Warning: This mender is no longer made of Brass as described in the product specifications. It is a 2 piece cast material. It does come with a stainless hose clamp. This is a mediocre repair kit at best, but size and function will work in a pinch. I would recommend that Home Depot revises the product description AND picture ASAP.

Warning! Do not use!
Warning! Unless you are looking for a project down the road, don't use these. I bought four of them and learned the hard way that they corrode very quickly where the threads make contact with hose bib, nozzle, etc., eventually making it impossible to remove, no matter how much WD-40 you use. They are cheap aluminum fittings colored to look like brass. Aluminum presents a greater risk of galvanic corrosion than most other materials. This means that where it comes into contact with other metals it corrodes quickly, and the result is the threads become permanently stuck together. So unless you are handy with tools and want to waste the time cutting away and knocking the old threads off with a chisel, hopefully not damaging your hose bib, nozzle, or other fitting in the process, then go with REAL brass (but these seem to be getting harder to find at home depot) or plastic. I've attached a picture of the aftermath.

Buy a separate 3/8 to 7/8 in clamp and you are set
Based on various reviews I did not trust the clamp that came with the hose-end mender. I bought my own clamp that is a little smaller (3/8 to 7/8 in) so I could really tighten it down. I'v e been using it for days - no leaking, not a drop. A very cheap alternative to a new hose.

not brass. over priced for coated pot metal.
Not a quality brass fitting. I have bought the real thing in years past for the same money at the same store. Now it's a brass counter fit for the same money.

Fixed what was broken
I was surprised at how easy it was to fix my hose. This hose end was water tight with very little effort. Kept me from having to buy a new hose, so I'm happy.

genuine Aluminum
Guaranteed to corrode to anything you attach it to. Better to stay with brass or plastic

Don't bother
The picture makes the item to appear to be brass, It isn't. Do not like the hose clamp, sharp.

Excellent product
Very easy to use. Cut off end of old hose. Insert hose mender into end of hose and tighten hose clamp. It's done in less than 5 minutes. No leaks.

Long term issues
I was sorry to see the metal hose end menders changed from a decent metal fitting to an anodized (?) aluminum. I repaired several damaged hose ends with these last season (2012). The installation was straight forward, although I was not a fan of the dangling metal end on the hose clamp used to secure the replacement end. They worked. This season, I found the replacement hose end threads were oxidized/corroded and were very difficult to join. Had to use pliers and ended up damaging an original end trying to screw on a replacement end. Give me a brass fitting any day. They last for years.

Quick & Easy
I needed to replace the handle on my hose but it was rusted on. I had to cut the hose and used this with the Quick Connect Faucet End Connector and a Faucet Adapter. The worker at HD showed me how to install it and it took less than one minute. Very easy.
