Lots of power - only thing I would like to see changed would be the front bar. The bar is solid and when you hit bumps the mower tends to lift. Otherwise, it's a great mower.

I bought this late in the season so I've only used it a few times now but it has drastically cut my mowing time. The pumps appear to set differently so to go straight you hold one a little less forward than the other.

Wish it would cut a little better!
I have owned this mower for 7 years. Here is what I need in a mower: Like many people, I am a very busy person. I need a mower that can keep up with me. Not sure the actual speed of this mower in MPH but whatever it is, I expect that no matter the speed, it can cut the grass at that speed. If your grass is say 6” long and you need it to be three it will handle that. Much more than that plan on doing it twice for all of the strands that it simply misses and you have to run it over a 2nd or 3rd time. It’s almost as if where the blades converge it just misses. I’ll include a pic. Tried mowing about as slow as it can get...same thing. Brand new recycle kit blades too. Only mechanical problem was about a year after owning, one of the coils went out. Dealer needed 3 weeks minimum until they would be able to look at it. Imagine how tall my grass would be then. Wound up just buying the coil (2) out of pocket and fixing myself. Would be nice if customers could be reimbursed.

When cutting longer grass (6 inches) tall, you may want to cute the lawn twice to ensure an acceptable quality of cut. To improve cut quality, we recommend using a slower speed and over lapping each swath. In addition to these tips, we always recommend making sure your mower blades are sharp. We have a fantastic help center video that demonstrates "How to Sharpen Blades for a TimeCutter" at https://www.toro.com/en/customer-support/help-center-riders#bladesharpen. If these tips do not provide a better quality of cut, we recommend contacting an authorized service mechanic at https://www.toro.com/dealer for inspection. Rest assured, your mower is backed by a three-year Toro warranty to protect you against manufacturing defects. Have questions? Our customer care team is available at 888-384-9939 (US) or 800-544-5364 (CA).

I have used this twice so far and after getting used to the steering it is a breeze to use. It cuts well but I noticed that the blades are NOT sharp at all! I liked this mower because it has a heavier frame than most and the ones that have the equivalent cost more. There are always trade-offs with everything and you just have to know what you want.

This is the lower end of the zero turn mowers. The particular mower that we recieved was the floor model; not by choice. So it had broken and dirty components. It also had loose fasteners on the cleaning valve, handles, and deck. It's decent if this is your budget. If you can spend a few more dollars and have more than an acre to mow, I recommend getting something more robust.

I really LOVE this mower. I've owned the mower for about 4 weeks and only used it twice at this point but at this time I have not found much that I dislike about it.First and foremost, I have to say that I love the high contoured seat. You can sit on this mower for hours without any discomfort. This is a very comfortable riding mower. The zero turn mower is quick, nimble and with it's powerful 24.5 HP engine, you can use the machine to tow accessories behind. Cutting Quality: No hesitation on cutting thick Bermuda and the cut is even and good looking. Easy to adjust to height of the cut as well. Lever is to the right of the rider and has 7 positions ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 inches. 50" deck size is perfect for my 2.27 acre yard. Power: 24.5 HP Toro Commercial Engine V-Twin Engine - Can be a bit loud than what I'm accustomed too but it does push out plenty of power and speed. Maintenance: I have not performed any maintenance at this time. Cost: $3K - Pretty expensive but well worth the price considering it has a 50" deck, 24.5 Commercial Engine, Hydrostatic transmission. Pros: Great Cut Motor Performance Easy to operate Cons: Loud motor

Out of stock at HD was the model 74731C which shows in spec. page as commercial, so I ordered online and excited for the deliverer found out I was shipped a 74731, which was in stock at my local HD that I could have picked up. (Toro should not spec. something being different)!! I have used 3 times and love how easy it is to mow with over my old ride on. Cut mowing time in half. Plenty of power and mows slops with no problem as a matter of fact even better than my old mower. Seat is very comphy but is sweaty may have to find a cover for that problem (Con). Frame is very ridged the front will ride over a hole and never fall into it which is a (pro). The steering is very responsive and easy to learn another (pro). Be advised no hour meter so you must purchase one (Con) all service is done by hour of use. I always clean under mower deck but seen reviews that said is a bad idea due to water in shaft bearings so have never used the hose hook up. Grass does seem to stick more under deck than my old mower, probably should have opt for the fab. deck. Water will pool on top of deck when cleaning and is hard to get off(Con). Due to the cons was my 4 star rating. Over all it is a good mower for the price.

If you want a mower that is fast this is it, however I feel like I had better cutting power with an old beat up tractor mower I had. I tried to mower a small section of a 2 1/2 acre pasture and the mower just doesn't cut it! The commercial grade was supposed to be better than the standard, but I had better results with a standard mower! In my opinion toro sounds a lot like John Deere big name but unless you buy straight from them you get knock off parts! Not to mention the first time purchasing online and the original mower I chose was out of stock but did not show that when I purchased so they cancelled my order than I didn't even get notified of the issue. So I was limited on choices. I just home that it will last me a while!

Thank you for your feedback! Here are some tips that may help to obtain the best quality of cut: Make sure the blade is sharp (for best results, replace or sharpen yearly or when needed). - Operate the machine at full throttle. - Cut only 1/3 of the grass blade at a time.- Mow only dry grass or leaves. - Verify using correct blade for type of mowing (i.e. recycler blades for recycling , High Sail blade for side discharge.) Since I have previously used tractors there is a slight learning curve to operate a zero turn. It is a great time saver and looks good too. Controls are straight forward and easy to make changes. The twin cylinder engine has plenty of power, and the towing feature is a plus. All in all it was a great choice for me and probably would be for others.

So far so good, 3.6 acres with a fair amount of trees. Mower runs smooth in open field. We have only had the mower for a little over a month and have cut the grass three times and I have been impressed with the outcome. We are still under the 5 hour mark, so I have not changed the oil yet. Pros: I like the washout ports and the ease of use of the controls. Cons: I do wish that Toro would have included the hourmeter. Only other con I have, was not the mower but the delivery. Delivery was to be between 5 - 5:30, I arrived at 4:45 to see my mower sitting in the driveway. No phone call was given to state they were early so I missed the instructions on how to use the mower - luckily it is easy to use.

Upgrade was well worth the time and money!
Been mowing with an old 2007 Timecutter Z5000 (now 9 years old). Upgraded to the SS5425, what a world of difference. Bigger, faster, cuts better! Ordered online and was delivered within promised time. So far an excellent machine.

        Excellent mower
Great mower! This is my first Zero Turn. Quality build and easy to use. I had a little problem with the original one off the floor. It would not start when we got it home. My local Home Depot management stepped up. After returning to the store and speaking to the manager. Home Depot had another on in stock and arranged for the DOA unit to be swapped out with another one they had in stock.. Reminded me of the Home Depot of years ago. Great customer service!!! Thank you.

I love Toro. Good mowing at a reasonable price.
I had a smaller Toro zero turn for several years and never had even one problem with it. I only got this new 50 inch one because of the size. I have 3 acres of lots of trees, flower beds and slopes. Also I am a 70 year old woman and this machine is easy to operate, easy to get on and off. Since my yard is big and rough in places I especially love the pedal operated lift that allows me to raise the deck and go over roots and such . I sold the smaller mower to my brother and it is still going.

          ZTR Newbie
We recently purchased this mower and so far so good. It was delivered this morning. This is my first experience with a ZTR mower and getting used to the way it steers was probably very comical to watch. But, once I got the hang of it, I was able to mow my 1 acre yard that has multiple trees. Huge improvement over the old riding mower we had.

The deck fell off after four hours of use on a smooth lawn.
Although the unit performed well it is impossible to rate it well because the deck fell off of the unit after four hours of mowing on a smooth lawn. The deck support rod broke and the mower fell off completely and I drove away from it. The part fractured and looked as though it might have been cracked when manufactured. This also caused damage to a deck hanger bracket. I am keeping the machine and redesigning the support rod so it doesn't happen again, but I would be wary of buying one.

            Great machine for the price.
I have only owned this mower for a few months now and it has been a great machine so far. However it does not feature a 23 horse Kohler, it is in fact a 24 horse Kohler engine. The engine is smooth running as well as the transmissions. I did however have a small problem with the paint coming off of one of my drive wheels after I washed it for the first time. The dealer ordered me a new wheel and tire for it. So it seems like the warranty is good for this product. The seat switch is very sensitive, so when you adjust yourself in the seat while riding, it will cut the engine out momentarily. It does slip on steep grades, but you would expect that on this machine as it does have only 18" wheels and it is lighter than a professional grade mower. It is a perfect machine for cutting large yards in a short amount of time. I would recommend adding the arm rests as this does make the ride more comfortable while mowing. The hour meter is also a great add on. I would recommend a toro to everyone.

            Nice Machine
PROs; This unit is smooth, powerful and easy to operate. Comfortable seating and easy controls make it a joy to drive. rear engine means no exaust in your face. CONs; Be careful backing up, it is rear heavy. Hard to clean under the deck if you don't have a lift, the deck flush system only works so-so. Could use a bit more forward speed in Hi gear. Rated at 7-8 MPH but could stand 10-12 MPH.

The Toro SS5000 Timecutter has an excellent cut, just like the pros but one third the cost. I now look forward to cutting the yard each week. No matter how fast or slow you cut It all looks uniform and very professional. If I ever do buy another mower, it will only be a Toro Zero Turn, I am sold for Life! I just bought this mower and have only mowed dead grass so far but it preformed great.
I research several zero turn mowers and this mower had one of the highest ratings. I wanted one with the Kawasaki engine. Kawasaki is suppose to be top of the line engines.

I bought this about 3 years ago and it's been great. I have over 5 acres of cut grass and the toro timecutter has served me well. Starts every time and does the job quickly and with great gas mileage too. I love this tractor. I use it to pull things around on the property too. Thanks Toro and thanks home depot

                    Super Toro product!
Product is easy to access all control functions using hands/arms only; no need for foot operation pedals which for any person with a limited leg function is an absolute! Maintenance; oil & filter, air filter etc are all easyily accessed. Very comfortable and actually fun to operate. Fuel consumption seems reasonable and deck cleaning is really easy and thurough. Mine is 2 yrs of trouble free use. Lawn is large w/turf and native growth; quick one lever pull to change application need. Each mow is 1 1/2 hr. use. Smart investment.

                    Mower blade issues.
I've had the T/C 5000 for almost 4 years now. My problem are the blades. I have 3 acres, 2.5 level with no trees. After about three mow's, the blades wear down. It's easy to tell as I begin to get a swath of partially cut lawn about 4 to 6 inches wide and a few inches high that appears directly under the seat. I then have to make another pass of about 20+ inches to make the lawn look good. Does anyone else have this issue? These blades aren't cheap!

                      Good with few problems
No problems until my 7th year around 80 hours, had to replace all the spindles/bearings and the starter went out last week. Other than that it’s been great.

                        The Electric brake
The Electric brake DOES NOT DISANGAGES; That means I cant push or pull the Mower when it is off! I followed the info of page 44 from the manual, but nothing happens, the mower cant be pulled or pushed anyway! The manual does not tell you how to troubleshoot and find the solution. Surprised that i have that problem. I don't know where to call or what to do. On average the mower SS5000 works.

5 years and still running great!
I had to replace a couple of push rids but as soon as the new ones were put in it started right up ! I recommend keeping a set of push rods around as a just in case and read up how to put them in and can have it running again shortly after putting them in. It is an awsome machine and would buy another one in a heartbeat. You take care of it...the machine will take care of you! The only thing wrong with it is that greese zirk fittings should have been put on the spindles!
