Used on my Patio and on slabs by Patio and Pool . Make sure you get the appropriate roller for this. After that, it goes on easily. I used it last year and it went on easily with one coat. Reapplied this year just to make sure it was fully saturated. Mixture is very thick but really does the job. Just buy extra because it goes on very thick. Great product!

Great Product if directions are followed - use the adhesive
Im reading the reviews about the paint not lasting and peeling but this product is the best Ive ever used, if you follow the very specific directions. Those that have negative reviews clearly arent reading the directions or watching the “How To” videos. The wood needs to be cleaned and prepared before putting the prodict on. It will peel if you are putting on top of another stain or coatings. For most of us, this is very time-consuming and a pain in the butt. My strong recommendation is to purchase the adhesive product that they have. I cleaned my deck with a power washer and deck brush but I did not strip the deck (light ckeaning) so it was very easy. Once it was dry, I applied the adhesive product to the wood and then applied this product over top of it. The adhesive product is very easy to roll on and when you put this product on top of it, it applies very easily. Literally, all I do now each year is a light cleaning with the power washer and deck brush and will apply the product on the deck floor boards. Our deck has never looked better and I haven’t had to replace any wood or floorboards.

Horrible! Peels & Once You Put it Down, You are Stuck With It!
We live in Colorado and have an uncovered deck. The previous homeowner had applied this junk and now every year it peels and we have to "patch" it as best we can. Once it's down, there really isn't any good way to remove it. It's horrible. It has not stood up to snow, dry climate, sun or hail (all of which we have on our deck). Photos below are a small area of it peeling and a larger area that peeled this year that I just re-coated. you can see how awful the "Patched" area looks. Ugh!

4X Redwood Deck Cover - AMAZIMG!
I painted an old wooden swing that had been outside in AZ for 20 years. It looks terrific now! The paint is very thick, but it is worth the time it takes to spread it on! Check out the photos of my swing before and after, it's amazing!

    Bad
Less than one year, big patches coming off and worse the checking /splitting is re emerging, the main reason I got it! For the price and amoount you need very much a waste. And the Redwood color is fiercely hot in even a New England sun! Can't imagine Texas or Fl.

Yikes, that's not the intent, Tom! To ensure proper adhesion and durability of Rust-Oleum Restore 4X Deck Coat, it essential that the surface is clean and properly prepped. We recommend starting with Rust-Oleum Restore Deck Start Primer, which can be topcoated after one hour. You will also want to ensure that enough product is being used on the surface. Each gallon has a recommended coverage of 80 square feet with the required 2 coats.

The Rustoleum Restore 4x is an excellent product which I used two years ago for my deck, steps, etc. This time I ordered one gallon for some touch-up. It was delivered without notice and left near my side door. I arrived home to find it leaking from the can through the box. I had a huge clean up.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Gary. Rust-Oleum Restore 4X Deck Coat is designed to be 4 times thicker than ordinary paint. We recommend to apply 4X when air and surface temperatures
are between 50-90°F. In between pouring the material into the paint tray and application from the paint tray, we do recommend sealing the container to ensure the coating doesn't dry. Especially in hot temperatures. Rustoleum

I applied the product in the fall, spent over a week in prep time, drying, and application. It looked fantastic for a few months. Once the Wisconsin Winter thaw happened it peeled and cracked in multiple spots. I tried working with their customer support to at least mitigate the financial hardship of having to go through all of the labor and application again, they were very inflexible and provided no help. Use a different product.

Have had it on my deck for a winter now and no problems at all, I did do the wood cleaning procedure and the sanding of the surface, then two coats. Waiting to see what it looks like next year.

As noted, preparation is key to this product. 3 years ago (2014) I took the time to totally re-do my larger deck. I looked into many products and specific how-to videos and this product and the videos were the best. I followed the directions and have not had any problems since. I power washed the deck and cleaned it. The product does note that you can't just put this down over other stains because it won't adhere and will peel, as some negative reviews have said. Now each year I do very little maintenance and found the Deck Primer product...it is wonderful! I put that down each year and then put a coat of the 4x Redwood over top and my deck is always the talk of the neighborhood. Take the time upfront and it will be easy to maintain.

Looked great for about one year, after that, it began coming off in chunks. Very disappointing. I will probably let it continue to come off on its own, since it will be a mess trying to completely remove it.

            Saved My Deck
The trick to using this product is to first use the restore deck start wood primer. The 4x deck coat seems to need to have this to get proper adhesion. I used it to restore a wood deck that was a complete disaster. I power washed, but did not bother to sand. Two years (with snow) later, the deck still looks great. Only problem I had was that the 4x was very hard to spread. It is more like spreading glue than paint.

              I love this product
Not sure why previous review was so bad. I did my deck over 3 years ago. It may need a slight touch up, but by no means is my deck peeling. I have a high traffic area and it still looks good. I came online to see if I can get a lighter color. I was shocked at the last review. Maybe they didn't do the roller right. I actually did it by brush, just because I am more comfortable using a brush.

                HORRIBLE
We originally placed this on our brand new deck, and then had to re do it every year. It just keeps peeling off and looks terrible. Now, I just have to find a way to sand it all down and remove it - then re stain and protect it properly. Don't buy it.....its a waste.

Do not use! Worst product ever made!
We put this on our deck 2 years ago. Last year, it started coming off in sheets and left the deck half covered. We tried to remove the rest, but it was near impossible. If all of it had adhered, that would be a positive thing.... We are now having our entire deck rebuilt because of this product.

I did my deck last summer followed directions and one year later it is peeling away. Would not purchase this again, expensive and not worth the time it took.

                Waste of Time
I purchased this to paint my front porch and after one winter, the paint has peeled away from the deck. Had read other reviews that said the same thing - it looked good initially but for this price, I am not repainting it year after year when it peels off!
