After making a mistake and installing a continuation of my indoor floor tile outside our front do...
After making a mistake and installing a continuation of my indoor floor tile outside our front door we have had to constantly have to cover the tile with indoor/outdoor carpeting as it was so slippery. We have had incidents of many slips and near falls due to the tile surface being extremely slippery when wet usually from the weather. Even just wet shoes, sneakers, bare feet or flip-flops were a hazard! Having to annually replace the carpeting as to wear and mold growth (we're in South Florida) was just a given. I came across this product and as a last resort decided to try it before I go through another years expense and annoyance of replacing the indoor/outdoor covering, again... Now that you know my story about the area needing coverage and what we've been doing these past twenty years, the opportunity presented itself to try something new. Not another covering like carpet or a product that would just 'coat' the surface and need recoating every year or two. Plus those coatings would wear as well as look different than the original. Additionally, with the buildup of those coats and to remove that buildup to prepare the surface again presented a nightmare hence the annual use of 64+ square feet of carpeting in that area always was the easy way out, until now! Finally, a product that promised to solve my issue? I was extremely skeptical of it's claims, to say the least!!! My first task was to insure that I was free of all dirt, grime and grease that might be on the tile that I would treat. Keep in mind that I was using this on the front alcove of my home, about 64 square feet (see attached photo). Over the years we came and went, applied sun tan lotion and had dropped whatever on those surfaces. They have seen bleach and all sorts of pool chemicals, automotive oils and polishes, fertilizer and weed killer and whatever one would use outside the home. So, before I even started with the instructions for the use of the product I had my handyman, using EcoLab's ProForce Concentrated Heavy Duty Degreaser soak the areas that I was going to treat then cleaned using a gas powered 3200PS pressure washer to those areas twice on two seperate days so I know that the area was completely clean and I was down to the tile surface as it was installed over 20 years ago. Now for the installation and application of the InvisaTread. Ideally the InvisaTread/TractionWash Kit should be used as to properly prepare the surface to accept the InvisaTread treatment. I wouldn't expect the same results just using the InvisaTread without proper preparation! I started on the front entrance area of my home and applied the TractionWash following the instructions, simple enough but being very weary of the claims I did a second TractionWash to insure that everything would be perfect to accept the final coating of InvisaTtread. I used about a 1:12 mix of the cleaner concentrate TractionWash. InvisaTread should be used full strength. Using my own (new) sprayer (one was not supplied in the package I received) I coated the 64 Sq Ft area full strength with the InvisaTread and timed for a 20+ minute set insuring that the liquid InvisaTread would remain liquid and not dry on the surface before, as the instructions state, washing down that area. The spray bottle allowed me to spray areas as they started to appear to dry so I suggest you do the same.. I was not immediately impressed with the results BUT the instructions and a call to the manufacturer (very helpful people!) suggests a second application which was done the following day with a 20+ minute wait before the final rinse with their product as instructed in their literature. This time the results were pretty much as claimed! In order to do this 64 Sq Ft area I precleaned everything as previously described with a degreaser/cleaning agent and a pressure washer and then I used a total of about 1/2 pint of their cleaner (1:12 mixture) and about a little under a full quart for the two coats using a spray bottle. I also made sure of full coverage by having a small sponge wet by the solution to wipe (using disposable latex gloves) over the entire area after the second spray application to insure that I achieved 100% coverage. Total actual work time was less than one hour spread out over two days Results: The very next day it rained and as you can see in the attached photo we just have a sisal "Welcome" floor mat before the step up to the entryway and a floor mat by our front door. For the first time in twenty years we can see the tile that was installed and we are completely satisfied! This item also comes in kit form with both the wash and coating packaged together. Definitely the way I'd purchase it initially and then if more of any one of the items is needed just purchase that item separately. Simple cleaning and preparation is the key to a successful use and results for this product. _______________________________________ The Manufacturer states in it's description the following: The InvisaTread family of products helps to protect against the risk of slip and fall accidents at home, at work and at play. I was very impressed with this product. I wanted to apply this on my "step up" to my shower so that my guests wouldn't accidently slip off the step if their feet were wet. (see pic). I followed the instructions which suggested using TractionWash tile & Grout cleaner to make sure the flooring is free from film from other cleaners and sealers. I made sure the flooring was dry before going into the next step. they suggested keeping the grout joints wet which I did. I then applied InvisaTread using a small sprayer. I let it sit for about 15 minutes. I then used diluted TractionWash again to rinse the InvisaTread off the tiles and followed that up with rinsing using clean water. I was very happy with the traction results and am no longer concerned about accidental slips and falls. This product does not change the sheen or color of your tiles which I'm very pleased with. My main message is that you should FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS as suggested on the bottle and you'll likely get the results you're looking for.

When I first applied the product to our shower floor, it didn't seem like anything happened, so I applied twice. Still wasn't sure it worked, but took a shower and could tell a hugh difference. Shower tile had been very slippery and this product really worked! Very happy with results.

I purchased 18 new foot-shaped stepping stones for a path to our pool. When coming out of the pool, we about broke our necks more than once. I purchased a quart of this product. After setting my timer for 15 minutes, I started spraying the first stone. By the time I finished the last stone, my time was almost up and it was time to start rinsing. I rinsed the stones using a soft brush and when finished, I had enough solution to do them all a second time, once again for 15 minutes. I tried to slip with wet flip flops and could not. Excellent results. I will use this again.

Complete garbage. I applied this to tile, following the directions carefully, using the cleaner first, and also allowing the slip resistant treatment to dwell for 15 minutes. The tile after application is still super slippery when wet. Do not waste your time, money, and effort on this product.

I was looking for a way to improve the traction, reduce the tendency to slip in a couple places. One is a porcelain tile bathroom floor right in front of a step-in shower. The other is an outdoor porch area that has ceramic tiles. The InvisaTread is a clear liquid that etches the flooring (it is a glycolic acid sdolution) that can be applied with a sponge or sprayer. It has to be left on for a while to etch the surface - called "dwell" time in the instructions. Then it needs to be cleaned off and rinsed to stop the etching action. It's a clear liquid that does not change the color of the surface and the surface looks and feels almost the same after treatment. But it does give the surface more "tooth" so that stepping onto the floor with wet feet is much safer. The slick characteristic of both my porcelin and ceramic tile was greatly reduced after treating with this. I don't know yet if the etched surface with tend to collect more dirt and stains compared to the untreated tiles, but so far it seems like it cleans up just as well as untreated.

Great improvement! This InvisaTread 1 Qt. Slip Resistant Treatment for Tile and Stone did a great job of making our tile surfaces less slippery when wet. We have an outdoor summer kitchen near the pool. When we get out of the pool we can easily walk across the spray deck surface but when we get on the tiles by the summer kitchen you always had to be careful about slipping. This product made the tiles much less slippery and a lot safer. So we then went to our other problem area, the tiled hallway from the pool to the bathroom. The distance is short, but the tiles get slippery when wet. After applying this product, they were mush less slippery, making it safer when kids and guests are laughing, playing and not paying attention to slipping on the way to the bathroom. So for my two tiles and applications, this product made the floors safer. The price is very fair for something that makes your home safer.

I used this product in my commercial showers we have had slips in the past due to the tile after following the instructions and getting the floor clean and dry (this is the tricky part floors extremely clean and then totally dry) we managed to accomplish this with a sponge mop and a shop vac but the end result is well worth the labor you can feel the traction on the tile now as before it was very slippery

I love this stuff. It does a great job and is super simple to use. I think that after time it will loose a bit of its effectiveness. But I'm sure you can always reapply as needed in the distant future. There is a little prep work involved but, that is to be expected. It does do a good job of making the surface non slip so I would say it does a great job.

I used this on two different tiles that we have. One has a kind of wood grain appearance and the other looks kind of like white marble. Before application I was concerned that the treatment might alter the appearance of the tile. After treating some of the tiles and cleaning others but leaving them untreated, I couldn't tell any difference in the appearance at all when I compared them side by side. Our floor tiles were not actually glossy to start with. (Floor tiles usually aren't.) That said, I couldn't tell much difference in traction either. Subjectively, it seemed like the treated tiles might have a little more friction, but I couldn't be sure. Instructions for application say to keep the surface wetted with the treatment liquid for up to 16 minutes - don't allow it to dry - but don't allow it to puddle either. This can be tricky if you are treating a very large area, so I recommend treating a relatively small area at a time.

Who could ask for anything more than a product that makes your life safer from slips and falls? This product can be used in so many applications from sidewalks to shower floors and beyond. It is a little involved to work with, though. You need to buy their surface cleaner, have two buckets and two mops and a fair amount of time for drying. But it's totally worth it for piece of mind. I highly recommend this product.

Tyler, we are sorry to hear that you are having problems getting full effect of the product. We stand by our product and are always available to consult and trouble shoot the installation process. Problems are rare but when they do occur the issue is usually in the prep/cleaning step or a dwell time issue. Please clean the surface thoroughly, rinse, dry and try a 2nd or even 3rd dwell time of 5-15 minutes, if 1 application did not satisfy the desired traction. Please call our hotline to troubleshoot the install. Ph#888-842-3356 SurfaceSolutions

InvisaTread is essentially an acid wash, so if it cleaned instead of etched then the reason it didn't work is because the surface was dirty. The first step in the process is CLEAN. Now that you are clean please do the next steps of the process again (APPLY>DWELL>RINSE) and you should see results. Start with a test area or extra tiles and test 5 10 and 15 minute dwell times to determine your surface's optimal results. Please do not hesitate to call our helpline at 888-842-3356 or email us at Support@TotalSurfaceSolution.com. Good Luck! SurfaceSolutions

CL - We are sorry to hear you are having trouble getting the product to work. Please call out toll-free support line at 888-842-3356 and we will gladly help you troubleshoot your problem.

Please note, the surface must be clean and dry AND free of any soap residue before the InvisaTread solution is applied. You mentioned "cleaning the tiles twice", many soaps leave a slippery residue. It is possible a film of soap residue is interfering with the application process. Try using TractionWash or another high alkaline, free rinsing, cleaner/degreaser. Rinse and dry the surface and feel for any soap residue. Using a wet vac or other extraction device helps mitigate these issues; as well as speeds up the entire process.

Some tiles just require multiple applications depending on the density, bisque, glaze, level of dirt, etc.

Good luck and please do to call us for assistance! SurfaceSolutions

    No more slippery shower floor
Using it was difficult -- couldn't do it myself, needed assistance from a friendly contractor. He didn't understand why the instructions were so complicated, but did the job in just about 30 minutes. I never could have managed it. But the result, so far, is excellent. My tiled shower floor is no longer slippery. I hope it lasts, but I have lots more of the stuff left over if it needs another application.

    Seems to wear off
Went on easily. It is a topical product and it is invisible when dry, which is good. At first it made the floor slightly less slippery which was what I was looking for. It did not have a dirty or sticky feel. The problem is that after a month or two I find that I have to re-apply it. I would have liked something more permanent.

Hi Insubburbia, I did reach out to the MFG for more information on this issue and below is their response to you. InvisaTread is a permanent treatment, it is NOT a coating so there is nothing to wear-off, or re-apply. To review, the process for application is: 1. Clean - and rinse the Surface, remove all soap and soap residue. 2. Apply - InvisaTread with sponge mop or sprayer 3. Dwell - let stand for 6-12 minutes to develop the desired amount of traction. 4. Rinse - the surface with clean water to remove the InvisaTread solution and any residue. The only long term care and maintenance is to keep the floor clean. We recommend using a soap that is free rinsing and does not leave any residue (since soap residue attracts dirt, and fills in the micro-pores created InvisaTread). Please try using our TractionWash Tile and Grout cleaner (also available through HomeDepot.com) as your regular cleaner and the surface will come back the same slip resistant feel it had the day you applied the InvisaTread Thank You.
