Great way to update those boring stairs
We decided to remove the old, ugly carpet off of our stairs and "refresh" the look with these Cap-A-Treads. We had to special order the color we wanted as they were not in stock at the store. Pros: 1. Easy to install. Basically, you cut the tread to length (and depth, if necessary), and glue them down. 2. Looks nice. 3. Laminate withstands heavy traffic. 4. Easier to clean than carpet. 5. Matches Pergo flooring colors Cons: 1. Each tread is exactly the same. There is no variance in the pattern. Also, the pattern is in the exact same position on each piece, so you will want to cut them to width randomly from one side and/or the other. (See pictures to see what I mean). 2. Treads / Laminate is slippery for pets. Our dog now REFUSES to go up and down the stairs as she has no traction. Kind of a pain to carry her to bed each night. 3. Joint where the bullnose attaches to the flat tread is fragile. If the Cap-A-Tread does not fit onto the existing stair tread easily, you will need to file or sand down the stair tread (not the Cap-A-Tread) to allow for a smooth fit, otherwise the Cap-A-Tread may break. 4. Thickness of the Cap-A-Tread is different than Pergo Flooring. This makes it difficult if your stair treads need to mach up with a Pergo flooring at the top. Wish they were the same thickness. 5. A few of the stair treads had a manufacturing defect on them, so we had to send them back. Added 3 weeks to our project. :( All-in-All, I think they are a great addition to our house. A bit pricey, but if you think about the time and materials it would take you to do the same project with real hardwood, these are a definite bargain. Also, I recommend using LockTite PL400 Subfloor adhesive. Works better than LiquidNails brand. Make sure you get good coverage on the Cap-A-Tread with the adhesive.

We had to return them. They were the wrong color. It is vary hard to buy something on line, that you can not physically. As vinyl is be coming more, and more popular so are the vinyl stair treads. I think it would be helpful to the client if you had sample of the actual product in the store. JUST SAYING.

Flooring looks good, relatively easy to work with, but very delicate. Doesn’t take much for the material to crack.

These were easy to cut and install, and they look great. My only concern is that the laminate seems thin and may wear quickly. Otherwise, great product!

Easy enough to install. For the Price I was hoping that it would have a pergolike finish. It is not as scratch resistant as even a cheap laminate. I chose it because I wanted something my dog could not scratch. Looks good though .

Although it matches the flooring in color and grain, etc, the tread is not as thick as the flooring. Had to add height under the tread so it matched up to the flooring.

Home Depot has unreliable installers. Contract people they recommend aren't much better. I've been stood up three times. Measurers have mismeasured. Installers did a crap job and no other contractor will touch it. I am at 66 years old learning how to finish out my home project. Had to buy a mitre saw, grinder, sander, drill press, etc and set up my own shop to correct the project Home Depot started. And figure out how to start on my other projects of remodeling my own home without their so called professional help. Every contractor I contacted to finish the job said, he would not know where to start on fixing HD's installers errors. HD gave me materials to finish it just to shut me up and then backed out of finishing it. But what do I know about carpentry? Will never use their people again. They are the McDonalds' of the installation industry. Get it, get the money, and see how fast you can finish th job and get out. No accountability. Product is average. Service is poorr.

Perfect match with the Pergo Royale Oak. You can use flooring for risers if desired.

Great product. The only problem was, the color did not match my floor. I hope the get physical samples of the actual colors, so that doesn't happen to anyone else.

        Different pattern
The Grand Oak pattern has changed since 2014, and what I received does not match the photograph on the Home Depot website. This was a problem because it did not match the Grand Oak I installed in 2014. After numerous attempts to reach the manufacturer, I was unable to speak with anyone. If the pattern was correct, and matched the photograph, it would be great. The product I installed in 2014 has held up well, and looks great.

          Great alternative to carpeted stairs!
These were installed by my husband and I. He is very handy with a circular saw and also very precise with measurements. The only downside to this is that you have to order them in order to see them....they are not in stock at your local Home Depot. I wanted rid of the carpet on our stairs and these did the trick. They are pretty thick caps and seem to be holding up well to the traffic of several boys, a golden doodle and adults. If you are fairly handy with DIY projects you can get it done in a day or two. Our problem was that the supplier sent a box of treads that were labeled with the finish we wanted but were not actually what was in the box so we had to wait for the right color to arrive.

          A good and economical alternative
The cap a tread laminate stair tread is a very good alternative to the normal hard wood stair treads. There is no sanding and touch up needed which saves on labor and time.

          Great product
Excellent product, very easy to use if it fits over the existing treads. I have used it twice so far with beautiful results. Best to use a sliding compound miter saw to cut to length and a table saw to cut to width. need good saw blades, i used a 60 carbide tipped blade on the miter saw and an 80 on the table saw.
