Difficult to install; not shipped in installable condition
This chandelier looks nice (see photos and judge for yourself). However, it is difficult to install. We broke a piece while installing. The piece looks metal but is in fact ceramic or plastic and breaks easily. One of the three upper arms was loose and would not stand upright. Fixing this required disassembling a cap (located underneath the plastic piece we broke), placing the arms in the correct position, tightening the nuts that lock the arms in place, then replacing the cap and pieces. The chandelier is heavy, but no so heavy that I could not heave it up atop our scaffolding. The real problem is that it cannot be properly assembled while sitting on the ground. It is designed to distribute the weight of the chandelier among 6 arms. The center spindle is not screwed in at all. The only thing holding it upright is tension from the lamp cord and other wires. Hence when it is not hanging, it wants to lean over and the weight of the top of the spindle is sufficient to crack the breakable piece into which it fits. If I were to install it again, I would use duct tape to secure the spindle to the top of the chandelier until it is hanging and the cord is taut. Also, each of the 9 fixtures has a ring that secures the glass globe to the fixture. The ring must be removed, the globe put in place and then the ring must be replaced, securing the globe in the fixture. In one fixture, this ring had been screwed down so far that it was stuck and could not be removed. The only temporary fix was to screw it even further so that it would drop, irretrievable, into the cup of the fixture. I now need to replace that ring and the breakable piece. The instructions are terse. For example, the instructions are: A -> B; C->D; E->F; etc. indicating the order in which pieces should be connected. I advise taping the 6 two-piece arms in place and taping the center spindle because they will not stay in place until the chandelier is suspended from the chain. I found that, until the chain was properly hung, the cord and wires bear the weight of the chandelier (and they should not). The cord and wires (grounding wires and safety cable) should be threaded through the chain only after the chandelier is hanging.
