wink Relay we have in the dining room. Connecting to the Wink hub was pretty easy because there is a button on the outlet. That button helped with pairing AND it also controls the top plug. So, if I want to trigger the top plug (the same as I would on my iphone), I can just hit the button as an alternative. It's actually pretty handy because sometimes it's just easier to hit the button rather than find my phone. I installed the outlet in my home office with a lamp connected to the "smart" receptacle. Actually turning the lamp on/off with my phone is not that neat. What *is* neat is setting up a schedule in Wink to turn the lights (including the others I have scattered around the house) at a given time each day or put them on a vacation schedule. So far this item is working great and I'm quite pleased.

Fully Compatible on Zwave - Deep Outlet Depth Poses Issue In Older Walls
I had been interested in expanding the functionality of my home security system to control the outlets, light switches and fans in my house using Z-wave technology which my Honeywell Tuxedo Touch has a controller for. I was initially unsure whether the outlet would enroll and respond correctly on my Z-wave controller since not all Z-wave products are fully compatible with all of the Z-wave controllers on the market (Honeywell, Wink, Vera, etc). I opened up the packaging which included the outlet, two replacement outlet face covers in alternate colors matching the optional face plates. Also included were detailed instructions in clear English with graphical representations and identifications for the various parts of the outlet. I should state here at the beginning of this review that it is highly advisable to READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION. I started by turning on my floor light plugged into the outlet to be replaced by the Z-wave outlet and went to my circuit breaker panel and flipped individual breakers checking the floor lamp until I saw it go off. At this point, I removed the outlet faceplate and backed the outlet mounting screws completely out of the wall electrical box mounting points. Then I carefully pulled the outlet out of the box making sure not to strain the electrical wires still attached to the outlet. I then followed the instructions on connecting the Hot, Neutral and Ground wires to the new outlet. This is where I ran into a slight issue when I discovered that the new outlet's ground wire screw had slack and would be unable to secure the ground wire. Fortunately, this did not prevent me from powering the outlet for enrollment and powering of electrical devices plugged into the outlet. I then wrapped electrical tape several times around the outlet making sure to completely cover the electrical contacts. Then I replaced the larger wing nut style wire nut with smaller ones that still fit the wires inside the wire nuts. I then began positioning the wires and wire nuts as far back in the electrical box as far as they would go and then began pushing the new outlet into the box. During this, I discovered that the conduit locking nut protruded too far forward for the outlet to mount flush to the wall resulting in a 1/4" gap between the wall and outer facing of the outlet. For the time being though, this will suffice as all electrical connections are concealed in the electrical box. I secured the new outlet with the supplied screws and returned power on the circuit panel to the outlet. I then went to my Z-wave controller, selected Automation, factory reset the new outlet by holding down the LED until it turned Amber, enrolled the outlet on the controller (Enrolling adds a Z-wave device to the available controllable devices on a controller). I then selected the new device on the controller to identify it as a "Light" instead of the default "Switch". I was then able to turn the light on and off from my phone or my Z-wave controller in less than 1 second. At this point, I did some further configuration on my controller to enable the floor lamp to turn on the light for 5 minutes when a specific security motion sensor faults (A fault occurs when a sensor is "open" or detects a non-secure event like heat signature or glass breaking sound). I also set another automation routine for the floor lamp to turn on when the front door sensor is faulted and another for the lamp to turn on for 1 minute when the "Night Stay" arming command is activated. Overall, I am very pleased with this Z-wave outlet and plan to purchase them for the other outlets in the house I would like to be controlled to reduce vampire drain. The only thing I would like to see added to the options for this outlet is a metal faceplate in the various colors since the plastic ones tend to break. The manufacturer does state their faceplates are unbreakable, but I find this hard to believe. I received one of these Z-wave outlets for free to keep in exchange for my unbiased review through the Home Depot Seeds program. Quality
The Zwave plug is nice in design well built and labeled by Leviton. This is a 15 amp hard wire plug receptical that need to be installed in a electrical box. if you don't have the skills To do electrical work hire an electrician to get it installed. The plug is built well with good wire connectors as you would expect with the Leviton Brand. It is a little deep for installing so make sure you have the room in the box . In the package are complete instructions along with different white shade face plates . This plug needs other products to get the benefit of the Z wave capabilities. Set up was easy once installed, but I do have smart home experience with several hub and controller MFG. Yes you will need s bridge or hub to get this plug to function with remote or programmed ZWave capabilities. The Wink hub is a good system sold by Home Depot if you don't have much experience with the automation industry. It also has a good price point and allows you to add many other products. Having purchased several different plugs , switches I've come to the conclusion that the Leviton brand has worked the best for me. The other major brand that HD sells has given me nothing but problem leading me to change brands. Since the Leviton brand has been making electrical plugs , switches for a long time . I don't believe they are going anywhere like some of the new companies getting into this industry. Getting support down the road could be an issue with some of the new companies as I've seen with other Home Automation products.

Bring switched control to any outlet
Connects easily, responds quickly and maintains its connection flawlessly. The outlet lets you pair one plug to a Z-wave switch to control it remotely while the other plug is always on. Combined with a Leviton Z-wave switch was able to tie in accent lights without a massive rewiring project. Now with a flick of a switch both my overhead and extra lights turn on. It’s seamless integration for less than bringing in an electrician. By supporting scenes with my hub I can add extra features. If I open my front door at night, it turns on the light by the door automatically for 15 minutes. At night the lights turn on when I enter a room and turn off 10 minutes after people leave. When I use a “good night” scene all my lights turn off, my doors lock and another Leviton outlet powering my garage door opener turns off. The sky is really the limit to what you can do. Pros: 1.) Easy pairing (tested with wink, smartthings [v2] and openhab [aeon zwave stick]) 2.) Customizable settings 3.) FAST responses 4.) Looks incredible 5.) Still lets me turn the light on manually, just turn off the controlled light then turn it back on. The outlet senses this and the light comes on without needing a switch. Cons: 1.) Tight fit into gang box. It'll fit in a shallow box but a deep box is better

Great product with a seamless 'built-'in' look...
This is a great option if you have a lamp you want to control with a nice built in look compared to using a external module at the same price. Leviton products work great with Wink and pairing process took about one minute. Shows up in Wink as a simple on/off light bulb and is fully schedulable in Wink app. Only one outlet is controllable the other works just like a normal outlet. Installation was easy just removed old outlet and ground, neutral and hot were all in the same locations as old outlet. Size is significantly deeper than a standard outlet so make sure you have room in your electrical box for it. Package comes with faces to change outlet to light almond or ivory to match your décor.

Leviton is my Z-wave receptacle of choice. Unlike most others, its controlled outlet is on the top, instead of the bottom. (Some of my surge protectors make this a necessity because of how they were made.) I also like the fact that there isn't an ugly label visible from across the room, but is there (when up close) to make sure you know which is controlled. Others have mentioned that there's no load measuring, and other Z-wave receptacles are cheaper. But for me, it's a perfect mix of aesthetics and function.

Very useful and easy to use
An outlet is an outlet for the most part, but when paired with the right appliance or lighting source, this becomes a much more powerful tool. It's great knowing that I can turn lights on or off without having to move from where I am. Or can turn on the lights at home for when I get home. Home automation is certainly the future and this is a integral part of that. Just wish I could replace all my outlets.

Hide some lighting automation in a wall outlet
This is the first in wall Z-wave receptacle I’ve installed. It was easy to install, works great with my SmartThings hub, and I’ve found it to be very reliable. These receptacles REQUIRE a neutral wire to operate properly and I strongly encourage anyone who isn’t comfortable with household wiring to consult an electrician. The box includes three color choices for the receptacle (white, light almond, ivory) to help match the wall plate with your decor. You’ll need to provide the matching wall plate. It also comes with complete instructions, including wiring diagrams, for adding the receptacle to existing house wiring. Only one of the two outlets on this receptacle is “controllable”. The other one is a standard powered outlet and can be used normally. The receptacle has an LED location indicator (nightlight) that indicates on/off status. There’s also a “programming button” that lets you manually turn the controllable outlet on and off. This is usually only necessary when first paring it with your home automation system. I replaced an outlet in my home’s entryway and used this to automate decorative lighting that sits on a table there. It was perfect for controlling lighting in some Halloween decorations, and I look forward to using it to automate a schedule for some of our Christmas decorations. I can imagine using it all year long to control the accent lighting for our entryway.

        Zwave didn't work
I purchased 3 outlets and connected installed each connecting to a separate, closer, wink hub. After they were added to the hub, they immediately showed a status of offline. Once they were offline and not working they were difficult to uninstall. I ended up returning all three and bought GE smart outlets from another store. Those outlets added on the first try and have never had a problem.

Remote control is the wave of the future
Smart homes are coming and this device brings them home (pardon the pun). The unit fits right into an existing outlet box, and allows appliances (not just lights) to be controlled through the remote system in the house. I use it to control a dehumidifier, and make sure that it is one when I need it. It is transparent to the normal operation of the unit.

Works great with the Wink controller. Installed and configured it in 10 minutes.
I replaced an existing receptacle in my basement with this and configured it into my Wink controller. The receptacle split, meaning one outlet is always on and one is switched. I wanted this to be able to control my hot water heater recirculator to correspond with our early morning and late evening schedules. While the recirculator has manual timer functionality it doesn’t support the concepts of daylight savings or seasonal temperature changes. By using a receptacle like this I can better control it through the application. Installation was, of course, simple. It has a single hot and common contact (most receptacles have two), so you can’t chain it as easily. Adding into the Wink application was also trivial (and fun). Once installed I can either schedule the receptacle, manually turn it on and off or even use triggers to do so. Z-Wave devices actually work together to extend the range. This receptacle is about 30 feet and one floor away from the Wink controller, yet quickly and easily connected. Now that it’s on the network I could add additional devices even farther away as this one will relay messages to and from. Cool, huh?

          Great Product
This Z Wave Enabled 15 amp scene capable receptacle with led locator is a great product to have if you need to turn on an outlet controlled device when your not at home. The instructions were easy to understand and follow. I did have to do some research on which brand of Hub to buy to make this product work. It turns out that I was able to also get the hub from Home Depot.

          Works Great
Easy to install and works great. Zwave makes it super compatible with most other home automation tools. It easily synced up with my smart things hub. These outlets provide good value and seem to be high quality. I also like the rectangular look for the outlets which is definitely more modern. I really like being able to control everything in my home with just a swipe from my phone.

          More uses than you think
Ok so you are thinking this is just an outlet that you and turn on and off via a phone. Yes it is but it can also do so much more with a couple of additions. One you will need anyway, a z-wave compatible hub (I have a Wink and Smartthings and it works fine with both of them, it can only be pair with one of them at a time). With a motion sensor (z-wave of course) it can turn the outlet on and off when it sense motion. You can also have the outlet turn on and off on a schedule. I have used these to turn on and off holiday decorations (xmas, halloween, etc). There are a lot of ways that it can used to make life a little easier. I also use it to chlorinate my pool. I have it turn a pump that pumps liquid chlorine into my pool when my pools filtration pump is running. With this I can easily change the amount of chlorine going into the pool from my cell phone. I no longer have to walk over to the pool and put it in everyday. I only have the refill a container every other week. These outlets also work as repeaters so you can get a better range of the z-wave signal. Install is easy, up until you are trying to stuff it and the wiring in the wall box. This is a large outlet. If you have small metal boxes, as I have, I normally have to switch them out to the largest I can find. yeah it makes changing an outlet an hour job instead of a 10 minute one. But I feel better knowing that the wires are not jammed in the box. Set up and connection to Wink and Smartthing hubs is simple and straightforward. I generally use theses only when there is not a light switch available or when adding one is a challenge. Normally I would used a z-wave light switch to control an outlet. It works out easier sometimes to have a switch to flip them to use a smartphone all the time.

Works Great with a SmartThings hub and Amazon Echo
I have put this in with several other devices configured to an Samsung Smarthings hub and Amazon Echo/Alexa to make our home voice controlled. I wrote a more detailed review of my overall installation related to a Leviton 15 AMP Appliance module, so in this review for this device I will say it was discovered and easy to configure. After I sorted out some other issues not related to this device it works well ! We love saying "Alexa, turn on the xyz" and have it go on I also like the fact you can group devices so you can say something like "Alexa, turn on security" and ALL of your lights in the group go on (like your whole house and outdoor lights" The modern age is here with Z-Wave technology and Amazon Echo..

Z-Wave enabled Devices are Excellent for Home Automation
This Leviton Z-Wave enabled 15 Amp receptacle is an excellent choice for home or business automation. Z-Wave enabled devices allow the user flexibility when setting-up an automated Z-Wave network of devices. With this receptacle you can automate a coffee maker, or other appliance in your home. I'm using this receptacle on an outdoor plug which will allow me to control holiday lighting from my home automation application.

A miracle worker for remodeling projects -- no rewiring needed!
Do you have an older home and need to add a light or switch -- but you don't want to tear up your walls to connect everything? Are you a contractor / electrician -- and do your customers want to "add another light" or "add a switch for those lights, on this wall"? Or did you build a new home and find, "Oooops! I need to add another fixture over here, and another switch over there!" If so, Z-Wave receptacles and switches are a miracle. We use them on all of our remodeling projects to add new lights and switches, without a bunch of costly and time consuming wiring changes. Z-Wave sends on/off commands via RF signals, which are automatically repeated by each Z-Wave device -- to avoid dead spots. No special wiring is required. You can also setup groups of lights controlled by one or more Z-Wave switches, e.g. to quickly add another switch for a bank of floodlights over a deck or yard. Custom "hard" wiring is no longer needed. Read up on Z-Wave technology -- a definite winner, worth every penny. The 'LED locator' on this product also makes it easier to identify and configure. I hope this is helpful. Mark

          Easy install & pairing
This installs just like a standard outlet, though it requires a bit more clearance due to its size. Note that only the top receptacle can be controlled, the bottom is always on. This was very easy to pair, as I've experienced with other Z-Wave enabled devices from this manufacturer, just put your hub or remote into pairing mode and then hit the pairing button on the outlet. My only complaint, and this is the case with all the Z-Wave capable items I've used from this company, is that the instructions don't include this simple step of how to pair it. It's simple enough once you know one of the buttons is called the 'program button', but you'd think they could mention this.

I'm very happy with this product. it was very easy to install . (easier than a typical receptacle ). It connected to my wink hub with ease. with this receptacle I have my plasma TV, monster surge receiver and surround receiver all plugged into it. I can now talk to my amazon echo and tell it to turn on and off with voice command. so far great product !

Does not work on load less than or equal to 11 Watts
Purchased this outlet at Home Depot and installed it in my living room such that my Wink Hub could control a LED lamp. The installation was quick and easy. I had no issues connecting the outlet to my Wink Hub either. I did have issues controlling my LED lamp after the installation was completed. What I found was that the control port of the outlet would not turn on my 11 Watt LED lamp. After a lot of trial and error I found that the control outlet needed more than 11 Watts in order to work correctly. I called Leviton and they confirmed that the control outlet needs more than a 11 Watt load in order to work. It would have been nice if this information was placed on the product packaging. Beware of this outlet if you are looking to control a LED light. As LEDs become more efficient the wattage of the loads is reduced. You may have problems controlling LED lights with this outlet as time goes on.
