Works great, but has one, major design flaw.
The bottom of the tank is raised (like in the most juice bottles) and the straw goes only to the top of the raise on the bottom. Therefore it makes more challenging to paint vertically and you will have paint leftover no matter what. Other than that works great for the money.

    Looks good
The Powermate VX heavy duty spray gun is a well made sprayer for a variety of jobs. You can use it for applying latex, primer and lacquer. Spraying latex is simple with adjustable controls for both the air and fluid. Also comes with two nozzles. One for internal mixing and the other for external mixing, like for spraying lacquer. Yes you do need to hook it up to an air compressor which is not included.

For the price, this is a great spray gun. I only have a small pancake air compressor and wanted to find a gun that could work with it. My compressor is rated at 2.6 cfm and this gun is rated at 2.4 cfm @ working pressure. I did run out of air towards the end of a paint cup and my compressor overheated occasionally but it got the job done with little fuss. As for the fit/finish of the gun; I don't have any real issues except that screwing on the cup is not as easy as I'd like it to me. The threads seem to have some trouble screwing onto the gun and it takes a little effort to get it done. Again, for the price something like this isn't unexpected.

How does such a great sprayer get a one? Because the can is so difficult to screw in. It does not tread easily and if you mess the threads up, that's it! The easiest thing in the design and production should be corrected as soon as possible because the spray gun itself is a five; easy to adjust the pattern and amount of paint released. Fix the attaching can and it gets a six.

    Lousy paint sprayer.
The threads on the cup cover and cup were damaged and making it useless.

I bought it to spray latex paint. While it did work, I had to thin the paint considerably.

      Piece of junk
The instructions were somewhat confusing. I worked with this sprayer for a couple of hours, had my air compressor set on 40psi, but could NOT get the sprayer to work. I had to break out my big airless painter to paint a couple of cabinet doors. I’m taking the piece of junk back.

It can handle the job but is a basic style of sprayer
This is a pretty nice spray gun. It is all metal construction with a plastic/rubber pickup hose. I have mixed feelings on the size of the canister that I have to fill up frequently but on the otherhand it starts getting pretty heavy when it is full so it is one of those issues that I just live with. It does a good job of evenly spraying the paint. Overall it's a pretty good sprayer.

      excellent for DIYers
This spray gun is excellent for the normal DIYer that uses it on home projects like myself. I got this to paint my cabinets as I didn't want brush marks. After reading all of the information and practicing on some old wood, I very cautiously tried it on my cabinet doors. I am extremely pleased with the result as they are gorgeous. With this sprayer, I didn't have stray marks nor did I have to worry about brush bristles marring the surface. I absolutely love my cabinets now.

      Sturdy Sprayer
I liked the fact that the spray gun came with the male attachment for the air hose, it made it a lot easier having that, because I din't have to search for the correct size. I used it for latex, but I could only do one wall at a time, because I felt that it should be flushed periodically. I'm not sure if this was the right decision, but with such a small nozzle opening, I felt it was a safe bet.

      Easy to use
I like to go to flea markets and find bargains. I frequently find things that I really like but that are the wrong color or are in need of a new coat of paint. While I use a lot of spay paint, with the spray gun I can choose custom colors. If the item is large or intricate, I can use the spray gun and easily and quickly paint it. The gun is easy to fill and it covers evenly and completely.

      decent quality mid grade gun
This is a good, mid-grade spray gun. It's all metal, a decent weight and balance, and the trigger assembly is quality made. It shouldn't fall apart after a lot of use like cheap spray guns do. The spray on this is smooth and it applies a nice finish. I used it with latex and had had no problems. Cleanup is easy and straight forward. For the money this is a good value.

Very good spray gun for basic spraying, prefer HVLP for more professional look
This is a good spray fun for polyerathenes, lacquers, and oils. This spray gun is difficult to use with latex based paints. It is also a little bit more difficult to dial one your pattern and pressure, mouth once you get it where you want it, it does perform well. I would definitely recommend a HVLP unit if you have a larger area to paint, but this is a solid unit.

      Very capable sprayer
Heavy duty is a pretty good description of this gun. Everything is metal (except the pick-up tube) and has a substantial feel. The latex mode works fine if you read the instructions thoroughly. There is a set screw that needs to be moved depending on thickness of media to be sprayed. Makes quick work of fence painting. The jar holds enough paint/stain to work for as long as you will want to work with your arm extended and steady. I'm always thankful for a short rest while I refill. Disassembly for cleaning is easy, but watch out for all of the parts. A basket-type strainer is a good tool for latex clean up if you use a sink. Even though it can spray enamel and lacquer, this unit doesn't allow enough fineness for an automotive finish. If you just want to primer your truck it will be good enough :-)

      Works well, but ...
First let me say that overall the spray gun works well. the spray pattern is consistent, and ask I learned in High School Woodshed, as long as you keep a consistent distance from the project and move the gun in straight lines, you get a good finished project. Now what I rated only a 4 under quality; first the screen filter on the intake hose kept falling off. A simple fix would be a better compression fitting. Next the paint was hard to clean from under the seal between the can and the handle. I think a thicker gasket with a pull tab, or an O ring would be a good change.

      Does not work as advertised!
This spray gun claimed to be able to spray latex paint... but I found that it would not. The gun just doesn't have enough power, even at the max pressure of 50psi, to spray any thick paint like latex. I think it might work with a thin wood stain or lacquer, but it won't work with latex. I think the problem is that the suction tube is not attached inside the gun, it just slides into a hole, so there isn't a good seal for it to draw paint. It might work if you thinned the latex A LOT with thinner, but that's not what it says it can do. If you are looking for a spray gun for latex paint, do yourself a favor, spend a few more $$ and buy a better gun that will actually do the work.

      Used to stain a deck
The adjustment controls are not terribly easy to use; but once set, the spray gun works well. It sprays a light even, coat with each pass, with minimal overspray. It doesn't waste much paint either. Staining my deck was significanty easier than the last time I did it, especially with somewhat weathered wood. No dealing with splinters on roller and it sprayed into the cracks and seams well.
