Not squirrel proof
No matter how you set this up the squirrels still seem to clean in out in 2 days. Even with the hot pepper seed it still doesn’t phase them. I don’t recommend this.

We're sorry to hear about this! Try and hang your feeder at least twelve feet from any tree trunk or limb and at least four feet up from the ground. This will prevent squirrels from either jumping from the tree or up from the ground onto the feeder. To help stop squirrels from stealing your seed, be sure to hang your feeder at least 18 inches away from any reach points. If you continue to be unhappy with your purchase, you may contact the original retailer for assistance with a refund.
Does not stop Squirrels. Up for one day and the Squirrels have already defeated it.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We're sorry to hear that this happened to your feeder. When hanging a feeder, we recommend that it is 6 feet from the ground and 10-20 feet from launching points such as branches, roofs, and fences. Our feeders have a 30 day return period. We recommend reaching out to your local retailer for additional assistance with a return.

    Squirrels chewing
Squirrels have been chewing the plastic bar. It was hanging by a thread. Wrapped a piece of Gorilla Tape around the top to ward off chewing. Hope to make them last the season.

Great feeder to feed birds and squirrels!
Birds love it, unfortunately so do squirrels, took them about 5 days to figure out how to defeat the system, waste of $35 if you buy it because you think it will stop squirrels.

Mourning doves were too heavy to feed from it, but the squirrels knocked it down and both fed from what spilled out. Gonna try cajun seeds next.

We are sorry to hear this! We understand that when you purchased your feeder it was not intended to be shared with the neighborhood squirrels. These persistent critters will go to great lengths to steal a taste of that tantalizing birdseed. Keep in mind squirrels can JUMP! Ideal placement would be at least 12 feet away from any type of launch pad (tree, fence…) and at least 4 feet off the ground. The feeder is covered under a 30 day return policy and a 1 year replacement policy. Please contact us at 855-737-5973 with any questions.
          Came unglued
This looked nice and attracted lots of birds. The shield protected the feed from getting wet from snow/rain. The plastic body is THIN and the bottom half fell off after 6 weeks of use, and we DON'T have squirrels here ! WE are gluing it together and hoping for the best! I bought it more than 90 days ago, and therefore I can't get a refund from Home Depot.

            Not squirrel proof!
It only took a week for the squirrels to figure out how to stick their foot in one slot to hold it open while eating! It doesn’t “slam shut” as the ad says... disappointing.

Not Squirrel Proof. destroyed in 28 days
I purchased this feeder 28 days ago. It took the birds a couple weeks to discover it, as did the squirrels who shortly thereafter defeated it in three different ways:1. They hit it or swing it and food drops to the ground.2. As other reviewers mentioned, uneven weight distribution on the feed platform can cause it to bind, leaving the feed ports open for a squirrel to pig out even if the spring is adjusted fairly light.3. The squirrel that ruined it in under a month hung from the attachment wire by it's back feet and proceeded to gnaw through the ends of the cheap, green plastic bar that the wire support loop attaches to. Once the ends were gone the feeder falls to the ground for a grand squirrel buffet and requires replacement of the plastic bar with a metal one before its usable.I have a plan to fix the feeder as well as solutions to further thwart the furry squirrel beasts. For issue 1. I'm going to devise some shock absorption method so when they hit/swing the feeder it will move slowly and not drop as much food. For issues 2 and 3 I'm getting a rigid metal 18" squirrel baffle / shield with metal attachment clips and will replace the cheap green plastic bar with an aluminum or steel one. So this $30 squirrel proof feeder will end up costing me a bunch of time and $40 additional to actually make it squirrel proof.

Squirrel defeated and destroyed within less than 1 week
Squirrels seemed to struggle but still attempted daily to feed unsuccessfully. They appear to have found the weakness of this device. The entire feeder is held by a metal loop that goes through a plastic rod at the top of the feeder. The squirrels just chewed the plastic rod until the feeder fell to the ground. Very disappointed in our first feeder and I can not recommend this feeder or brand as a result. Spent 30 dollars for less than one week of feeding.

I think I've tried everything, Right now, this is working. I think you have to hang it such that the only way the squirrels can get on it is for them to have to try to crawl down from the top of it (not jump from a nearby branch or deck). I used a baffle to make it even more difficult. The fact that it is a smooth plastic design, the squirrels can not hang upside down and scoop the seed out, which is what they have done on my metal cage type feeders. It is a little tight for the cardinals to eat but they manage to eat all they want as do the smaller birds. It's a reasonable price too,

                    Squirrel Slammer Bird Feeder
This is a great feeder if you live in the City like I do and have lots of Squirrels near by . It has a base that when the Squirrel jumps up on it , it automatically closes and does not allow the squirrel to feed on the seed. When you feed as many birds as we do , it helps to keep the squirrels out of the feeder. I will be looking to get another one of these for our feeding station . I like some of the features as well. it has two adjustable screws on the bottom that allow you to adjust the weight needed to close the feeder so if you have a problem with crows like we do you can adjust it so you can shut them out as well. I like the clear plastic cylinder as well so you can see how much seed is left in the feeder and know when it needs refilling . Though at our house it is a daily chore when it is cold outside as once the know the food is there the line up is never ending for the feeders despite having several to choose from.

Nice design intended for large seed such as sunflower seeds and sunflower kernels
This is a nice design but with large holes for seed, so only suitable for sunflower seed and sunflower kernels. It is a simple and yet elegant design with a hood and spring loaded bottom portion that if weight is put on will pull down and cover up the holes where the seed is accessed. Easy to fill with a swing open cover, and easy to hang by its large wire hanger.

                    Finally, a true squirrel deterrent!
Ah! Finally, a bird feeder that my squirrels truly can't figure out! In fact, even if they did, the bottom is weighted, so if they do grab on to the ledge, it pulls down and shuts the hole where the seeds are. You can adjust the level of sensitivity, so if you want large birds to be deterred too, you just adjust it and make it more sensitive so only small, light birds can land on it and eat. The quality and material are solid and well made. This is a genius product, and I haven't seen one squirrel figure it out (and we have some pretty smart squirrels!). I would definitely recommend this!

well built and is actually keeping the squirrels at bay
I was a bit skeptical about anything like this being able to stop squirrels but I have been pleasantly surprised. I also expected it to be flimsy in construction but it is pretty solid. I have not seen any issues with the cover not sliding freely as one user had. As a matter of fact it slides so freely I was concerned that birds sitting on it might be enough to close it. However that has not turned out to be the case. I've had this out for a week now and I have not seen a squirrel beat it yet and it is not for lack of trying. I have 4 or 5 regular squirrel visitors/thieves. I do have it hanging on a 7.5 ft 1/8th in steel cable that goes to a high branch and has the feeder positioned where they cannot just leap on it. The only way to it is down the long cable. But I had another feeder (the other one in the pictures) on that same cable and they managed to gain purchase on it just fine. I thought the cable had them stymied on that one but they worked it out after just 2 or 3 days. I think this one is just more difficult and I have yet to catch one on it. I would see them hanging on my others in every imaginable way. The squirrels do still sit on the ground under it and get what the birds knock to the ground. There's a fair amount of that but it does not compare to the squirrels emptying the big feeder onto the ground in one day like they always do. I don't see it as excessive so far. At least a big bag of feed will last me longer now and the birds are getting more of it. The squirrels still get a share off the ground but at least that is more limited. It's very easy to refill and I am filling it about 2 or 3 times a week so far. It holds maybe 1/4th what my traditional previous feeder held which was just over a gallon. Here's hoping the squirrels never figure it out. If they do maybe I'll grease that steel cable.

                    Looks to be excellent feeder
I replaced my favorite metal bird feeder damaged by squirrels (pic.1) with this one. This new feeder offers great advantage: the metal base slides down upon squirrel weight and feeding ports get closed and stay closed until the animal leaves. (pic. 5) The feeder measures approx 19” tall (including the metal sliding base) + hanger. Tube for seeds is approx 3” dia. and has thick walls. Birds and feeding ports are protected from top by attached round clear shield (pic. 4&5). This feeder accommodates about 3.5 lbs of seeds. It's easy to fill up: the green cover slides up and dn on strong wire hangers. Hangers w/hook on the end are attached to round metal stick with holes and can be rotated around this stick as this is going thru cylinder with seeds (pic.6). The feeder is strong and very well built. It hangs outside few days now. Birds started visiting feeder right the way. I saw feeding small birds, but also blue jays. Squirrels did not figure it yet.

I purchased this bird feeder to feed wild birds in the yard and replace an older feeder I had. I filled the feeder and realized the feed just fell out of the bottom of the feeder with nothing to stop the seeds! I placed the feeder in a paper bag and continued filling the feeder until it was full and carried it to the back yard, still in the paper bag. I hung it in the tree where my prior feeder was placed. As the birds came to eat out of the feeder holes, the seeds fell out on the ground and the larger birds and squirrels quickly began feeding. By the end of the second day the entire feeder was completely empty and the ground below was covered with wasted seed. I am not at all happy with this purchase. It did not meet my expections. In fact, I am insulted that the feeder is even offered as a feeder that keeps larger birds and squirrels from eating from it; it doesn't. Thank you for asking.

Mostly good until the squirrels figured out that the plastic cross-pin though the top of the cylinder supports the entire feeder from the hanger. Then they simply gnawed the ends off the plastic pin and it fell to the ground. We got about a month’s use out of it.

Unfortunately, the FIRST DAY I bought and hung this up, a squirrel managed to rip the bottom half of this feeder off, and it dropped to the ground, cracked, and birdseed went everywhere! Definitely not squirrel resistant! Cannot recommend.

Squirrels tore it down within 2 weeks of purchase
The 1st week was great. After that, squirrels were constantly attacking it and at end of the 2nd week I woke up one morning to find it sitting on the ground in broken pieces. They would shake the entire feeder to get the seed to drop out hanging upside down. Squirrels are amazing acrobats and this is a great concept but the reality of squirrel ingenuity and agility prevailed in the end.
