One week following installation the unit began leaking at the top seam. Upon contacting the company it was determined that the unit could not be repaired and should be replaced. The process and additional costs for replacing the defective unit and having a new one installed are still being determined and worked through.

I, like you, thought the overwhelming 5 star reviews meant I wouldn’t have any issues with this water heater. I read the warnings about the plastic drain valve, but ignored them. And then I woke up with a flooded basement. About 18 months after a seamless install, the plastic drain valve failed without warning, gushing water into my basement for hours before I noticed. If Rheem cared about their customers, they would install a proper, brass valve on every unit. If you buy this, do that yourself.

This hot water heater is premium for sure! I was already happy that it is a 12-year unit, but the higher BTU rating permits it to heat faster and support a bath in our large rub while someone else is using the shower or washing clothes. Good stuff!!

Completely damaged unit. Very disappointed in home depot for trying to sell me this product. Had to be reordered less than one star

Gas valve damaged when I unboxed it. No hot water for a week now. Waiting on new part from Rheem. Unit never lit. Sitting in my basement fully installed and filled with cold water. Wished Rheem had shipped part overnight knowing our family had no hot water.

This water heater is creating a dangerous condition in my home! Thank goodness the safety shut-off is functioning. I posted what the gas flame should look like, and what I have in this brand new water heater. Scary!!! Only one service company returned my call out of the 5 I contacted. They want me to pay as well. A 4 month old water heater should be 100% covered!!! Now it's cold water until I can get someone to actually come out and repair it.

After I installed it, it worked OK. Month later product is not working. they make me wait 30 minutes online and after that they hang up on me. What are the worst service there is

Special ordered. Had 12 day lead time. Came damaged to the store, but all i received is a notification that it is being reordered with another 12 day lead time. I could kot wait for another 12 days. No expediting or alternatives were offered and when i told them i didnt want it, they couldnt stop the order. In the meanwhile its still on my card, so i guess i own it until the store receives it. All i gotta say is be careful if you want to special order anything from Home Depot

Purchased the new 75 gal NG Rheem water heater. While driving home, we noticed a rattle in the tank. Got home and aimed a flashlight in the inlet opening and aimed my phone through the outlet fitting. Found that there is a nipple inside the tank. This was dropped or knocked into the tank during assembly and the tank was still welded shut and passed QC. Makes me question Rheem's quality control procedures.

I need a replacement water heater like tomorrow, we all know REHEEM will not honor there warranty, for immediate replacement! There’s 50+ gallons of water covering my basement apartment! I paid $800 for this unit plus $800 for the install! That’s $1600 in the trash! My old AO smith lasted 29 years! Let’s see what Rheem says tomorrow! Look at the date this was made 10/11/2016! It’s a baby! Wow, I’m heartbroken! Even if they replace it, I don’t have installation money! This is bad news!

I bought a tank and had to return it due to a gas leak from the tank itself. Now I will be returning the second tank I purchased and changing companies. I used soapy water and electronic gas tester to test gas lines. The lines were installed good. There has been a leak in the combustion gas inlets. The odor has been pronounced but less the second time. Technically any odor is considered a leaking tank. All and all dissatisfied and wasted valuable time putting in and swapping tanks.

If you like cold showers, a long frustrating warranty process and heating water for your daughter’s bath, this product is for you! Our brand new Rheem water heater failed after 6 months. We are now in week 2 of trying to get the right parts to fix it. That means cold showers and difficult to clean dishes.

would love to using my water heater but it was delivered all busted up. smashed and twisted. and goes all the way around the bottom.

Well packaged. No damage at all. Great price. Has a long Anode rod for assistance with soft water issues in heater life. Great documents. Fired right up, no issue. Recommended!

Would not recommend this water heater. Rheem warranty works with 3rd party plumbers and they are extremely slow to fix your problem. Had to hire a local plumber after almost a week of waiting, to get it diagnosed Rheem shipped the part (Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant) which broke after 3 months of use and getting it installed costed me close to the price of a new water heater. Lesson learned, dont buy a water heater that has a Flamable Vapor Ignition Resistant.

Disappointed I didn’t open box at store to inspect for damage. The box indicated such, bottom had dents along with numerous scratches, documented (with pictures) once removed from box. If opened at store would a discounted been offered? Other damages: draft hood arms bended; jacket door compartment bended, door could not be initially installed.

Bought it as advertised and recommended by my HVAC friend. But to my surprise, Rheem's engineer did a poor job when they cut the vent short which causes some of the vapors to dissipate too soon at the openings which then creates condensation around the cold water pipe connection as shown in the picture. This will cause rust and other issues around the base of the galvanized pipe sooner or later depending the customer's water quality.

Purchased and installed this water heater in May of 2021. It does a great job of heating the water and recycling for our family of six. Pilot light has never been an issue. Came back from a week long vacation in July and my daughter found water on the floor. No big deal, flushed and drained, reset the the drain valve. One month later my daughter came home to find water gushing out of the drain valve, the cheap plastic valve failed and would not work. Hundreds of gallons of water later, all over the basement, I replaced the drain valve with a stainles sreel connector and brass valve. I will never allow a cheap piece of plastic valve in my house again. Rheem should be ashamed of using such cheap parts that literally disintegrate in two years. Thankfully my basement only suffered several hundred dollars worth of damage all from cheap plastic that failed in two years. Previous water heater was there for twenty plus years and never had a problem until it died. Oh yeah, if you have the cheap plastic, you better attach a hose and get it to the drain.

I had this Rheem installed in June 2018 and it had small leaks that I was able to repair from the beginning. Then 1 month out of warranty, it had an internal leak and the unit now has to be replaced. I contacted Rheem Customer Service, and because it was 40 days out of warranty, they offered no help. Yes, only 40 days out of warranty, and they will not do anything. Needless to say, I will never buy another Rheem and I’d advise those of you reading this review, not to buy either.

I bought my house 13 years ago and it had an original GE heater thankfully I was able to get replaced through home warranty. When Home Depot stopped carrying GE and switched to Rheem I heard great things about them... fast forward 12 years and in the process of switching out the third Rheem. Flooded AGAIN. My hands are tied as I don't have the funds to take my credit from HD and get a better model so for now I'm stuck having to put in another rheem that I know will fail again in 2-3 years.

The energy used is 264 therms as stated on all Energy Guide Stickers for this model. The cost to use the water heater will increase when the price of gas goes up. The per therm of gas cost that THD shows is $1.09. The cost per therm is shown at $1.21 on the newer sticker that shows annual cost of $320. Installation was plug and play. The pilot lit fine after the air purged out of the gas line; due to the gas line-length between the shut-off and water heater. ...and the water is really hot!

Energy Guide sticker on product shows more costly estimate of $320, $32 more than the $288 energy guide estimate on Home Depot’s product page on their website.

So far it's working like it should. We installed it ourselves and had no problems.

After my builders grade AO Smith decided to give up early January, I went looking for a reliable replacement. Did my research and selected the Performance Plus. Easy installation in . Worked right out the box. Had a little water leak from the hose connection. No fault of Rheem. Made small adjustments to the exhaust. Hot water in minutes. Hopefully this will last up to 20 years like my builders unit. Highly recommended for the value, easy of installation/operation, performance and looks.

Cheap plastic drain valve! Busted and caused flooding in the entire house. Broke when not home.

Doing the job. We did install a Grundfos circulator to have “instant” hot water in the bathroom farthest from the hot water tank.

I am property manager for 72 units, we had 2 of the Rheem water heaters quit working after 2 years! They are sending a part out to repair it, and wanted me to pay $30 to expedite the part (I didn’t pay )Why should I have to pay for their shoddy equipment? Save your money and buy another brand! First was purchased on 10/12/2020 and had to be replaced on 03/04/2022; second one was purchased 12/15/2020 and quit working on 02/27/2023! Still waiting on the part 03/232/23

Replaced a 22 yr. old Rheem 50 Gal. Tall that was still working. Easy installation. So far so good.

Thermopile not Thermocouple: Thermocouples are better and fail less. Sell replacement thermopiles at Home Depot? Of course not just thermocouples Plastic drain: In store cost $1 less than metal ones that never break which means it cost Rheem 10c less to install these Anode rod not magnesium: Why have ones that are healthy for you let alone are not neurotoxic? Because they want folks to be out of it enough to keep buying trash. Pressure valve: You get 5 uses before it leaks uncontrollably
