They are definitely not blackout. However, they are light filtering. I needed black, so my options were limited. These aren't really that nice either. I bought a double rod and put two pairs on the back, and two on the front, since my entire issue for buying them is for black out. Being that it's hard to find true black-out drapes, this is how I solved the problem.

These curtains are the best. They completely blocked out the sunlight and keep the room so much cooler.

Excellent ..I love my curtains ..I got the Expresso (black out) which is a dark coco brown. They are thick material the black out really does block out the sun..

These curtains are made of sturdy material and block the majority of the light. The only light that really gets in is the light from the sides. These are great.

I had no idea they would be so shiny. Also wish I had gotten ones with grommets instead of this type. Plan to return. That said they do seem like they block out light very well.

I used these curtains as a back drop for our Manger scene in church. They worked perfectly helped to create a perfect back drop for the manger scene. Wonderful product.

I bought these curtains for my son's room. Not only are they attractive, but they completely black out the room. I've tried others that are thinner and still let some light in. These have a thick backing and look very nice.

I was looking for a "real" room-darkening curtain since the sun comes in on that side of the house early in the morning, making it difficult to sleep. These are EXTREMELY dark and fit the bill perfectly. You can't see your hand in front of your face unless the curtain is slightly open in the middle to let light in. Highly recommend this product for anyone looking to darken a room for late sleeping or any other reason.
