CRAP! I ordered two sets of these keys and lock nuts to replace and old set and BOTH keys broke right out of the package when I tried to tighten an existing window lock nut.

I bought two set of these. Both keys broke the first time I tried to use them. They are made of a very brittle metal - almost like iron the way it breaks.

Item easily solved my issue.

I needed the key to open wood windows in my new home and it worked well! I bought two based on some reviews saying the key broke but so far have not run into that issue.

I've bought 3 packages just to get the keys so I can unscrew bolts that previous homeowners thought was a good idea. The keys wear out quickly, but I don't have a choice but to continue to buy them.

The people who are having issues with the keys breaking are not drilling the hole large enough. The bolts should not be tight in the holes. The holes should be drilled out enough that the bolts screw in easily, without much effort. Once they are threaded all the way in the recessed hole and metal grommet, they will be inaccessible to burglars anyway, so they don’t have to be super tight. Do this, and you’ll have no issues with breaking keys.

The "KEY" for the Screw Strips after just Few Turns on the First Screw. Now we're Stuck with a Halfway Placed Screw.

purchased a 1950's ranch style home to renovate. House has these security screw window locks. removed and purchased new ones. my thought was( newer ones will not be the same quality as the older ones). Well, I was wrong!!!!! The new ones are as well made as the 30 year old ones. Thanks for a well made product. And Home Depot thanks for fast shipping.

Bought bolts online to replace ones that were over 20 yrs old. Bolts are fine, maybe a little smaller diameter than previous ones. Problem is with the "pot metal" wrench. On the very first use while tightening bolts, the business end, i.e. the end that fits over the bolt end, cracked in half, making it useless. Now I have bolts with no viable wrench with which to use with them.

NOT AT ALL. Each of the tools that came with the two kits broke and are usable! I’ve managed to install the screws in only three of the 12 windows and now I’m without a safe way to remove the screws to open the windows and exit in an emergency. What’s my remedy?

The key broke when we first installed the locks. Now we can't open the window at all. I used to use these type window locks in an older house and they were great. Apparently the quality of the metal has really declined.
