Headache from beginning to end
I bought this to tie into an existing wired system, but it sounded awful -- fuzzy and buzzy -- at the front door and didn't work at the side door. I followed the directions (which were poorly written) as well as I could and tried many fixes, without results. I called the help number and the lady was friendly and helpful, but finally she said it appears you have a 12 volt transformer and this requires a 16 volt transformer. Of course I had no idea where the transformer is or how to tell what power it was if I found it. So I gave up on using the wires and bought two wireless buttons (waiting another two weeks). Again the instructions were unclear. Many of the rings were fine but some were fuzzy. It was hard to select which ring you wanted. The case that mounts to the wall is double-ugly. The cherry wood is OK but the imitation brass pipes are a greenish paint and have a ridge down the side. The button cases are plastic and I wanted to mount them with screws but there are no holes in the case, only places to drill a hole. It seems quite possible that drilling holes will crack the plastic so I mounted the buttons with the provided double-sided tape instead, though that will probably not last long.

Response from THD Customer ServiceJan 28, 2013
Hi Theo, I apologize for your poor experience with this product. I did reach out to the MFG for more information and below is their response to you. Your door chime should not be making a fuzzy, buzz sound. If you are using the door chime in a wired application, this fuzzy buzz noise could result from the diode not being installed on the back of the front doorbell pushbutton or the diode maybe installed in the incorrect polarity. If the diode is installed and your chime only rings when the pushbutton is pressed, simply reverse the direction of the installed diode. If you are using the door chime in a wireless application, this fuzzy buzz sound could be an indication that fresh C- cell batteries are needed. To select the sound options, press chime button (A) for the front door sound or (B) for the back door sound as described in the instruction manual. (Button A is the button beneath the volume control knob and button B is beneath button A.) Press the button until you hear the sound you want. This will now be the sound your front or back doorbell button will play. IQ America has several wired and wireless doorbell pushbutton styles to choose from including plastic and metal. The pipes on the decorative cover should be brass colored. If the pipes on your decorative cover are not brass colored, please call our customer service department number listed in the product instruction manual. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BuildLinkToHomeDepot?linktype=product&id=202901588 Hope this helps.
