This worked great for a storage area in my garage. The directions are pretty clear and easy to follow. The only regret is the width of the opening. I cannot get 27 gallon tubs through the opening.

This is the first aluminum attic ladder I have installed. I have installed 5 wooden ones in various homes. This aluminum attic ladder is surprisingly strong with its double reinforced box aluminum frame. It will get a lot of traffic with 7 kids and 2 adults using it. So far it is working great.

Deliver as advertised. Installation was straight forward and easy. One note.... I did asked Louisville about adding a 5/8inch sheet rock to the door opening, as wanted more fire protection. They answered, saying the ladder/door could withstand the weight of the sheet rock. I wish I could add at picture of the installation, with the sheet rock. Best description, the ladder door is now flush with my ceiling, but adding the 5/8 rock, gave it a 5/8 recess, so I had to leave a 5/8 gap between the door hinge and my ceiling. . .

Pretty ugly and the instructions are boring.
Wasn’t bad. The instructions are pretty tedious but you can get through it. Its pretty ugly with big bolt heads on the cover, and the frame is metal but it still cased ok.

    Recommended — sturdy
Overall this is a solid product and it adds so much accesibilty — well worth the purchase. I’ll mention a few “issues” I had, which were mainly the instructions. First, a schematic was missing and overall the renderings were faded and not well labeled. However, using logic made for a pretty sinple install overall. I did have a rough cut already in my garage before installing so most of the work had been done. It is tough to do this alone and its recommended that you have an extra set of hands.

      Nice sturdy attic ladder
I bought this ladder for a second story attic I’ve been doing work in (wiring the rooms below for ceiling lights and fans. Our second story has 8 foot ceilings so it’s a pain to climb up into the attic through a high narrow scuttle hole and have fallen once from a step ladder climbing down so i decided to install this fold up access ladder to make it easier and safer. I bought the 22.5 x 54 rough opening ladder. Actual dimension are 21.5 x 53 so you have some wiggle room.

Although the ladder itself is fine, the piece of composite board it is attached to is a disaster. the very first time i pulled it down, the bold went through the board. too expensive to remove and return the ladder!

        Cardboard Door
Horrible! The door is cracked on the corner just like the other people. The aluminum stairs are not stable and creak. I paid to have it installed. Now what do I do? Buy the old school wood one. I’ve always had good luck with those.

          Cheap
The panel is thin and cheap. I have always bought Werner ladders. Ladder itself is good, but the cover panel is too thin and it is held on by small rivets that pulled through the panel after a few uses. I have installed at least 20 of the other brands and have never seen this happen

            very cheaply made
We are returning it. The door is MDF and has ugly rivets and it was warped out of square and and door was cracked from the warping… not recommended

Excellent product replacing 25yo attic ladder
The Louisville Insulated Attic Ladder was recommended by Sven Home Services LLC whom I hired to replace the broken wooden attic stairs that I was tolerated for 12 years after the HVAC crew bent the hinges while installing a new A/C. The new ladder is built stronger with lighter material and operates smoother using gas cylinders instead of springs. The insulation foam and frame gaskets forms a nice seal eliminating any attic drafts and house leaks.

Need multiple people and another ladder
Don’t waste your time and money. This ladder only created new attic access issues. It didn’t really give me easy attic access, instead we’ve bought and paid a contractor to install a ladder that needs at least 2 people and another ladder to pull down. This is crazy, definitely not what we were expecting in an attic access ladder. Choose a different ladder, we wish we had.

                  Top 5 stairs really unsafe
I thought the added insulation would be great. Wrong. The top 5 stairs are really unsafe because there is no room to place your feet due to the insulation board being attached. We have to go up very very carefully because there is only room for your toes and you have to place your foot sideways. I regret installing this model

                    Simple install and sturdy ladder
My father-in-law and I replaced my old warped and cracked wooden attic ladder with these aluminum ones. The installation was straightforward and took about an hour and a half. If you haven't installed these or aren't very handy, it will take longer, but still doable. I’m 6’2, 225 lbs, and need a sturdy ladder; this one is much more stable and holds up to 375 lbs. They are much easier to open and close than the old ones. Some mentioned the step depth is small, which it is but not tiny or unsafe. It's an attic ladder; I don’t expect them to be deep like stairs or a step ladder. I had no issues using them and felt safe on the steps. After using these for several months, I highly recommend them.

The ladder works fine, but has some issues
This ladder will work up to 12'9" as advertised. See the picture, what happens when you make it long enough for 12'6" The ladder feels a bit flimsy when you are halfway up.At the bottom and top it is fine. 2nd, you cannot safely open this using the provided pole. You can open it and pull down the main section, but you cannot unfold the other 2 sections. Don't try it will come crashing down at your head completely out of control. Instead you need to get out a separate ladder to fold/unfold.

Much sturdier than the wood stairs I replaced. One of the few options for an extra tall ceiling. Now I no longer fear falling to my death from a simple attic trip. Be prepared to do some metal cutting. I incorrectly assumed the last few steps to have a mechanical adjustment to set the final height. Instead you have to take some measurements and actually cut the bottom posts to fit. It's a little awkward when the stairs are already hanging.

                        Easy
Took out some old wooden stairs and replaced them with these aluminum stairs. My wife and I installed them in about 45 minutes. Easy to follow instructions and all the hardware is included. The adjustable stairs is a nice feature.

                        Disappointed with the purchase
I paid over $650 for this ladder, hired a HomeDepot Pro to install it for $500…and once everything was done, I noticed the ladder’s base (the wooden base) is only 1/4 weak plywood. When I pull the ladder down, with a little force, I could easily break it. When I climb it up, it’s very shaky…I’m not sure if I was sent a damaged product (since I ordered it online)…I’m not much of a handy man, but just looking at the ladder, the materials used, and the amount I paid, this ladder is not worth it. The only reason I got my previous ladder replace was because my wife wanted it replace because of it being heavy and she was having a hard time pulling it down (all wood frame), it was sturdy we had no issues. I’m really upset with everything about it, and now I’m wondering if I should add another 1/4 plywood to the base to make it more stable and sturdy. HomeDepot should at the minimum check it’s product before shipping it out, this not something I can send it back for a refund or exchange. We feel robbed of $1200 we spent for the purchase and installation of this ladder. My recommendation is a big BIG NO if you’re thinking of getting this ladder.

too many things wrong with this product
The manufacturing of the ladder had numerous errors that were not apparent until installed..i.e. off center of the hinge, bowed face, etc. also you dont see in the pictures but there are 13 very ugly prominent grommets, that anchor the ladder, that are exposed and visible on the ceiling face. it really is ugly and a distraction. I just hope it holds up.

Attic Ladder to 10 ft height 30"x54" opening
I ordered this attic ladder which could fit to my existing attic opening. However the door does not fit properly with big gaps. The door just shut on the plastic cushion edge instead of the wood door edge. I have to return and re-order for another attic ladder. I hope that the next one will work as expected.

Poorly built, not painted, annoying hardware
Buyers beware. Here on planet earth there is 1 ceiling color and it's white. Why wouldn't you put a white panel on the outside? Primer white at the very least. Plus all the visible bolt heads couldn't be more annoying and were unknown to me until i took it out of the box THAT LACKS A PIC OF THE CLEAN SIDE. When I got this out of the box the day of my install it was obvious that it wasn't built right. The bottom side was wider than the top. I didn't have time to return it so I put it in anyway.

                              Modified for Shorter Ceiling
This is advertised for ceilings 7'8" to 10'3" and my ceiling is barely just 7'! We were nicely able to modify the ladder by removing the lower section and relocating the "feet" from the removed section to the ladder. Everything lined up nicely and the ladder is now perfect for my low ceiling.

Quality control is lacking - a few flaws
I installed last week. Frame came slightly misaligned at corners. Two mount holes are impossible to use unless you have a very long drill bit to pilot the lag bolts. The weather stripping groove should have been 5/64" but was 1/16" - I had to "rout" it out with a 5/64" drill bit + dremel tool; and the groove wasn't low enough, so the weather-stripping hardly seals - so why bother with insulated door? The weather stripping came kinked in a couple of places. The rungs were coated in oil/grease.

                                Overall Product
I had a Werner wooden attic stair that was excellent. I needed to put attic stairs in the hall and chose this product, as it was aluminum and less money. When I go to close it, the hinge is not smooth. And the side that shows to the room is not smooth, but shows all of the metal hardware.

Great Ladder, Great Value--Made it a "Big Foot"
This ladder replaced a 20-year old builder's-grade wooden catastrophe that was improperly installed, scary and needed replacement. This is a rock-solid ladder and orders of magnitude better. I modified it a bit, as I have size 14 boots. The insulation under the ladder is appreciated, but I made footwells to add another 1 1/2" to allow me to stay on the step more securely. I also added an extra hand rail salvaged from the original ladder to add another safety feature.
