If I was rating this flooring 3-4 years ago it would be 5+. My husband installed this flooring in our foyer, living and dining room and our kitchen. It is beautiful, rich looking, easy to maintain, everything you would want in a hard wood floor. We just installed this floor in our final room, the family room. What a difference in quality! There are "knots" in boards that are filled in with black "filler" so your floor looks like there is paint was dropped on the surface. I thought maybe it only one box, however we soon realized it was the entire 9 cases. We were committed to complete the room, as the kitchen runs into family room. I checked our other 3 rooms and foyer there were no such marks. I had to use a large area rug to cover the "filler". So buyer beware!!!!!

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, thank you for taking the time to review our product. Wood floors are natural products containing natural variations. Variations in color, tone, grain, mineral streaks, small knots and other characters are found from plank to plank. Similar variations exist between samples, pictures and purchased flooring. They are normal and it does not mean the product is defective. If further assistance is needed please contact our Technical Support Department at 877-630-1800.

Easy installation, good color, terrible scratch resistance
My husband and I recently spend one year finishing approximately 1,000 sq-ft of basement space in our residence. This new addition was primarily going to be used as a play area for our children and a media room for the entire family, so we were willing to spend the extra money to avoid laying down carpet to make cleaning easier and to avoid the certainty of stains. I am a degreed interior designer who specializes in residential design, so I was particular about finding a product that was durable, functional, beautiful, and cost effective. After looking at many products and on-line researching, we decided this product. We purchased the hand scraped maple saddle engineered hardwood (Home Legend Model DH314 / Home Depot Model# HL73 - SKU:741762 ) from Home Depot (store #4618) in January 2010 and completed the installation in February. Our decision was based on the manufacture's key attributes (“Durability, Timeless Appeal, Long-lasting aesthetic value”) and warranty listed on their web site. The very day, after we had installed the wood floors I slid a plastic toy bin across the floor when moving items around and noticed that there were small white lines on the floor where I had moved the plastic bin. I was disappointed, but just thought I had pushed it too hard or there was something sharp under the bin, but this was only the beginning. As the year progressed, more of these white lines started to appear throughout the entire finished area. We began to remove certain toys from the area, installed felt pads on the underside of anything that touched the floor, constantly told our children to be very gentle, and had guests remove their shoes if they were not rubber soled. Our efforts to stop the surface marks were hopeless, short of removing everything from the basement and not allowing anybody to use the area. Even using a dry broom to sweep the floor would cause these surface scratches if there was any kind of loose dirt on the floor. In the end, we had to put down area rugs in the high traffic areas and in the entire play room. There are so many of these white lines, it has ruined the aesthetic appearance of the floor and has taking away from the enjoyment of the area. I would have never purchased this flooring if I had known that you cannot even practically walk on the floor without it scratching. Normally, I do not take the time to complain about a purchased product that turned out to be less than my expectations, but this product did not even come close. Possibly this is an isolated defect, only affecting certain lot numbers, or this is a known shortcoming of the product. Either way, I feel it is important that Home Legend takes measures to improve the durability of the surface finish on this engineered hardwood. It is obviouse that these white marks are caused by a slight scratching of the top “durable Aluminum Oxide finish” which “adds protection to the surface.” Looking through the specific product warranty, such a defect is not explicitly mentioned unless this is coved by the “free of defect” clause, but regardless of the written warranty a product must be suitable for its intended end use. The claims that Home Legend makes about their product would imply that such a defect would not be acceptable nor have we ever seen or experienced this condition with another wood floor under normal usage in a residential application. We have filed official complaints with Home Legend, but never got any response to our questions.

I was very disappointed to find that this flooring was not very scratch resistant. Within 24 hours I was noticing scratches either from my dogs (40 lbs) or the furniture. While the color is beautiful it does have a fake appearance to it. Especially in regards to the "knots."

    This flooring is worth it!
My husband and I just installed this floor ourselves and we are loving it. It was so easy to install and so easy to handle. We used it in the living area, den and dining room--a little over 700 square feet. It looks fabulous and is very easy to clean. Almost every plank was in good condition--maybe 3 had minor blemishes that we set aside. Our only regret is that we didn't do this sooner!

    beautiful flooring
This flooring is beautiful. There is quite a bit of variation in the wood, which we love. it was fairly easy to put in once we got the hang of it. I would recommend this flooring to DIYers who do not have a lot of time, money, or carpentry skills. We've dropped several heavy objects on it and my 85 lb. dog has walked on it., but no scratches nor nicks yet. Excellent product.

Overall the product is very good.
This product looks fantastic once installed. This product assembles quickly and easily (in fact the easiest I have ever installed..... and i have installed numberous kinds of snap-lock, floating floors). In addition, the design is superior. I don't expect any seams/joints separating over time like i have seen with other laminates and snap-locks. Only drawback..... very soft surface. Its scratches very easily. Be careful during istallation and when installing cabinets, appliances, etc. If not for the soft surface, i would have given this product 5 stars.
