I purchased this ceiling fixture about 5 years ago for my kitchen when we remodeled because it coordinated very well with a another fixture that I had over the sink. This past weekend, the ballast went out. I have read several reviews where others were having this problem. We couldn't find a ballast locally but I did find one online that works and I had it within 2 days. Sunpark SL26T circline ballast. It is different in shape but we only had to drill one hole to attach. I was able to repair my light for less than $15 instead of replacing it.

Great Customer service to replace Ballast free of charge
After reading all the complaints below I felt sure calling the Home Depot number listed in the maintenance/instruction book would be a waste of time. It was not! I gave them the UPC number listed beside the number in the book (found on this site with the light) and they said they would send out a ballast free of charge this week. I should have it by Friday.
Perhaps because of so many complaints they have started carrying ballasts.

Hampton Bay light fixture HBF1204P-263 also under part # 787-411
Hampton Bay model HBF1204P-263 very nice looking fixture, but the ballast went out in a year, Have looked the net over called several locatons but no one have a replacement ballast. Now I must go out and find another fixture, love the looks but will not by Hampton Bay again. No replacement parts of any kind. Do not buy this light fixture!

Ballast is the weak link
As the other reviewers experienced, the ballasts on our unit went bad, first one, then the other, not long into the product life. I probably got two years with both working, then another six months with one still functioning. No ballast replacements on the Internet. Our only option is to replace the entire unit. Bummer.

Looks nice, but ballast WILL fail!
Overall a nice light fixture. It fit my kitchen perfectly and looked nice. Instillation was simple including the wiring and mounting. It provided plenty of light and was a good value, BUT after 1 year the ballast failed. I have looked all over the internet and stores, but have not been able to find a replacement. Even the manufacturer's web site admits that it is not selling replacement parts. Trust me, everyone that gave this fixture more than 1 star have owned it less than one year. The ballast WILL fail. If you want to replace it after 1 year, go ahead and buy it. If not, look elsewhere. I will be replacing it and will not buy another Hampton Bay product.

Changed it 3 times!
In less then 12 months I have gone back to the store
To return the BAD product!! The people at the store were very nice about the exchange process, but if the 3ed one dies (which I'm sure it will) I will be looking for another brand.
It does look nice when it works, but Don't purchase this product

Ballast problem
I installed this product in our kitchen without much difficulty & was happy with its appearance. However, after only about a year of use the ballast failed. This seems to be a common problem with this item. From what I've read, a ballast should last for up to 20 years! Rather than replace the ballast I will replace the whole unit . There really won't be too much more work required & from what I understand the cost of a new ballast can be quite high.

Waste of time
This is a beautiful light and we thought it was perfect; until 9 months later the ballast went out. Looking through the other reviews, it seems to be a consistent problem. I am not looking forward to replacing it every year for the remainder of my ownership. Please pick a different product that has fewer problems.

Beautiful and worth the money
It's hard to find nice flourescent kitchen light fixtures, but this is right on the money. I had thought my only choice was a ceiling fan. I was in Home Depot for something else and mentioned to a store associate that I was tired of my ugly builder-installed light, and he took me to the lighting section and showed me this one. My son and grandson installed it today, took a bit longer than it should have because the grandson forgot the bits for the drill, but if you have all your ducks in a row it shouldn't take more than 45 mins to an hour. And yes the cover is plastic but it's on the ceiling and you can't tell. Also if the plastic cover has some marks on it you can use one of those Mr Clean magic erasers and they will come right off.

Overall good light
Bought this light to go into our kitchen and replace a basic fluorescent bar light. Looks great and was easy to install with two people. Light put out a large amount of light and is close fitting to the ceiling. Defiantly worth the money for such a good looking light. Only complaint about this light: 2 weeks after we bought the light, the ballast went bad and we had to take it down and exchange it and put up a replacement light. After we put up the new light, it has worked great for about 6 months. would recommend!

The look of the fixture is very nice, however after having it up for about 6 months the ballast went out - the electrician couldn't find a replacement ballast at Homedepot, so we had to go through the manufacturer to order a replacement ballast...

Bright Kitchen Light
This was an absolutely wonderful addition to our 1960s era brick ranch home. The kitchen began with a small, outdated brass light fixture. When we saw this light, it was a must have! It brightened up the whole room! The bulbs are exceptionally bright. We have been using them for over a year, and they are not showing wear. The unit does not hum or flicker. Since the unit is rather large, we used extra wide-thread screws to hold it securely into the ceiling. That step was probably not necessary, we just wanted to be cautious!

Bronze Oval Florescent light
A little dissapointed..the light does not say the entire whilte part of this is plastic. It has great lighting and looks nice after it is hung up...but for the cost it should be glass. Over all a nice light, we also purchased the matching one that is smaller for the kitchen and it is plastic too. It should specify that on the box or online. Thought someone might like to know it is plastic.
