We have two lantern this model and unfortunately one the bulb is not working any longer.
I was looking to buy the bulb and find out they can't be change it. What a waste of technology and material.
Very well made and you just have to trash.

Can't change bulb
The fluorescent bulb is soldered in and you can't order a replacement. Considering how good GE is at making bulbs burn out quickly, I'm surprised.

Can't change bulb
Gives great light, very useful during storms. But I just went to check our hurricane box and when I checked our lantern it wouldn't turn on. I put in new batteries and still didn't work. I realize the bulb has burned out, no way to get to it to change. Seems like a waste to toss it out when I could simply change the bulb. Typical American waste of "toss-it-out and get a new one".

Kayak, thank you for writing a review for the model number 17032 lantern. There are a couple of reasons why the bulb is not replaceable; the first is because it was more cost effective not to have a replaceable bulb in the lantern. The second reason is that there is a company that has the patent on a replaceable bulb lantern, using these types of bulbs. If the bulb has failed within the 3 year limited warranty then you should call technical support.

Poor quality
Used this lantern only 4 times as it was kept as an emergency light source but it no longer works. Replaced all the batteries but no go. I wondered it changing out the flourescent bulb would be the answer but I could not get access to it so am assuming you don't change out these bulbs. A waste of money.

excellent product
My friend gave me this lantern as a joke/gift during last year storm, believe me this is the best lantern on the market.
others have been cheap plastic, bulbs not working, not user friendly, I always recommend this product to people and a few love this product. G E outdid themselves on this.
