Tech tip
Pretty easy install. Just FYI do not purchase night light unless you have optional multi control. Otherwise just wire nut red wire. Which will not be used..

Works perfect. I had an older hunter (pictured) 80 CFM that wouldn't pull out the moisture. This one does even with a 4 inch exhaust. Old was roughly 9 in so if you have old, you must cut about 2 in. Also I had a joist to mount it to. If you don't have one, you can screw a 2x4 into an existing to build it out. 1st I wired the unit up with an old cord since I needed the light & fan to work off a single switch. I then dropped the unit in from the attic. Notice they have little feet so when the feet hit the drywall, it's the perfect depth. I then traced to box, taped a piece of cardboard below the hole saw debris would fall into the bathroom. After cutting the opening I attached the 4 in exhaust, screwed & taped to the adapter so it wouldn't come off, then wired it up. I then tested it before final installation. I think the 4 in works perfectly if mounted to a joist eliminating vibration but 6 in would be ideal. We used to have 1/2 the wall coated with condensation along with the mirrors. No more. It pull the steam out pretty quick, though you might see some initially until it can work. The worst part for me was the wiring. To wire the fan AND light to a single switch, I had to hook the blue white WHITE wire to white, and the blue white BLUE to black, then ground wire. See pics. Again, test it before mounting & save a headache. The light is super bright which we love. I am extremely happy. Little work but worth it. You can see I had to move a good bit of insulation, which you might not have to. And I say again. If you have to use the 4 in adapter, I would drill 2 holes, screw the exhaust into the adapter & tape so it can't come off and leak. If it comes off, ALL the water will dump into your attic. Not worth the risk.

this is the most powerful exhaust fan ive ever owned, so much so i bought one for each bathroom. but beside the power it is also the quietest exhaust fan ive ever owned. the detailed installation instructions made it a snap to install. the available options are great, such as independent main light, night light or fan only and the plastic fan or squirrel cage [it will never rust } make it the only exhaust fan i would ever buy. nutone really hit a home run with this one !

        replacement
Purchased this fan to replace an older 80cfm that didnt even work really. Install was pretty easy. For retrofit you have to bend the tabs that mount to the joists in to fit it through your ceiling hole and then screw through the sheet metal anywere to secure it. Took 2 hours start to finish. Performance wise this thing is a beast. I have a 40 sq foot bathroom but the 4 inch duct has to run 25 feet so i chose this larger unit. I can shower with no steam now or fog on mirrors. Im sure if i used 6 inch duct work this thing would be even better. The noise is not loud. Its definitey enough to hear running but not obnoxious.

Love this product. I purchased this item for the primary bathroom several years ago and now we are upgrading one of the other bathrooms, so I wanted the same look. It was installed by my handyman, and it works amazingly.

My bathroom is small. It really illuminates in those space. Looks very good. I have not used the night light feature yet. But the Star Rating 130CFM was key to decision to buy.

Overall, I’m happy with the product. Moves air well and lights are good. Wish this product came in another color than white. It’s a bit noisy but not too bad.

Does a good job at exhaust, and the light is quite ample. The spring clips that retain plastic vent cover, and the lamps have been made so short that it's almost impossible to get the cover attached. An older model had spring clips that were 1 1/2" longer.

The new fan had a bad bearing, which I only learned after I paid an electrician to look at the completed installation. I had to buy a new exhaust fan.

          A bathroom fan that works
I needed a fan with a bright light for a 120 sq ft bathroom. The Broan QTN130LE1 was the perfect fit. The light is very bright and the 130 CFM fan will move a lot of air. The noise level of 2 sones when using a 4” exhaust vent is a little loud because of the back pressure. But if you use a 6" vent then the fan will be much quieter with less back pressure. Also, a 4” vent will not move 130 CFM. So I purchased the Leviton RTF01-10I speed control to lower the fan speed and I am using the medium speed setting. This speed still moves enough air to remove the steam from my bathroom and the noise level is cut in half. If you need to remove more steam then you will need to use a 6” vent and the speed control will be optional, depending on the noise level that you are trying to achieve and still remove a good amount of steam from the bathroom so that you do not have mold growth. As far as installation, my bathroom is on the 2nd floor with attic access, so installation was pretty easy. If you are replacing an existing fan on the 1st floor, then installation will be much harder and the opening in the ceiling drywall will need to be much larger to get the fan with duct boot attached up into the ceiling joists. Then you will need to close off the extra space in the ceiling drywall around the fan box so that you are only drawing air from the room and not from between the ceiling and the floor above.

            Response from BroanCustomerSupportJan 17, 2024
We are disappointed to learn of your experience with the QTN130LE1 ventilation fan with light. This model is rated at 130 cfm's with 1.5 sones. It does require a 6" duct size. The duct should not be reduced. There should not be an elbow directly off the housing. There should be two feet of straight duct pipe before and after any elbow. There should not be an elbow connecting to the wall/roof cap. We would be happy to go over the installation with you if you would like.
