Had to drill a hole through a metal cabinet to run new conduit on short notice, used these step drill bits and ruined the entire set just trying to make one small 3/4 hole. Bits got hot and dulled very quickly and I had to keep switching bits just to finish the hole I needed to get the job done. Had to throw away the set when done, since they were now dull and unusable.

First time using a bit from this set, the tip broke off. Not off to a good start. Was pretty thin sheet metal -- not sure why it broke. I would expect more from a kit this expensive.

I needed to make 5/8” hole on 2” square tubing with 1/8” wall. Instead of buying an individual bit dir $20, i thiught thr stepping bit would add a variety of options for certain tasks. I was initially apprehensive about this bits ability to cut well using a hand drill. Thiugh i have only made 10 holes so far, i am extremely impressed with the speed, quality, and control of the cut. Highly recommend for 1/8” material and thinner.

Impressive performance with older cordless drill. Regardless of step drill size aggressive cutting in plastics and sheet metal was accomplished quickly with 14 volt drill. Used as designed drills were excellent. Were able to make acceptable holes in wood for unexpected needs. Quickly became part of tools brought to most DIY tasks. Often performing well in odd ways better than regular drills making them very useful. The #4 step drill seemed to be the most used. Overall the six bit set in its compact case proved to be great to have for the intended use as well a variety of hole enlarging and shaping tasks that come up on many tasks. Only negative issue experienced after weeks of use is pinching fingers on back of case when closing. Case has mount for accessories. A well designed feature for professionals this Milwaukee set was designed for. Great product that does all it claims to do with ease. Not one drill showed any sign of wear despite the use and abuse given. Highly recommend.

If you don't yet have a set of step bits, this is a really solid kit. I've always found step drills to be the ideal way to create holes (or expand holes) in sheet metal. I got to the point where having one or two in my tool set wasn't quite enough so this fits the bill perfectly. They're sharp, give a ton of flexibility in terms of hole size. Also personally I feel like Milwaukee always nails it with the carry case. I know it's simple, but it makes all the difference in the world to keep things organized. Just be aware these holes are not going to be precision, the nature of the bit and your steady hand will likely make less that perfect hole. Just fine if you're making way for conduit fittings or enlarging punch outs, but not for fine woodworking. If you're looking to add more to your collection or this is your first set, you can't go wrong here.

I have been using the Milwaukee step bits for a while now. They are well made and sturdy step drill bits. I have been using the 1/2 and 3/4 size to build brackets that have been welded together, during welding some of the steel becomes a bit hard and with a little cutting fluid these bits go right through the 1/8th inch materiel like butter. I must have over 200 holes each with the same bit with no issues at all. Still very sharp and doing its job. No complaints from me at all. Love the storage case too!

Excellent set of bits! These do exactly what they are advertised to do and they do it very well. The point on the end keeps your bit where you want it without the need to pre-drill a pilot hole or even center punch where you want it. The bit cuts very fast with the double blade and have seemed to hold up well over my testing. The markings on the bits are easy to read and visible when drilling due to the silver marks on the bits, if you know the mark you have to go to ahead of time you will know when to stop drilling! The case is rugged and easy to use. Overall its a great set of bits that will cover all your step bit needs!

the best step bits i have used. highly visible markings make it easy to see and use without checking, time saver in my opinion. my use is mainly in plastics and aluminum for installation of switches and lamps. and they so far have shown very little wear. the bits and the case is just what you expect from a Milwaukee tool/accessory. no doubt i will purchase more in the future and be recommending them as well.

At the time I received this set of step drill bits, I did not have a specific project in mind, just knew that it was something I have needed from time to time. The next day I had to install a dusk-to-dawn light. Working from scaffolding and ladders and drilling various size holes in both steel and wood, two of these bits were put to work. I was almost amazed at the performance. The package states 2X faster. This is an understatement. It also states they will last 4X longer. If they do hold up much longer than ordinary, then the price will certainly be worth it.

Another hit by one of the industry leaders.Milwaukee tools. The three (3) step bit set is made in America and will drill or enlarge any hole from 1/8" all the way to 7/8". The set comes with three separate step bits. The number one is sized for 1/8" to 1/2". The number two is sized from 3/16" to 1/2" and the number three is sized from 3/16" to 7/8". All with convenient markings so your sure what size hole you have and where to stop. The kit comes with a carrying case so you do not loose any step bits in the bottom of you tool bag. The case also has a 1/4" threaded mount for add and accessory. I use step bits everyday and Milwaukee is the best hands down. Highly recommended.

To me, Milwaukee means quality. I frequently drill in medium to light metal as well as wood and needed a set of step drill bits and this set is nice. The increments on each bit is clearly marked, the storage case is nice and the three bits provide a variety of sizes. I prefer the 3-flat secure grip shank which reduces slippage in my drill press. I like these.

There are a lot of options for step drill bits on the market today. While even the cheap ones work and hold up fairly well, there is a noticeable difference between these pro level / premium quality bits and the budget varieties. First off, they are more precise. They will give you an exact whole, whereas the others tend to have a wider tolerance. Second, they cut cleaner and faster with a finer edge, and will usually hold their edge longer. Thus there is a difference between cost and value. These cost more, but the value is comparable or even exceeds that of budget bits it you use them often and require optimal precision. Third, their markings are much more durable and legible. You’ll still be able to read your sizes after multiple uses. I personally prefer this set as it has a wide range of sizes including both #1 and #12 bits, and two very common and useful bits in between in #4 and #7. Like all Milwaukee bits, they come in a sturdy case. You insert them on an angle into a recess that holds the drill bit tip and snap them into place. To remove, lift the opposite end up to the same angle and pull out. This design helps keep them from being dropped when you’re taking them out and putting them back with one hand. Case has your standard belt clip / bolt attachment receiver on the back. As a perk, for those who appreciate domestic manufacturing, they are made in USA.

American Made Harden Steel 1/4-20 thread mount. each bit is very well marked- step drill bit set . the #1 bit is stepped in 32 nd of a inch . the tip of the bit is a starter drill bit .and markings start at 9/32 to 1/2 . the #. 2 bit marked 1/4 to 7/16 in 1/8 inch jumps in size . the 3 bit in this set is marked #4 it marking start at 5/16th to 7/8 in 1/8 inch jumps in hole cutting size. all are a well designed and size marked case .

Milwaukee Black Oxide Step Drill Bit Set (4-Piece) is an excellent quality set of drills primarily for sheet metal and other materials. Step drills come as a single drill bit with varying larger sized ridges or steps to widen the hole and having an overall conical shape. This means that one bit can cut several different size holes. The markings on this set are better than others I've seen so are easier to read when working in determining the exact hole size. A trick I use is to tape around the size I want before drilling. The bit fits in a ½-inch drill chuck and can cut access holes in sheet metal work. The problem is this work is tough on them and they dull faster. The Milwaukee set promises to hold up four times longer. I like that they have what Milwaukee is calling a rapid strike tip which eliminates first drilling a pilot hole for them to catch before starting to working. There are a lot of inexpensive step bits around and this is not one of them, its from Milwaukee which is known for its high quality.

I had one of this type of bit, for years. it was time for a new one. drill bits are serious tool-talk to me. as soon as i saw the set, i knew it was the one. i have a full assortment of drill bit types, a sharp bit is essential. i even have a full set of split point titanium nitrite bits in a presentation case, i never use them. this is the best set of STEP drill bits i have ever seen. well made, laser etched sizes, any measurement STEP and knife sharp. these are great. i have included a picture of all my bits.

I purchased these not very long ago to make life easier at work. Step bits in the past have been a great investment and I had never had a problem using them before. This set , so far, has been average. I hadn't had a chance to use it yet, but the time came and I was excited to finally get to use the new tools that I had bought. Unfortunately, my #2 bit snagged and broke within the first 10 seconds of use. I was disappointed to say the least. For the money I spent, I would have thought it would've lasted me longer than one use. I continued with the larger step bit and it worked like a charm. Maybe I got a weak or defective part? I'm not sure. Overall, I would recommend these because since then I have used them a few times and they seem to work great. The #2 step bit didn't get another chance to redeem itself, so I cannot vouch for that one. When they work, they work great. I have sent Milwaukee an e-mail asking about possible replacement. I have not heard anything back yet but it seems that they do not warranty their tools in any manner other than factory defects..per their warranty outlines that I have found on the internet. I have not contacted home depot at this time either. We use Milwaukee around the shop and I have had nothing bad to say up until now.

These bits worked better than I had anticipated. I used them for plastic and it was smooth as silk.

Drill bits worked well and multi pack was a good value.

Cuts through steel like cutting through warm butter. Precise, clean cuts, easy to control width desired as really no extreme pressure required to start or finish the cut. Little pricey, but worth it if your looking for precision.

I was going to get the step bit by itself and saw the kit. You get the great bit, and some extra drill bits and a case for less than if you purchased the two themselves. The regular drill bits are nothing to get excited about but the step bits are really nice.

Vey good set. Cheaper to buy in a set rather than individual parts. Would buy again.

You can't beat the Home Depot price on these step bits. Easy online ordering with free delivery. I've had several sets of these sets and use them for everything mostly out of convenience, they are consumables and do wear out but last a long time and hold up to steel, stainless and any wood or plastic.

Bought it for just one bit but got the set because of the price. Got the job done that I bought it to do.
