I honestly can't believe Thermocast is still making this sink - and that Home Depot is selling it to their customers! Within a couple of months, our black sink was scarred, faded and cracked - and we were actually careful with it. We bought a second one to replace it but we can't do anything with it because of our granite countertops. No one is willing to risk cracking the granite in order to replace it. It is not the cost of the sink that is the issue, it is the cost of the granite, quartz, etc. countertops.

    Horrible Sink!
We installed this sink about 1 year ago. Although while we don't handle it with "kit gloves", we are reasonably careful with it and have cleaned and maintained it per the instructions. It now looks terrible. It's scratched and faded on the bottom and now it has developed small cracks and crazing in the sink. Don't buy this sink if it's going to get any use at all. I'm dreading the thought of having to pull it out and replace it after just one year.

    Disappointed With This Sink
When I first got this sink, I was very excited about having a black acrylic sink but, my excitement quickly faded after a few weeks of having it. This sink scratches very easily and leaves visible water spots. I have to wipe the sink with paper towels every time I run the water to avoid the water spots. I read the reviews on this sink before I purchased it. But, because I really wanted it, I made sure I was very careful with how I treated it. It didn't matter that I was über careful with this sink. It still scratched. I've had this sink for less than a year and it looks like I've had it for 5 years. I think it's safe to say I will be replacing this sink pretty soon.

Black is beautiful. Durability...We shall see.
Well... it's black. Enough said. It's stately. Elegant. The sink's design is beautiful. The question is, how long will it remain this way? The packaging states "scratch resistant and chip resistant". What I can tell you is that when the brand new sink returned from the granite cutter after being fitted, it was scratched and chipped badly. Home Depot exchanged it for a brand new one. Thank you, Home Depot. You've made a loyal customer today. With that said, the sink is beautiful out of the box. Probably the best it will ever look. The sink is medium weight but sturdy. I'd go with this long before choosing the tin can stainless steel sinks in the same price range. And the 40/60 design is great. The deep side is DEEP and spacious! Very useful. Very nice. The installation was very easy. No brackets. Just granite calk on the underside edge. However, I weighted the sink down with large pots of water to help create a tighter seal around the edges. It doesn't move. It's secure. Over all, it's a good value. I found no other sink in it's price range with as much design and style. I give the quality a 3.5 star rating because the sink is sturdy. The sidewalls are thick and solid. Not flimsy like the tin can stainless steel sinks in this price range. But I can’t give it a 4 or 5 star rating. Here’s why: #1 There is a standard. This sink does not follow the standard. After the incident with the granite contractor, I decided to change sinks to a granite composite or a cast iron. Too late! NO OTHER sink (in stock at Home Depot or Lowes, mind you) with a 33 x 22 dimension has the same cut out. All the other sinks seem to be a 21 or 22" front to back and 32 side to side. Not this sink...it's 19.5 x 31.325. So the granite is cut, installed and it's too late to change. I had no choice but to stay with the Thermocast sink — because there was no time to wait for a special order sink. #2 There is a hollow sound when you place dishes in the sink. It’s very clunky sounding. Weird. But, I’ve replaced a cast iron sink, so it goes without saying. #3 The sink comes in many colors. Okay. But Thermocast uses white composite material as the base component. When it does scratch, it really shows up. For that reason, we are already shopping around for a future replacement, even though Thermocast has a lifetime unlimited warranty. So they stand behind the product. Time will tell. For now, I'm happy with the end result. And the lifetime unlimited warranty makes me feel better.

      THERMOCAST REPLACED MINE
Bought this sink in 2006, it's 9 yrs old, Emailed THERMOCAST explaining the situation, they asked for pics, they are sending me out a new one. Actually they're sending me a newer model. Composite granite, I guess we shall see. So yes, as long as they honor the lifetime warranty, I will continue to purchase their sinks. They look awesome!! Hopefully they've updated the product and won't scratch, peel as bad.

      Kitchen
My kitchen remodel is now a total disaster within 24 hours of installing this sink. This sink was so beautiful in the store and the black really complemented my color scheme. After the install I thought I would clean off the plumbers prints 1/23/2015. With the greatest intent to protect the integrity of the finish, I purchased Ivory liquid to wash the sink. Well after a good rinse and sponge dry the finish is gone. The more I wiped the worst it became. It looks horrible now. Contacted the manufacturer with no luck!! Lifetime customer of Home Depot and love to shop there!! However, this is the worst purchase ever. Please remove this item from your store!! Buyer Beware!!

I was so excited when we put this in, now three months later it is coming back out!
At first this sink seemed so perfect. I was so pleased - but it has been three months now and it is coming back out. I am very careful and keep vinyl mats down and it still looks 20 years old. It is so soft that it takes almost nothing to scratch it. I am horribly disappointed and more than a bit irritated to have to take it clear back out. We tried car wax and it helped but still doesn't look great. Not Home Depot standards!

      I Love My Beautiful Sink
I have this sink in the almond color and had it installed in 2008. I have not had any problem with scratching or chipping as many other users have. I DID mess up the bottom of my right-side bowl; but, it was my own bad choice. I was making tamales and set the steaming hot stock pot directly into my sink to add more water to the pot. Of course, that left a large rough brown ring the size of the stock pot and marred my lovely sink. I did that dastardly deed in 2014. Until then my sink was beautifully smooth and shiny. I use Scrubbing Bubbles to clean my sink and SoftScrub when I have aluminum cookie sheet marks, which come off easily with one of those Scrum Mommy sponges. About every six months, I fill both bowls with water and add some Clorox bleach and let it set overnight. The following morning, my sink looks as good as new. All those icky stains are gone. I use a lot of cast iron pots and pans when I cook and have not experienced any problems with my sink. I've even had visitors comment on my beautiful sink, and I absolutely adore the deeper, larger right bowl for washing large pots, pans, and cookie sheets. Since the sink is almost 14 years old, and I have to look at that awful burned ring every day, I am about to replace the sink with the exact same model and am so grateful that the style is still being made.

I bought this sink for the design which matched the arch on our cupboards. It looked great at first. I used sink guards/mats with air gap underneath to keep them from scratching, but they do scratch. I even use non abrasive cleaner! The good thing is the company did replace the sink for free. But you will have the added expense of installation if you don't do it yourself. I am on my second sink and sadly it is doing the same thing. I really love the design~just wish it was more durable.

Due to the rough finish on the bottom of this sink, it was extremely difficult to seal the drains. It took trial and error using two different sets of drains to stop the leaks. Plumbers pipe dope did not work, so I had to use a special 3M windshield sealer (black) around the strainer/drain.

I've used this sink for 4 years. The finish of this material still looks great when wet, but when the bowls are dry, the finish appears dull and reveals tiny scratches. The manufacturer says you can buff it back to the high gloss luster with a liquid-based car polish, but you can't; I've even tried an electric buffer with no effect! I am fairly careful when placing and moving items around in the sink but the scratches appeared soon after installation. I never used abrasive cleansers on it. I chose not to use protective mats, racks, or dishpan with the sink because I find those items hard to work around and they always need to be cleaned. Had I protected the sink, it would probably still look great, but a lot of effort would have gone in to "protecting" it.
