I got the Klein Tools 1 gal. Premium Synthetic Wax Wire- and Cable-Pulling Lubricant because I had about a 450’ pull and I didn’t want to take any chances. I pulled four 12 THHN Solid wires through buried ½” PVC schedule 40 conduit, one as a spare backup pull line in case I ever need one. I’ll admit, the run is straight for the most part but it does get interesting as it nears the storage building where there are a series of bends and five 90-degree elbows. The run begins in a utility closet in my basement. I wore nitrile gloves (although the wax may have been good for my hands) and actually rubbed the wax onto the wire. I put down some cloth to catch any mess, although it cleans up with soap and water, and pulled the nylon twine pull line that I had installed when I buried the conduit. Everything worked well and the cable pulled rather easily even through the 90’s. The lubricant wax is an interesting substance. It looks like lemon pudding and has the consistency of warm butter. It does not dry too quickly and I did not notice an odor. It does not run or drip (I’m guessing the wax was around 60 degrees when I took the pictures and did the pull). The directions on the container show the wax being poured into conduit. I’m not sure how that would work and don’t really know if the wax can be warmed to become more of a liquid. My conduit was horizontal on both ends so it didn’t matter. Pulling the lubricated wire was a good experience for me. I'm relieved at how well it worked. Thanks, Home Depot and Thanks, Klein Tools.

The 1 gallon bucket of Klein Tools wire and cable pulling lubricant was an excellent product to help with installing wire in a PVC conduit that was 450 feet in length. It made the job much easier and my only complaint was that it was not stocked at my local Home Depot and had to be ordered online and wait for delivery. It is an excellent product like every other Klein Tool I have ever used and I would highly recommend it for "greasing up" your wire before installing in a conduit. Clean-up is also easy as it can be wiped off easily with rags or paper towels.

My least favorite job is pulling wire, as I have encountered many problems doing so. This time my brain kicked me and made me think, "Hey Stupid, Think Smart!". My biggest problem was made one of the easiest wire routing jobs ever with the use of this wire lubricant. Works perfect and evaporates, so clean-up isn't a problem.

I do a lot of work with control circuits and have times when I am needing to pull lots of smaller gauge control wires through long runs of conduit. Sometimes there can be hundreds of these smaller gauge wires and they do tend to bind up when pulling them through. I gave this a shot and boy did it help a lot! It was rather simple to apply, but I did come up with a system to lubricate multiple wires at once. I mounted many spools on a rod, pulled all the wires through a small plastic tub, and filled the tub with the lubricant. It actually worked and I could get about a dozen wires at once all taken care of. It worked so well I was actually able to fish in additional wires at the end that we hadn't accounted for in the original spec of the project. I'll never pull cable through conduit without this stuff again!

We have used for 2 applications so far. The 1st was pulling through 2-inch hole(s) drilled in logs (I applied the lubricant with a paint brush) and it allowed the wires to move freely. I pulled 3 lines initially but then learned about 2 hrs. later I had to fit a 4th in the same hole(s). I decided to just lube the 1 and see if I could get it in with the others without pulling them out since what I read said it was slow drying and hoped what was still on initial wires plus what I would put on the new one would let it wiggle through. The additional line went through quite easily and since it was stiff I was able to push it with little hesitation. The 2nd application was pulling cables through 100 ft. of plastic 1-inch conduit and I just hand applied it vs. a brush and they to, went through smoothly without any incident. It did clean up off brush and my hands using just regular hand soap and warm water. It was very easy to use and worked as described.

This lubricant has a nice consistency of just a little thinner than pudding and is easy to apply, lubricates well and is easy to clean up with just soap and water. I am a DIY and found it much easier to run a bunch of single wires through new conduit by pre lubricating them before pushing them through. I have run them without using anything always with the result of some cutting and scraping of the insulation and this eliminated all the hard pulling.

First of all, my husband is an electrician of 35 plus years in both commercial and residential work. Has never seen or heard of any damages to wiring or conduits of any type. In fact, the opposite is true. By not using pulling lubricants, the odds increase for damages to PVC conduits and wiring jackets. The consistency of this synthetic wax formula is more slippery and lasts longer than the gel type that tends to flake and dry out more quickly. Temperature stable and can be applied with a paintbrush. From our DIY experiences, Klein products are a cut above and recommended without hesitation.

This amount of wire pulling lubricant in a bucket is what you need if you're planning to do a lot of wire pulling through longer conduits, hard pulls where you need to use a rag to really heavily pre-lubricate the conduit. If you're only doing a little, the smaller squeeze bottles will do. This is for the big jobs, stiff cables, pulling it through many turns and a lot of distance. Cleans up easily and doesn't irritate skin.
