Replaced M4770 with this.
Got this to replace an 8 year old marantec M4770 that was malfunctioning. Took a bit of re=engineering because the mounts have changed considerably from the M4770. The 380 mounts are only on rail, the M4770 mounts were on the unit itself. In other words the 380 hangs off the end without direct support. The header mount for the rail has also changed, so basically buying from the same mfg did not save me any time. Had to do a clean install anyways. Did not like the two piece rail, it bends significantly more than the old 1 piece rail and is of lighter construction. Also not a fan of the cheap LED lights on the unit. I got the LED expansion kit which doubles the LED strips on each side and the lighting is nowhere near the old 60w x2 bubs. The LEDs are cheap and blue tinged, not pure white light as you would have with cree or similar LED's. The opener is quiet, my wife believes it is better than the old M4770. The 380 has a small LED display which the 4770 did not. The 380 also comes with battery backup in the unit, the 4770 did not. I have a very heavy wood sectional door and this unit handles it just fine. The 380 requires a stop in the rail that is screwed permanently into place, the 4770 did not. The rail from the 4770 can be used with this unit according to marantec support, but you must use the stop regardless. The openers, wireless stationary keypad and wired controls are all interchangeable with M4770 315mhz, so programming and setup was a breeze and now I have spares in case I need them.

Well Made with all the Bell and Whistles
My house came with a Genie chain drive opener which has given me more than a few problems over the years so I eagerly jumped at the chance to upgrade. The Marantec Synergy 380 Belt Drive Garage Door Opener is a top of the line feature rich residential garage door opener. It arrived nicely packaged and undamaged. I've done numerous projects around my home but never installed a garage door opener. Seeing all the parts was a little intimidating but thankfully Marantec includes a complete installation guide. The Synergy 380 is for use on sectional garage doors but since garages vary in size, there are a few different install scenarios covered in the guide. I read it at least three times and took measurements before diving in. The install was not that hard but make sure you have the necessary tools. It was a little easier for me because I was able to place the new rail in the same place as the old one. I was also able to use the mounting brackets from my old opener. The Synergy 380 is a fair amount more expensive than the top models of other brands but there are a number of things that set it apart from the rest. First, the 1.1 HP motor will handle just about any residential garage door out there. Second, the LCD display takes the guess work out of programming the unit. Next, the LED lighting saves energy (although it is a little bluish) and produces less heat. The keyless entry unit has illuminated keys and is the nicest I've seen of any brand. One of the best features are the small remotes that can be placed in the car or on a key chain. I've never liked keeping garage remotes on my car visor. All someone has to do is get into your car to then get into your garage. Placing the remote on the key ring is an excellent idea. Let's not forget the battery backup. Marantec's battery fits seamlessly into the unit. This is something that may go unused for months but when the time comes it's worth its weight in gold. The Synergy 380 has worked like a charm since I programmed it. It is without a doubt much quieter that my old chain drive opener. While doing the install I did have a problem getting the motor head to fit on the rail. I contacted Marantec via email and received a reply within five minutes (yes five minutes). They also had the part I needed out to me that same day. The Synergy 380 is a well made product with an excellent warranty but it's nice to have exceptional customer service there if you need it.

All the Garage Opener Bells and Whistles
My old opener was really old. I was glad to be able to upgrade to this brand new one. I remember trying to replace an opener years ago and the memory was not good. So I hired a pro this time. They could not fit me in for over a week. It was worth it. It took him 2 hours and he had to call Marantec twice for answers to questions that were not typical of other openers and not addressed in the instructions. They guided him right away. Very good cust. svc. I like that this opener is very quiet. You only hear my door squeal, which I never noticed because my old opener was so noisy. It also has LED lights and a backup battery pack. It comes with 2 remotes and keypad for outside.

Very Good Quality with Lots of Features
The garage door opener in my house is a cheap contractor grade, noisy chain driven unit that somehow lasted 25 years. I decided to replace it with the Synergy Model 380, which comes with two remotes, an indoor wall controller, and an outside keypad for easy access. After using the Synergy 380 for several days, I am very impressed with this garage door opener. Further discussion of features and quality are provided below. The Synergy 380 is designed and manufactured in Germany, and will operate doors up to 8 feet high. It comes with a high quality, whisper quiet DC Motor (1.1 Hp), and is a belt driven system. It has LED lighting (500 lumens) that can also be activated without operating the unit. Installation is somewhat complex, however, the instructions are very well written and includes plenty of figures and details. The wireless outside keypad is very useful, and the two remotes are designed for carrying on a keychain. It also comes with a battery backup system, which allow the door to operate during a power outage. The only problem I discovered involves piecing together the two rails during installation. I was unable to line up the two rails and slide the sleeve over the joint with the belt under tension. I ended up having to remove the belt tensioning bolt to line up the two rails, and had to file off burs off the rail edges from trying to do it as per the instructions. Overall I am very please with the Synergy 380 Garage Door Opener. If you are in the market for a top-tier garage door opener, this is a very good choice!!

Perfect!
Great door opener! Replaced our old noisy one the builder installed in 1998. This is quiet, has variable speeds you can program (not only for the normal travel, but for the soft close and the end of travel) and all the accessories included for remote operation. This was a little tricky on the install since we never tried to install one previously. Make sure the emergency release dock is in the correct position while installing or it will get caught in the track near the operator. Not good! But once we got that taken care of, it works great. and has an easy programmable display. Our neighbor spent over $700 to have an opener installed that is almost identical. We saved about half that amount. We also called the customer service number a few times. They pretty much deal with installers, but asked if we purchased the opener at Home Depot and were happy to help.

Quiet, smooth, beautiful and modern looking opener
I'm a car fanatic so my garage is an important place for me. I wanted not just a quiet, well-built opener but one with looks and engineering I'd be proud to show off. The Marantec Synergy 380 has delivered! The product was intelligently packaged and designed for intuitive assembly. The pre-assembled/tensioned rail worked superbly well. Installation went smoothly but took twice as long as I budgeted for it; mainly this was because of simple but time-consuming activities like removing the old opener and stapling down the sensor guide wires. The instructions were clearly laid out but I wish had calibrated me better to how long the job would take (I expect this is not unique to the Synergy 380 but would be similar with any make). I probably spent 12 hours in total over 3 days, counting removal of old opener and finishing touches like painting bolt heads outside the garage door and programming remotes. Performance is very impressive: very quiet and smooth, no vibration. I purchased the backup battery which failed to open the door during a power outage simulation I ran, but that might have been due to battery not reaching full charge. One minor part was missing from the package: a small plastic lens to relay the battery's status indicator light through the housing. Marantec Customer Service very responsively sent me the part in a jiffy bag, so full marks there. Overall, I'm delighted with it, and the envy of the neighborhood of underpowered Chamberlains and LiftMasters!

love it
This is the second one I purchased. One for myself, now one for my parents. I also installed one for my daughter and son in law they received as a house warming gift.Everyone should have a Marantec door operator, just not everyone knows it yet! Spread the word It's easy to install, easier to setup, and programming the additional remotes' by far the easiest. I can't say enough positive things to do it justice, just get one for yourself !

    Honey-Do Award Winner
When your wife's garage door doesn't work anymore, this opener will make you a super-hero. It is amazingly quiet and more than strong enough to open insulated, double-car garage doors. Great safety features and nice add-on equipment such as outdoor keypad opener. It does take more time to install than what the manufacturer suggests, but that is fairly common. In other reviews, some have complained that it is too slow. This is true to a point. It has a very even draw when it is opening which is slower than other openers, but it doesn't bounce around and cause unnecessary vibration etc. which in my book means less wear and tear on equipment and hangers. Biggest recommendation is to order the extra light kit. It's easy to install and really brightens things up.

Marantec Synergy 380 Garage Door Opener
This opener was easy to install. The components are made from quality materials. It has a very quiet motor, but it is not a true 1.1 HP motor. The lights, even with the added cost of the additional LED lamps are poor. I certainly expected brighter illumination. The operation of this opener, even with setting it to the faster speed, is slow. Performance of the remotes is good. Programming is a snap.

    Doesn't work well with Homelink
Pluses: Quiet Smooth Soft start and soft close Works effortlessly on heavy solid double door Minuses: LED lights are dim and blue-bought the $18 upgrade kit to made them a little brighter Works only intermittently with 2013 Lexus Homelink, about half the time, never had a problem with Homelink before on old opener (Liftmaster). Door opens/closes slowly under default settings, but speed is easily adjustable and under fastest setting it has what I consider normal speed. Does not have a motion detection light sensor that my old opener had. Bottom line: a great smooth powerful and quiet door opener. Wish it had standard bulb base that an LED bulb could screw into. Homelink does not consistently work. Contacting Customer Service to see if the issue can be resolved.

Best garage door opener I've ever installed
I am a do-it-yourselfer, so I installed this garage door opener myself in about 3 hours taking my time. I did call tech support once for a question, and they answered it quickly. They have great phone support. I am pleased with the built-in LED lighting which adds to the value of this opener since you won't have to worry about changing light bulbs, or worry about which kinds to replace it with. The remotes work at a good distance, the unit is quiet which I appreciate, and the keypad has a nice feel to it. Very solidly built, and I expect it to last for a long time.

      Fantastic product!
This product is well made and speaks quality throughout. The manufacturer has provided everything for the installation to be as easy as possible. Let it be known that the perforated L-brackets for assembly suspension off the ceiling were not included, which is understandable. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. IMPORTANT!!! The rail, with the belt drive shipped unassembled and does need to be assembled. This step seems to have confused many so her are my two cents... Lay the rail on the floor, make sure that the U-channel is in place prior to going further. Once U-channel is on the rail, hold one half of the rail against the floor and swing another half open. Both halves should be touching the floor at all times during this step, and the moving half should be traveling clock-wise or counter clock-wise depends which one is being moved. Pretend as you are moving a minute hand of the clock...As you are doing this, make sure that both ends of the rail are touching each other at the split (in the middle). As you keep opening the rail to its final, straight, position a tension from the belt will begin to "hold" the other half from going further. That's to be expected and is normal. Slowly, continue to push the other half forward toward until it is aligned with the first half. In clock analogy, one half will be looking at 12 o'clock and the other at 6 o'clock. The belt does have some "give" and will stretch enough to get through this. Once the rail has been made into one straight line, align each half so that there is no overlap at the seam by slightly tapping one of the rails with the rubber mallet. Secure the u-channel at the seam. Once installed and fired up, the unit is working as expected producing extremely low hum of motor. I think my garage doors make more sound than the unit itself. Self-learning technology is great and ensures that the door stops precisely where it should. Overall I am very satisfied with my choice and would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking to buy one. Absolutely worth every penny.

      Very Good Product
Installation was a breeze following the included directions until it got to the programming part. The programming of the open/close door was easy as well as programming the remotes. However, if a person wants to dive further into programming functions, the software is cumbersome. That doesn't mean that it can't be done. It is just a bit different. Take your time. I had to call customer service because two small items were not shipped. This was taken care of quickly. My only experience with customer service was this and I must say it was excellent. If I had to do this over I would have purchased the the 370 model as I have a 7 foot by 16 foot door. I am happy with this opener but I had to make some changes in supports (miner problem really) and could not use the existing support system for the opener. I also installed a second support for the rail. The wireless opener for the outside was easy to install and program. Overall, this system appears to be very robust, quiet, and nice looking in appearance. The LED lighting is not as bright as I expected but it is adequate (I purchased the extra light strips and would recommend that be done). After installation of such a nice door, I realized other parts of the system needed attention. I purchased a kit with new torsion springs, end bearing plates, center bearing, and new cables. I also installed new nylon rollers. The door is very quiet and working well.

      Extremely quiet opener
Opener motor is extremely quiet. Now, I can only hear the squeaking of the hinges and rollers of the door. Installation was straightforward and the instructions were an example of clarity. The LED lighting is rather dim, so the optional LED bars are absolutely necessary. Speed of opening and closing is slower than my old opener, but is adjustable if you can find the instructions posted on the web. They have omitted these speed varying instructions in the supplied instructions. Overall, very well made and extremely quiet.

I've never installed an opener before so I didn't know what to expect. The instructions were good and took me just over 3 hours to install it by myself. It was also very easy to make all of the final adjustments. It is very quiet. The LED lights are cool.

      Great Product
Nice product. Comes with 2 openers for your car/key chain..And a panel for outside..Also has battery back up-I like being able to program open/shut distance instead of adjusting manually with knobs. It doesn't specify how big the door it's compatible with. I have a 16' solid wood door and I don't know how long the rubber belt will last. Also the metal pin slides into a plastic gear on the opener, so not sure how long that will last on this heavy door either..However, it is working great now..And very quit..Cant hear it opening at all..Only the creaks in the door. A little wd40 might fix that on the hinges.. I also like the 2 piece snap together rail..Unlike rails today that require 4 pieces and made of thin material. Comes with 2 braces to mount the rail to the ceiling.(Angle iron not included) I had to use both as using only one caused the rail to bend when opening this door. I like the fact that you can put the door on vacation..It locks from the pad inside the garage and disengages all remotes from opening the door..Nice safety feature I think. The LED lights are not very bright, but should last some time..I also have a secondary light in the garage, so no biggy there.. There are 2 manufacturing thing I would suggest though..The plastic wire clamps should be a little less wide. When you put the wires for the sensors in it above the track, they just pop out because the grips are to wide for the wires. 2nd..I think they should make the sensor brackets a bit more snug. When you put the sensors on the brackets they kind of just dangle after snapping them in..But bending the ends solved that. And for some reason the rail is about 2 feet longer than the standard rails I've owned in the past. Not sure why though. Not a deal breaker.. The instructions should also state that when you are wiring the opener, you should push in on the plastic buttons to open the grips to hold the wires..I used a small jewelers screw driver to push them in to connect the wires. Overall an excellent product...Comes HIGHLY recommended....

      Excellent speed and features
Installation was easy. Instructions were good and easy to read The LED lights provide lots of illumination and will never need to be changed I was impressed with the speed of the door opening. It takes less than 10 seconds to open my door. The battery backup feature is one less thing I need to worry about in the event of a power outage. The set is very complete with 2 remotes and garage key code pad. The remotes are great on the key chain
