Cheap Materials of Construction
The units are very cheaply made and no matter what the manufacturer's may say, I am afraid to tighten down my hose on this unit because the parts are so fragile. It is a great concept and should work in theory, but parts like the sprinkler head is mainly cheap plastic, including the threaded connections. The housing is not water tight and the electronic components will eventually fail after getting wet. Isn't this made for the outdoors? I hope I can return this and get my money back.

Excellent for two months
Just go buy the more expensive one. This worked perfectly for two months. Then only intermittently would open the water valve. It normally makes and audible click when the valve opens. After two months it only "clicked" about every tenth time, otherwise it made a weird ping noise and the water valve would not open. I was happy until it died. Home Depot returned my money, now I will order the more expensive Contech and see if it better quality.

Excellent, Effective, Great Price
Keeps the feral cats out my yard in a humane way and several neighbors now own one, too.

Leaks! (and didn't repel "our" raccoons)
Leaks profusely (at the spray nozzle). Set it up in hopes of keeping pesky "pond wading" raccoons away from our fish pond. Was only initially effective: the tenacious critters soon habituated to the spray and began to basically ignore it--even as it hit them full blast!

It does not work
Sensor is triggered by cars and strollers across the street but not by dogs and cats in my yard. Back to the store for a refund.

Poor so far - initial attempt
Followed the instructions, which are at a "minimum" level in terms of diagrams (save the box!). No leaks. Sprayer worked once on the expected "full blast" spray. First time. Adjusted arc following instructions to slightly smaller arc. Since then, detection continues to work well, but spray is very low pressure - it's like it's tinkling on itself. Think something probably broke already somehow. Operated it for a grand total of 5 minutes. Extremely disappointed, especially for the price. Will try again from scratch tomorrow - if no go, returning it. So far, I have to rate this extremly poor (if I could give it a zero I would).

Great.
I have four of these "scarecrows" (actually Spray Away Repellants) to keep deer and rabbits out of my gardens. They work great, although the bunnies can sometimes sneak under the radar. That would be my fault in not adjusting them better, though.

Spray Away Repellant
Poor quality item makes it difficult to use. There are only a few bucks used to manufacture this item and a few cents more on materials and design would make a terrific product. For the price of this unit, it could only be classified as junk. Difficult to keep connections tight even when following assembly directions. The sensor looks down and the sprayer shoots up. If you walk around 15 feet away from sensor nothing will happen. If you activate the sensor inside 10 feet, say like a cat, the spray will shoot overhead and spray everything 15 to 30 feet distant. The spray distance adjust is a joke, all it does is cause more side spray. The stake to position the unit is too small, after a few cycles the vibration will loosen the stake and the unit will tilt and or rotate so you will be spraying toward a different location than intended. I changed the hose washers, dug the soil so the stake and garden hose connections are underground to hold the unit in position. Also, if you have foliage within the sensor area and have breezes or wind, expect the sensor setting to need lots of adjustment or relocate the unit. The unit potential is good, figuring out how to find it is the problem.

Response from THD CustomerServiceAug 26, 2011
Hi There, I apologize that you had a poor experience with this product. I have reached out to the manufacturer for more information and below is their response to you: Thank you for taking the time to submit an online review for the Havahart® Spray Away – Motion Detector Sprinkler Animal Repellent (model #5265). Your experience as you describe is unfortunate. In order to position your Havahart® Spray Away to suit your animal control needs often all is needed is to test and adjust the sensitive settings on your unit. The coverage area and size of the animal you wish to repel will be factors in making your sensitivity determination. For complete details on how Havahart® Spray Away – Motion Detector Sprinkler Animal Repellent works along with instructions on setting and testing the sensitivity of the unit please visit: http://www.havahart.com/resource/uploads/havahart-spray-away---motion-activated-water-repellent-instructions.pdf Other tips for this product include: • If sensitivity begins decreasing during your set-up process, simply turn the knob to zero for 2 seconds and back on again. • This will disable the "auto adjusting" circuitry for an additional 5 minutes. • Make small changes in sensitivity so you do not over-correct. • If your water pressure is low, effectiveness is increased if you reduce the sprinkler arc to cover a smaller area. Aside from these tips we want to be sure you have a working product. We at Havahart stand behind our products, covering them 100% in regards to manufacturing defects and workmanship. . We would like the opportunity to work with you directly regarding this matter. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team so we can make this right!
