The cut-out on the bottom is 3-7/8" x 3-7/8". It's almost 1/4" of space on each side! Looks like a mistake when installed. And it would be hard to secure it with a few finish nails. You have no choice but to use glue. Too bad because this is otherwise a very decent product.

Really like these post caps. Excellent quality look great, give the fence a nice finished appearance.

I have a large deck made of Ipe and have been agonizing over how to cap my posts. Thought I wanted copper, but when I saw these I decided to give them a try. Special ordered 24, hoping I'd find them acceptable, but knowing I could send them back to HD if not satisfied. Well, I'm not just satisfied. I love these caps. They are meticulously manufactured in one piece - no joints, and surprisingly well finish-sanded out of the box. Note that the pictures here at HD somehow misled me about the overall shape/profile. I thought they were going to be wavy/curvy, not angular, which I wasn't too thrilled about, but it seemed the best option. Lo and behold, when I opened the box they are exactly the profile I would have purchased if it had been available. Now when I look back at the pictures I see how I got fooled. They are, in fact, the "traditional pyramid" shape. Having shopped at all 3 big box chain stores in my area and carefully considered every variety of post cap they offered, I will state categorically that these are the best. The only way they could possibly be any better is if they were made from Ipe!

To large for a 4x4 post

THE POST CAPS WERE PERFECT AND PACKED WELL. HOWEVER, I returned them because the tops were to small. They fir the 4 x 4 posts but the tops were visibly much smaller than the originals. I buying the post caps at home depot and the colonial ball caps and treating and staining them. These are made much better but because of their small size, even though they fit the posts, they were visually not attractive.

Smooth and well-shaped. Exactly what we expected. The vendor called me before shipping to ensure that we had the correct measurements and that we wanted to proceed with the order. I was able to stain them quickly and easily and they look great! Adhered with wood glue.

Excellent. Installed on 12 posts protecting the grassy area in circular drive at our town performance center.

Appeared a lot darker and redder than what's in the picture. Matching with the posts (unfinished) wasn't ideal. The post caps are rather nice, otherwise.

Solid and sanded smooth. Perfect fit for new outdoor stair rail. Would definitely buy again.
