perfect, as advertised
I bought this tankless hot water heater because it was time to stop heating fifty gallons of water 24/7 when I really only need it twice a day. I did my homework and decided the Tempra 24 was most suited to my home (one adult, two teenage daughters, two bathrooms). Installation was quite simple; I did my own plumbing and electrical installation following the instructions. Within twenty minutes of finishing the wiring, I had bled the lines and my 15 year old daughter was in the shower—what better test? She emerged twenty minutes later declaring it an unqualified success, and she didn't even know I had washed the dishes while she was in the shower. It's been a month now, and the heater has met every challenge. Twenty years ago I installed a tankless hot water heater in a new home I built, and it was satisfactory, but had issues. There is simply no comparison—in both manufacturing and performance, this is light years ahead. I set the temperature at 116 degrees and it maintains it perfectly all the time. My main concern was warm water at the sink—since the sink is served by smaller lines, would I draw enough flow to activate the heater? Turns out I did, no worries at all. I've already urged everyone I know to go tankless when it's time to replace their heater—or sooner. And I will be pleased to recommend Stiebel.

Met all of my expectations
I had done extensive research before purchasing this product, and i am pleased with the results. i purchased this hot water heater 3 months ago, replacing my old tank water heater. I live in New England and this heater gets the water very hot reasonably fast. A couple of things future buyers should know before purchasing this item: It does require a 100 AMP service to run, and i paid $150.00 for the cables to run from my breaker box to the heater. You will also most likely have to pay a electrician to do the wiring, but it only takes about 40 minutes to get it hooked up. The plumbing is self explanatory and easy for someone with general knowledge of the trade. I only have 1 bathroom and my kitchen sink that need hot water (i wash my clothes with cold water) and this water heater easily does the trick, the one issue i had was that the volume of water going into my bathtub with the valve fully open was to much to heat, so if i want to get the tub full of warm water i can only open the shower valve half way. For the price of the product with the 10 year warranty it is a great deal. I saved $35 off my first months electric bill.

Worked ok for 2 years but just stopped working. No red light when water is running, so likely the flow sensor went bad. Disappointing. Never was really happy with the flow when using one shower but it worked until now.

Item received in s timely manner as quoted, even early. The heater is doing great and was a simple install for my son, an electrician, since it was the same model as my previous heater.

    So far, so good
Installation could not have been easier. I am a weekend handyman with medium skills. I was lucky enough to be able to pull the required wires and add the appropriate circuit breakers. Using stainless steel mesh connector hoses made the water connections a breeze. The unit sits below 2 full baths and is used exclusively for them. We have a large whirlpool tub with a higher than normal water draw. This is the only piece that requires a little additional effort to master the flow. Normal shower, regular bathtub, and lavatories work flawlessly. I replaced an old 80 gallon electric heater. Still hoping to see a nice reduction in cost of heating and maintaining that level of hot water.

The water temperature is extremely difficult to control. It starts out scalding hot and then runs lukewarm after you turn it down - and remains lukewarm for the entirety of the shower. It takes quite a long time for the water to heat up - I have to run the shower for almost 2 minutes before it warms up. I really miss my traditional water heater and normal showers. I thought we would save money with this "green" option, but I feel like I waste more water than I did before, just waiting for the temp to heat up. When i wash my hands in the sink, I end up washing with ice cold water because I can't run the sink for a long period of time simply to wash my hands on warm. I do not own a large house - I live in a 1500 sq ft condo. It makes no sense that the water takes so long to heat up and the lack of control over temp variation is frustrating. I have had this product for approximately four weeks now. Overall, this product has been a huge disappointment for me.

      NOT FOR FLORIDA WATER
It was not what we hoped for. No significant savings on electric but it is compact. For my wife and I the was temperature was OK. 2 showers work at the same time. After 5 years in service one element breaker popped and kept popping. Called Steibel and they said it was my bad water that clogged the element. (City of Daytona Beach water, No problem with the old tank heater that was still going after 20 years) Paid $195 for a new element and replaced it myself. 3 months later the second element went out and paid $195.00 again. I hope the elements last another 3-4 years so I can replace it with a gas on demand heater. More people need to respond to this company so that they can design something works for 10+ years without failures.

Had to return the product due to an amperage insufficient power box. Could not afford to upgrade the box.

      unknown
I bought the product by the sizing chart, and the charts are based on strict water conservation methods. These water conservation methods are not used by my state, which means the product that i bought for a 2 bathroom home will not heat the water. Plus the power consumption is high. In short, High power bill, cold water.

      Very happy with this product
The tankless water heater works as advertised. I replaced a very large tank type to save space. No lack of hot water, actually very hot! Watch your temp setting. We have a lag of 10-15 seconds in the morning shower before hot water arrives, not much more than the tank type. No cold water pulse during delivery as some have claimed. This heater uses a lot of energy when operating, but our first months bill was lower than other comparable months. I am very pleased with the unit so far, installed myself with no issues, and I hate plumbing! Thanks, Home Depot for carrying this premium product as well as all needed connections. Now, if I just hadn't purchased it the same week as the security breach.......

      Great product, tough install
this product requires two 60amp circuts to be run with two sets of #6 wire to be run. If you do this yourself materials will cost you around $200.00 for a 25 foot run and two 240volt, 60 amp breakers. For an electrician to install the electricial and the water lines run would be close to $700.00 not including product of course. When installed correctly this product works great in 2 bath home with ample water supply.

      So far so good
Had this professionally installed with some new construction about 3 weeks ago and it is working flawlessly. We did upgrade to a 200 amp service for this to work. It does draw some power. When we turn on the hot water, we do get a very minor flick of the lighting. It supplies very hot water that does not run out. It is very easy to change the settings. It has been too early to tell about any energy savings on the electric bill. It does take a few seconds for the water to come out hot for some outlets located about 20-25 feet away.Overall very pleased. The only negative is we may take longer showers raising the water bill!

Works as adverized. I never run out of hot water
I had a plumber install the unit in about 2 hours. (plumbing and electrical). Convenience of the thermostat on outside of unit very helpful as depending on season we need to lower temperature as needed.

On my sixth one in six years
Built a new home in 2007 in 2008 it failed to shut off melted water hose and flooded the house . They replace it free . 2009 stopped heating , sent another free , again failed . So here it is 2013 my fifth on has broke. They took water samples , I have city water not well water . They said water quality was the problem. SO DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE PERFECT WATER, or it will fail. Now warranty is gone they willnot get me to buy this product again :(

Awesome Product, Even Better Customer Support
I accidentally broke mine, and even though what I did wasn't covered by warranty Stiebel Eltron replace my unit for free! I highly recommend this model if you are on a budget, and the Tempra 24 Plus if you can afford the extra $100. These units work perfect, are solidly constructed, and mine saves me close to 20% on my electric bill every month!

Great unit but you can only use one source at a time.
Installed unit yesterday. Very easy to install (I am an electrician). However if you use more than one source at a time the water temp gets way too low (70 drgrees). My input temp is 49 degrees right now (FEB) I need the space in my kitchen for a remodel and will miss my old water tank. The good thing is I can shower forever without running out of water. The unit comes with 3/4" fittings but the tubing inside is only 3/8" so dont be fooled into thinking you will get great water flow. All in all it is a good unit and I will install a point of use under the kitchen sink to supply the sink and dishwasher from the cold feed.

Easy to operate, just watch the water flow and you''ll have endless hot water!
Really good product. My Wife and I installed this water heater by ourselves, but we love doing house projects. One thing is we had to replace our main breaker box from 100amp to a 200amp for a $500 since only and electrician should do that, because you are dealing with the power line from the outside. Another note we had to call around a lot of electricians since most of them wanted to do the entire job for no less than $1500!!! Also the wires needed for the heater are expensive too. we spent an additional $200 just on the wires, they are thick and hard to work with, so if you have patient and not scared to work with panel breaker and wires it should be fine. We also did the piping for the heater and were easy to do. No leaks so far. The heater requires a water softener. After everything was completed, and after many counts to 10 to relax during installation, the product works great, we love the fact of not heating water that we don’t use. Two showers can be going at the same time with no problems of course minding the water flow! And that is easy to master. So depending of your do it yourself‘s skill be ready to pay an additional $600 to $1000 in installation possibly more. Love the products and takes no space, unlike our old ugly heater.

          Nice water heater
I bought this water heater when the fitting on my old tank started leaking. Decided on this one just because i dont like running out of hot water. Any energy and water savings are just a plus. Before you buy make sure you have: room enough for 2 double pole 60 amp breakers, a 200 amp whole house service is required. Chances are you dont have 2 6-3 wires ran for your current water heater. So you might look and see how hard it would be to run the required wire. If you have or can get these things this water heater is pretty awesome. it was easy enough for me to install new breakers and run the wire. Mounting the actual heater is a cinch. Plumbing is super easy. As soon as i had it plumbed in i ran the water to get the air out. I Hooked the electric up and flipped the breakers set the temp on the heater went to the sink and was too hot to touch. I can run both showers, shower and dishwasher ect. without problem. I havent had it long enough to really say much about the quality though it does seem to be well built and really seems like a pretty simple concept. Overall i am pretty pleased with it.
