Decided to buy this refrigerator after on-and-off shopping for a year to replace a ready-to-fail one with broken compressor mount. Given the size space we had for it, this was the biggest we could get and did not find any others that fit our space that did not have the ice maker. We did not want an ice maker as previous experience with them has been completely negative. Overall size the same as the old one. All this meant that we saw it as our only possible choice. However, nobody had this refrigerator available on their floor to actually see it. Thus, we were surprised when the freezer was much larger than the old refrigerator. They sacrificed refrigerator space to have the larger freezer. Unfortunately, we preferred the smaller freezer, larger refrigerator space. And, the smaller refrigerator space makes it much harder to see what's inside. You have to lean way over or stoop to see the uppermost shelf. It did have some basics we absolutely wanted - lights in both compartments, separate controls for each compartment, adjustable half-width glass shelves in refrigerator. And the new one is much quieter than the old Amana one ever was. So, it's not perfect, but we are reasonably satisfied with it after three weeks in use.

Door holds incredible amount . I wish I had one more half shelf in the freezer for my ice trays though.

i bought the first GE refrig to help with my electric bill two weeks later I bought the second one to have for company and when I need more room for cold things. i'm so very happy with both of them

The freezer continues to freeze up and get ice. The ice maker throws ice all over the freezer. Several service calls minimized the issue of the icing up, but it still gets drops of water freezing on the walls and top.

Disappointed with this refrigerator. There is a section, on the top shelf in the back that freezes food. The orange juice I put there had some ice in it and then I put a quart of milk there and it froze solid. The plastic container was actually bulging and ready to burst when I took it out. There is a vent in the center attached to the ceiling of the refrigerator that blows air directly from the freezer down onto the food. The vent is not completely visible as it is part of the ceiling fixture. You can't see that there is a vent there and there is nothing to warn you that it is there and there is no fix for it. I can’t place any liquids there or they’ll freeze solid and so now I have to position all my items on that shelf carefully so as not to place anything in that section, so I’m losing space in my refrigerator.

I've had GE appliances in the past and found them to be high quality and very dependable, lasting 27 years with the only repair being the replacement of the light bulb in the frig two times. With this kind of track record I didn't hesitate to purchase a new GE - GTS22SBXSS refrigerator for my new home and have been rewarded with an even higher quality product than my last one. Great features, modest price for the features you get and the rugged reliability that I've come to expect from GE!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had to replace my GE refrigerator after 15 years. I deliberately bought another GE because of the excellent experience I had with the former refrigerator. Was I wrong! First, the shelves have wide white plastic moulding around the edges. Looks nice, but takes up storage space as you cannot put anything on the moulding. The temperature controls on top of the refrigerator when you open the door interferes with large bottle on the top right shelf (not the one with the meat compartment). We have to keep an average size Brita pitcher all the way over to the right and slide it out perfectly straight in order to get it out of the refrigerator. I could lower the shelf, but then I lose space on the shelf below. Another problem is that if the refrigerator door closes quickly, the freezer door pops open and many times does not close automatically. I had a service person here who informed me that I had to rearrange the items on the shelves on the door; that they cannot be heavy items. This I never heard of, as I was keeping on the door the same items that I kept on the other GE refrigerator and NEVER had this problem. In conclusion, I very unhappy and disappointed with my purchase.

Although this unit is nice looking, it is loud. My 15 year old fridge was much more quiet. In addition, every time the fridge door is closed, the freezer door pops open. What a shame. This is the only model that would fit into the space available in my kitchen. Although this unit was pricey for a basic, no frills unit, I believed in the "GE" brand. What a huge (and loud) disappointment.

The GE GTS22SBXSS looks great and maintains a constant temperature. As a result, food remains fresh for much longer than in refrigerators of lesser quality. However, whenever the refrigerator door is closed, the freezer door pops open. My internet search indicates that this is not an isolated case, suggesting this is a design flaw.

A light in the freezer is a definite plus for anyone with vision issues.
