I bought this a couple of months ago for my outdoor pond. This morning I noticed my pond was freezing over with my fish in it. I inspected the unit to find that the heating element and the wire inside corroded.

The de-icer worked well but because I'm in a border-line climate zone it left the pond water was a bit warmer than I would have liked. Tyne was very helpful in diagnosing the problem and replaced it with a lower power model which is working fine. I've contacted this company twice with questions on this product and they've been very responsive & helpful.

I purchased the 1500 watt heater for my pond it was in use short of a month ,When I removed it from the pond to check it the the heating rods coming out of the ellament had rusted ( those should not rust ) and one couner of the rod had rusted thew ( it should not rust its made to be in the water and this took less than a month ) I will be returning it but hope I can get my money back as I do not feel safe putting it back in my pond !!!

I just bought and I can tell you it looks as exactly advertised and appears to be working correctly. I’ve got it plugged into a GCFI switch and into the Thermo Cube I bought from you. I hope to have a need for more of your products soon. Thanks for offering this type of product line.

Haven’t been using this to long yet but it has kept a large portion of my pond open, could use another 5 feet of power cord. Other than that it is great !!

2nd one i own, 2nd time my pond freezes, both units keep tripping the circuit breaker

This is my second Pond De-Icer, the first one lasted quite a few years and I noticed that the design has evolved, incorporating what I believe will lead to an even longer life. I start using them when the temperature may drop to freezing, setting it in the pond while the water is still accessible. The fish like to stay near it, the water lilies survive as well. My pond isn’t very deep, 18” at most and this allows for fish and plants to survive Colorado cold.

I purchased this de-icer as a backup to another one that is still operational. I have read good reviews about the K&H model so will be the next in the pond when needed. My current de-icer is another brand and I’ve had some issues with it.

As of January 2019 it has been a great purchase. It kept my pond from freezing over and I haven't had any problems .

We have an indoor pond in our barn, approx 12’ in diameter and a foot deep. During the extreme cold, the pond became icy and slushy. After about two hours with the 1500w de-icer, the pond was ice and slush free!

I received it on Friday. I plugged it in on Sunday and it didn't work.

It is 250W so I hope isn't too expensive to run. The size is perfect to float and run above two pumps to keep them from freezing. I have it plugged through a thermostatically controlled adapter so it only runs during freezing temperatures.

I'm on my forth one in 3 years. The first one lasted a year and a half. Bought one last winter when the first one started to trip the gfi. I bought two more to have a spare because I lost fish last year when the first one died. The one from the previous year quit early this year had to use one of the spares. now it's doing the same thing as the other. they have to be getting water in them somehow to cause this. Just now pulled my other spare out of the box and it wont heat at all. They want you to box them up and send them back for the warranty. In my opinion not worth the postage.

Must admit, I was kind of skeptical about purchasing this De-Icer in spite of the positive reviews, but glad I did. I have an above ground Koi pond with approximately 450 gallons of water. I have the heater on the bottoms near my pump so heated water that cycles up to the waterfalls will not freeze. Though here in Kentucky the temperature haven't been too extreme yet, we have had a couple of days with temperatures in the low 20's. No water froze on any of the five waterfalls and the water temp. read 48 degrees. Rather impressed. Now in January when it dips into single digits, It may be a totally different story. But for now, all is good.

Ordered January 3, 2018. Received January 10. I live in Columbus Ohio. My pond is 1125 gallons and is covered with framed, clear polycarbonate roof panels. I put the K&H products perfect climate 1500-watt pond de-icer in the un-frozen pond on 1-13-18. The de-icer shorted out/ stopped working on 1-23-18. Lasted 10 whole days. While it was working, it did keep my pond at 58/60 degrees while the outside temps were at -3 wild chill.

It’s works great, not a piece of ice present on even the coldest days so far. The fish are active and seem to enjoy huddling around the heater on the really cold days. I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for one.

I have not put it to use yet because it has not been cold enough consistently. when it is and I utilize it then I will be able to give you a rating. I am looking forward to see how well it is going to work. For now I will rate it Fair until I can give a true rating. thanks, Lloyd

The last reviewer must not know how these work. These aren't going to keep your whole pond open all the time. It depends on your pond size, depth, and the temp. When it is -20 here I will only have a small section of my 1200 gallon pond open on top and the rest of the top is covered in ice. But that is fine. The heaters are to keep your fish alive and keep most of the pond, mostly the below surface area, free from freezing. The ice on the top is actually good insulation as long as there is an opening. My 1500 watt heaters that I have used, even different brands, all do the same thing which is keep a small surface section open in super cold temps and then all the below area also thawed to allow plenty of area for my fish. That's what these do.

This is a delayed review as it is hard to review a cold-weather product accurately until you get some - uh - cold weather. But now that the overnight temps are dropping below 0º, I can see that the Thermo-Pond de-icer is in fact keeping an open area on the pond. My pond is about 160 gallons with a depth of about 2 feet. The de-icer is keeping about 5 square feet open, out of a surface area of maybe five to eight times that. Contrary to K&H recommendations, I am running the de-icer on an extension cord, the same one that runs my pump. Hopefully that will not create problems down-line. The cord is one of those 25' cords used for outdoor appliances like lights and trimmers, not the 8' indoor ones running behind a sofa. I suspect that makes a difference, but K&H just says not to use "extension cords." Your mileage may vary, as the saying goes. Check back with me in the Spring of 2017 or later and see if I'm still happy. Or in 2027 when the de-icer, like my pump, may still be operating after 10+ years.

My 1500-watt deluxe pond de-icer is only keeping 25% of my 1000-1200 gallon pond open from ice. I expected a much larger opening in the ice, in light of your advertising claims.

tripped my GFI when it developed an obvious leak at a seam. Was working great until then.

I have owned another style pond de-icer and was never happy with the way it worked. This pond de-icer showed results right out of the box.
