Granite 5'x5' Font pool!
Clear pond shield worked excellent, was amazed how clear and how well it preserved the granite look and grout lines! Completely sealed the font pool from leaks! We purchased on Feb 23, 2024, 4, 1.5 qt. kits to do this job from Home Depot, pond was 5'x5' and 1' depth only sealed the sides to 6" depth. This saved us from a major reconstruction of our font area at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Harborcreek, Pa.

    Better than new
My old fountain was looking pretty bad, one kit of this stuff and I'm proud to have the neighborhood birds come to me for fresh water. It was relatively easy to apply and the best part is not having to clean the fountain as much. Very happy

We used this to coat the 6 ft fiberglass pool of a Fountain because we could see some cracks in it. It worked as described. Did end up having some tiny bubbles dry in it. Makes the fountain easier to clean.

I had a slow leak in my bottom tub water fountain and could not figure out where the heck it was leaking from. I decided to coat the whole tub using this product and was very happy with the outcome. I actually tried to apply it too fast because I didn't want it to set up in the high heat before I was done. Unnecessary... the product is very forgiving and easy to work with.

Pond Armor works well if you follow the instructions. Make sure the material being painted is cool and the outside temp is cool or it will harden too fast and make bubbles. Also, a second coat is necessary for a good smooth finish.

We had a leak in our fish pond from the freezing and thawing this past winter season. Bought Pond Shield because it said it was safe for fish. Took the fish out, cleaned up the cement, and brushed on the Pond Shield. A few days later filled it up, and no more leaks. This product is great. The fish love their new home.

      Works perfectly - no leaks
We were restoring an old fountain from my wife's childhood days. I rebuilt the base but could not get a perfect leakproof seal. The reviews were great indcating that this product would work. Indeed it does. It was a lttle pricey but worked. That was all i needed. You have to purchase denatured alcohol separately. Would have been nice to include all items. Nice high gloss finish.

      Fountain is easier to clean
While this project was a little involved with all the mixing and steps, I am very satisfied with the results. The fountain looks great and is easier to keep clean. It does make the surface very slippery for the birds when they try to get a drink, but they still manage.

Works Great on Wash Tubs Too
I tried this product on my wash tubs because dirt, lint, etc would cake up on the cast iron type tubs after a few loads of wash and it was a job to keep the tubs clean, to the point of needing to use a paint scrapper. Pond Armor solved this problem. See Photo of Before and After. I used the 1.5 qt kit for this project. I only needed about 3/4 of the kit but because this was my first using this product, I mixed up the whole kit. Armor Pond is pretty easy to apply. It went on easier with my small roller versus my paint brush, but both worked OK. It started hardening up after 20 minutes so you need to work fast or get a helper. TIP: Because the directions nor the bonding cans mention anything about clean-up, be prepared to throw away any items you use on your project. I found a bottle of "Krud Kutter" at Home Depot and it removed the Pond Armor off of my hands and fingers (should have worn gloves). The hardest part of this job was trying to pry off the white plastic safety rings on the Part A & B cans of product. When I called the company, all I got was an answering machine and no return call. I ended up finding the solution on You-Tube. You have to pry them off with a pair of pliers. I've washed 4 loads of laundry since applying Pond Armor to the tubs and all I had to do is wipe the tubs down with a rag, no caking build-up now. I couldn't be more happier with this fix. And the tubs look a lot nicer now as well. Thumbs up.

Does exactly what it says it will do
This product did exactly as it was supposed to do: it worked! We used it in a large koi pond that is a split level, shallow on one end, and a deeper pool on the other end, lined with a concrete bottom and sides. We have 10 large koi, and had a leak that we could not resolve with any other product. I don't have to describe the loads of work it takes to fix a leak in such a large pond. Emptying water into large containers to conserve water, transferring fish to other holding areas to keep them healthy, and then cleaning and prepping the affected area was a lot of work. But if you use this product exactly as described and recommended, you will get results that you only hoped you could have. We have had the pond as full as it should be, and not one drop of water is evident outside of it. The leaks have apparently all disappeared, and we now have the pond we had originally: completely a place pf peace and beauty, and no annoying and costly leaks.

      Good sealer
Pond Shield is an excellent sealing product. I have tried colored and clear and both types have worked well. One caution is that it starts to set up rather quickly, so you can mix only as much as you can apply in about 15 minutes. I used it to seal a concrete based stream and small pond I built in our yard (see photo).

2nd kit worked much better. Beware of old product.
This is my 2nd review of the black. The first was 3 stars because it setup too quickly. We thought it was because of the black pigment. Our first project we used the clear with great results. Because the first can of black setup so quickly we had to get a 2nd kit to finish the project. This kit must have been much fresher as it went on easy and smooth, just like the clear. Beware if you're black pigment can is thick and gel like it is likely old and may setup in half the time as a fresh can. We diluted with denatured alcohol to make it easier to brush on. It went on like a nice glace. We were about to trash the pond because it was leaking near the bottom but we spent so much time installing and landscaping this was our last ditch effort. A different product we first tried did not seal the leak. You may see in a previous review the pond shell was originally lighter grey but is now shiny black. We like this much better. it makes the green plants really pop. Pay no attention to our gnome. he hates getting his picture taken.

Good but not as easy to use as the clear
2nd time we used this product. The first was clear and it went on much easier. the black shown in this review was more of a gel and a lot harder to spread. As you can see from the photos it flashed at 20 minutes, before we could finish. Still had about 25% of product left. There was two of us spreading to get it on as fast as possible. We like the end result. The black is very glossy and should set off the green plants nicely. If it didn't flash so soon we would have given it five stars. Won't know for a few more weeks if it seals properly as we had to order online.

      Awesome Product
I got this for lining my wheelbarrow after the powder coating had become scratched and the underlying metal had begun to rust. I knew it wasn't a standard use for a pond liner, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Turns out, this stuff makes a GREAT wheelbarrow liner. Awesome job, Pond Shield, on creating a super versatile product that's easy to apply! The kit comes with detailed instructions and two separate parts of the epoxy, as well as a thickness gauge for each coat. There are separate instructions for two different methods of application: squeegeeing the coating onto a smooth surface, and brushing/rolling the coating onto a rough surface. I used the rough surface instructions since there's a big note at the top that says this method is best for first-time users. If you're using the rough surface instructions, you'll also need a little bit of denatured alcohol to thin the mixture. I used a plastic cup with volume lines marked on it to mix everything up. Each batch (1/4 of the 1.5 qt kit) fit just about perfectly in one 16 oz cup, with just enough room to mix it up with a paint stirrer. Before starting, I sanded as much of the rust and loose powder coating away that I could, and then wiped everything down with vinegar. (I skipped the recommended acid etch and metal primer, I guess I'll find out if that was a mistake later. I also didn't want to take off more of the powder coat than I needed to, in case the coating didn't work properly. I realize it's completely my fault for not prepping the surface correctly if it starts to peel on down the road, but so far it looks to be holding well!) Application was easy: I poured the epoxy over the surface and spread it around with a foam brush. It leveled well, with absolutely no visible brush strokes. The second coat went on just as easily, but I got it a little thick in some places and there are a few spots with visible runs. Dry time was fast, and when I came out to check on the first coat after a few hours, I was surprised to find even the thick globs of the epoxy on the drop cloth were completely dry too. After it dried, the epoxy still has a super glossy wet look to it. I scraped some metal tools around on it a little after 24 hours of cure time, and aside from some cosmetic marks, no real damage resulted. I have no doubt that this stuff can hold up to everyday wear and tear as a pond liner, as long as it's fairly UV resistant.

      Restoring historic water feature
I bought the clear Pond Shield to use on a 1926 concrete water feature I found buried in the yard of our 1910 bungalow. I used a liner last year after digging it out, but wanted to have it restored to its original historic look and could see some hairline cracks in a couple of places. We put fish and plants in the pond so it was important that it be non-toxic. After using hydraulic cement to repair an obvious crack where the wall and bottom meet, I acid etched and scrubbed the walls and coated the pond with the clear sealant. I used the two step process for rough surfaces and applied the coating with an 8 Inch paint roller. The first coat soaked in so much that I could barely finish -- the pond has about 50 square ft of surface area -- but, as stated in the directions, I was able to completely coat the surface with a generous layer in the second coat. The weather was warm and dry and the first coat tacked up within just a few hours and I was able to do the second coat which also dried to the touch in about 4 hours, so the dry time varies a lot depending on the weather conditions. The finished surfaced has a "wet look" and is thickly coated. Once filled with water, the wet look blends right in. There was almost no odor and the product was pretty easy to work with so long as the instructions are followed carefully, which I did do. The pond has been filled for 24 hours and the water level is constant. This product is exactly what I had hoped it would be, and I am extremely happy with the results. It was particularly important to me that I not obscure and, in fact, protect, an impression of a NY 1926 license plate in the concrete that dated the pond -- which this product appears to have done perfectly.

Not as easy as it seemed
This pond shield appeared to be a simple fix for my concrete birdbath that had developed some hairline cracks over the years. The video made it seem quicker and easier than it actually was for me. For concrete, you need to purchase muriatic acid to etch it first, and you need to purchase denatured alcohol for mixing the epoxy. The mixing formula differs, depending on whether the surface is smooth or rough. For smooth surface, mix equal parts of A and B. If your surface is rough, mix 2 parts of A with 1 part of B. I planned to use the smooth mixture for my smooth birdbath. When I finally got it prepared, I mixed the parts as instructed, then realized that the smooth surface mixture was only for when you are using a squeegee - meaning I had to remix using the rough surface instruction which had double the amount of part A. I brushed it on, but had a difficult time trying to get the whole surface at the proper depth of 10 mils and had to stop and make more because I wasn't fast enough to finish before it started to get difficult to spread. The kit includes 2 gauges printed on plastic and the depth of the black line is the 10 mil mark. This coating appears to be effective, but I realized that this kind of project was not for me. Perhaps if I had more practice, the job would have been easier. For an amateur like me, it was not worth the time and effort that I put into something as inexpensive as a birdbath that did not turn out pretty. If I had to recoat something larger, as a pool, I would have to hire a professional to do it.

      It does what it advertises
We have a concrete fountain that had a leak due to a crack and we could not use the fountain which is a shame as it is a beautiful fountain. Application of epoxy was a fairly easy process. We used a thinner to clean the surfaces and used it to thin out the epoxy as it was a little thick. After we applied the 2 coats to the fountain we let it completely dry. It gives a natural look after drying up and the fountain is holding the water well for almost 2 weeks now :-)

      Provides a great leak-proof seal
I have my pond-less water feature professionally installed but later I wanted to add a new weir so I could have a waterfall on the top of the stream. It took a friend and I a weekend to do it, with adding a new pump to the tank and all the plumbing but it came out great. I used the epoxy in the areas where I was bringing more water and there are no leaks at all. We might have put it on too thick since I most of it and it wasn't 60 sq ft. But overall it is a great product and I haven't seen anything like it before.

      Exactly What I Needed,but...
This was exactly what I needed, but it was for a special project. I have a sunken 'grotto' with a pondless fountain that had developped a leak. The plastic pond tub I had buried to recirculate the water deformed under the weight of a short granite pillar I use to bubble the water and eventually started leaking. I had tried pond liner patches and rubber based paint, but they only worked temporarily. This product did exactly what I needed, which was to flow into the little leaks and create a new stronger bottom surface that was both waterproof and would take the weight. The instructions you receive are intimidating but that's mostly due to detail about prep and warnings for liability purposes. You also have to get some alcohol that's not incuded. It's really simple, you mix the ingredients in order and proportion per the steps and you get a substance about the consistency of maple syrup, just as sticky too. I used a gallon milk jug with the spout cut off to mix and used the cut off spout as the spreader. Application was really simple for me, I just poured the mix in and spread it around. I think this would be pretty easy to use on a regular continuous surface but really tough on a rough or brokem up surface like rocks. Also you don't get much. The 1 1/2 quart was ideal for me, but if you were going to try for the 30 s.f. it talks about you would almost certainly need a second coat. 30 s.f. isn't much anyway, 6'x5', about the size of a full size bed? As I say this product worked perfectly for me in this instance. I have a water course/ waterfall that is losing water between ponds in my backyard, and even after using this product I am still wondering how I will fix that problem. I think this could work, but I would still have all tthe backbreaking prep to do and it would cost a fortune.

      Hard to use
This is a good product although it is very expensive since it done only about 1/2 of the coverage stated. it is very thick and will start to harden in about 10 minutes. I ordered 1 qt to seal a new concrete fishpond. i mixed it in a mouthwash plastic 2" cup making up about a regular cup at a time. (You will also need a little denatured alcohol to thin it.) I had no problem other than coverage. I applied it with a throw away brush. looks petty good after 2nd coat. For the second pond i had to reorder and feeling more confident i mixed up a double batch. (2 cups) This turned out to be a mistake as it hardened before I could apply it all. (About 15 min.) Also clean up any mess as i had a few drops on the patio and had to grind it off.
