This is a commercial grade shower trim kit and it is made of heavy, chrome plated brass so I expect it to last a long time. I've had good luck with other Kohler products and trust their line.

I bought this in January 2014 along with the valve assembly that goes behind the wall and had everything installed by my plumber. Everything worked well for about two years, and then the cold water valve would only open halfway. It's a 1/4 turn valve, but it would only turn 1/8. Since there were no drips, I just lived with it. Then a short time later the diverter for the shower stopped springing back into place when the water was turned off. Again, I just lived with it. This week the cold water valve got really tight when turning it and the water would drip when the valve was shut off. Today my plumber replaced the valve, and it's working well again, but I question for how long. I had both valves replaced as a "just in case" measure. When the old valves were removed the hot water showed very minimal wear, however the cold water valve was covered with corrosion. (I do have a whole-home water softener, and have never had this issue on any of my other water valves.) The half-functional diverter is still an issue, but I'll deal with that at another time. My bigger complaint with the diverter is actually something else -- there is no rubber seal behind it, and tub seal had to be used where the escutcheon plate meets the wall. I purchased this because it's difficult to find a 3-valve fixture for bathtubs anymore, but since this is made by Kohler I really expected something of better quality. I never expected these problems so soon.
