simply didn't work
We bought this to frighten the pair of Mallard Ducks who have made their spring stopover and restroom in our inground pool every year. They happily swam with it for a few days, around it, narrowly missed landing on it in their touchdowns....altogether a stupid waste of money.

Waste of money
Junk. Rolls over, would not stay upright. Ducks unafraid. Waste of money

What was advertised on the internet was exactly what I purchased, however, the instructions in the box said it would deter Canada Geese, which I don’t have. Needless to see, it looks pretty scary in the pond but the birds that come to fish my pond don’t even give it a second glance.

Works for Grackles
I've owned a gator guard for a couple of years. It resides in our swimming pool where it keeps the grackles from making a mess of it. I like the way the sun glints off of the eyes. We bought this one for my in-laws who were having a hard time with the grackles this year.

Worst on-line purchase ever
I purchased this to help scare away birds from my fish pond. The information listed on-line was very limited. It came in a box much smaller than i expected based upon the size listed. When I opened it, i was surprised to find a flimsy plastic frame folded in half and a thin flexible painted skin. It was a pain in the butt to assemble, but I proceeded though i had my doubts. I noticed the paint was already flaking off from being folded in the box. I anchored it in the center of my pond on a line so it would float on a line and move about as instructed. each time I went up to my pond, I found birds ignoring it. Two days later I found it floating upside down. No idea how it got turned over. My final comment is it does not look very realistic. I truly feel ripped off after having purchased this from HomeDepot. Not worthy of being associated with the HomeDepot name.

Exactly as described on web site
We had some Canadian Geese wanting to make a home in our pool, this alligator Head resolved that problem in a quick hurry, additionally keeping the birds from littering all over our pool deck. We are impressed.

so far so good
my gator head (named Riley) seems to be doing its job. a few local ducks came by Day 1 of use, maybe out of curiosity, but they soon left the pool deck. Riley has only been 'working' 2 weeks, but so far so good.

Key may be to place early in season.
I purchased late and placed in lake mid-molting season. It is not working after a couple of weeks. Directions recommend placing in late winter to prevent landing and nesting. Maybe I'll have better luck next year. Not ruling it out, but it's not working when they can't fly anywhere else.
