Bought the saw to clean the edges of a barn door that I was building, the door was close to 3" thick and solid wood. I made a straight edge jig to cut the entire length of the door and wow it cut through the door with ease. Didn't bog down and cut a true line. The design is what you come to expect from Makita, well made and designed buy someone who uses tools. You won't be disappointed you bought the saw, it's awesome. It's like having a table saw that fits in your hand, the electric brake does a good job stopping the blade an enhanced safety feature. Quit your researching this is the saw you're looking for.

    Prefect for Wheelchair Ramp Projects
Our organization Fort Bend Wheelchairs has been building wheelchair ramps for about 2-1/2 years and have been using a combination of skill saw and saws all to cut 4x4 post, sometimes using the skill saw and making two cuts. It not the best thing when you are trying to make an angle cut on a 4x4 post. When I found out about this Makita 10-1/4" circular saw, we decided to purchase it and man what an awesome decision we made. It has been a life saver being able to make one smooth good cut every time.

The saw cuts extremely well. Able to take all the 10" table saw blades to allow customizing for your cutting situation. First bought the Milwaukee, returned for this. The Makita is quieter, and doesn't have the play in blade arbor and foot wobble that the Milwaukee had. If accuracy counts, go Makita

Great saw but needs more power
I am a post and beam contractor that rebuilds and constructs period structures and find this saw fits in nicely between my large Makita 16" saw and my 7-1/4" saws. The 10-1/4" is much heavier than the 7-1/4" but comes with a cast aluminium base and a carrying handle right in the centre. I use the saw mostly to cut 4X4 rough sawn lumber and it works very well. blade brake is a plus. I tried cutting 6 by's in 2 passes and can not believe the accuracy of the cut! This saw could give the same accuracy as my 16 but of course, it would take 2 passes. The saw shipped with a 32 tooth carbide all purpose blade with thin kerf. I did not need to swap it out. Again, very happy. Many low-grade saws ship with a steel blade that is almost useless except on soft wood. Makita does take pride. The motor also turns at a low speed (20K rpm) and the gear ratio is 5.25 to 1. The lower motor speed means that this saw is quiet, so much so that hearing protection is almost not needed. All of the controls were intuitive, balance almost perfect, and attention to detail is everywhere. I compared the saw to others in its category and found that the Makita felt better in hand, and had a solid feel to it, like closing the door of a Mercedes. It was pricey however. This tool will be in my employ for a very long. time. Now for the cons. First, this saw needs more power. For whatever reason it easily gets bogged out even on soft wood. I attribute to the fact that the motor on this saw is actually LESS powerful than the top-of-the-line 7-1/4" saw (2.8 horsepower vs 3 horsepower). Second, the sawdust shroud does not deflect enough of wet cuttings away from the cutting surface so you need to blow the cuttings away to see your cut line. It is fine with kiln dried lumber however. Perhaps part of the motor cooling exhaust could be re-directed onto the cut line to mitigate this problem. If you are looking for a quality tool that will make money for you, I would strongly recommend this product

    Works as promised
Bought this to trim 4x4 posts on the all volunteer built wheelchair ramps we build for people in our county. The guys all want to use it. We enjoy only having to make one cut instead of the usual two cuts on our regular circular saws. Well balanced so the increased weight over the smaller saws is ok. Would definitely recommend this saw.
