The metal stone holder is junk. I kept my stone and holder stored in my garage, dry, away from elements, bought it 04-21, I used it twice before the other evening when I pulled it out and went to extend it, one of the arms snapped off with no effort.

These are great, but I grill a LOT and they seem to only last me about 6 months before they crack. I heat them slowly and take care handling them. Visiongrill has Great customer service and has replace some stones for me. They suggest not letting the droppings build up on the stone when using it as a heat diverter. I'm trying that now. As a pizza stone they are fantastic. I rotate the stones as they crack and use the new stone for pizza and the old pizza stone for heat diverter.

This is a MUST have for a kamado grill. The only reason I did not gave 5 star is because I would prefer it a bit higher from the fire, but anyway, works ferfectly and avoid direct heat (burning) and allows a proper heat distribution inside the kamado grill.

This lava stone does a great job of smoking and making sure your food is cooked evenly. I’ve seared steaks directly on it with no problems. Great product! I love my Vision Kamado.

This lava stone is 100% needed if you want to go indirect. used 2 times so far and works perfectly. This picture shows starting the fire and the bracket that comes with the stone, very high quality here! you can notice i filled the charcoal all the way up to the bottom of this bracket. this was for a 15hr cook i did this past weekend. This is a must have!!!

This cooking stone does not hold up to cooking. I purchased my 1st on in January 2019 and about 1.5 months later it broke into pieces as i scraped some food residue off. Home Depot replaced it and now the same thing happened yesterday 6/14/19, but this time it fell apart when i removed it to put more charcoal in the grill. DO NOT BUY THIS COOKING STONE!!!

Bought this in December, first used it in February. Love my vision grill, smokes great. On the 3rd use, the heat deflector cracked apart simply from heat while inside the grill...dissapointed. 90 day mfg warranty so not sure what to do, spend another $50 to replace it? Honestly it should have come with the drill for $700

Don't waste your $50 on this product. The Vision Grill Dual-Purpose Lava Cooking Stone/Heat Deflector sounds great but it will crack into two parts in short order. I used mine for smoking meats at temps less than 325 and in less than 6 months is cracked into 2 halves. Of course the warranty is only 90 days (what do you expect for a $50 heat deflector stone) and you are better off spending less than $5 on a circular concrete step or other alternative they sell in the HD Lawn and Garden dept.

This lava stone took my already phenomenal Vision Grill and turned it into a true smoker, I cannot elaborate enough on how much I enjoy using this grill. It is safe to say i use it 3-4 times a week. My first two uses, I filled both racks slam full of chicken -- cooked for 2 hours and didn't even touch the food and it turned out AWESOME.

I have only used mine once. Other reviews talk about it cracking, so I am going to put a band on mine before that could become an issue. The only thing I will warn you about is make sure the pizza you are cooking in at least a couple inches less than the stone or you will burn the edges. Even with that the taste of pizza baked on the grill was fantastic.

If the stone cracks go to Home Depot and get two #104 SS clamps 5" to 7" diameter. Unscrew each one, then connect them end to end to form a circle. Clamp them lightly, just enough to hold the pieces in place, around the stone. - Or do as I did and clamp it before it cracks :-)

My first Vision smoker grill so I can't compare this stone to any others. After a few uses it started to crack. I put several pipe clamps around the outside. Seems to be holding up. Tried grilling shrimp directly on the stone surface. Shrimp picked up lots of charred bits from the dirty stone - not easy to clean. I've learned to flip it over after each grill session.

I bought a stone when I bought the Vision Grill. It was the best thing that happened for my cooking! The "flimsy bracket worked just fine, it's just a matter of lowering the stone onto it slowly. I looked into making my own, but the center needs to be almost flush so the stone won't rock. As for the stone cracking in half..mine did too. But I just wrapped it in a couple layers of heavy duty aluminum foil to hold it together. Worked fine, I just had to be careful picking it up. I'm going to buy a new one this weekend to start my "serious grilling" season! Cost was okay for having this for two years now! Makes the cooking absolutely OUT-OF -THIS -WORLD! Ribs, roasts, chicken and steaks slow cooked and smoked with your favorite flavors, you'll have your neighbors knocking on your door!

This cooking stone works great. I have used as a heat deflector for ribs and a cooking stone for pizza. I found it was easier to use a pizza pan on top of the stone to prevent burnt crust. This works just as well as my dad's big green egg but the vision classic b is half the price. The cooking stone is a great addition!

I have used the heat deflector for one long smoke and a few pizzas so far and it does the job. Very thick and heavy stone. The only drawback so far is that the screw on the bottom of the rack seems to loosen very easily an you have to keep an eye on it between use. I have not used the stone as a direct cooking stone yet and keep it wrapped in foil so far just to stay clean.

This grill stone worked great for about a year, but yesterday when I went to cook some ribs it split down the middle. It still worked in 2 pieces and my ribs came out perfectly, but I'm ordering a replacement today. Maybe one year is its expected life, but for $50 bucks, I expected more. It was not dropped or mishandled. I'm still recommending this product because it did work well and I could not find another substitute replacement on-line.

Like others have said the deflector does it's job.... have used for blacken tilipia, slow smoked ribs and pork butt.. I hopefully will not have a issue with the metal holder of the deflector because it's not the thickest of metal.. but it works

Stone allows for indirect cooking on kamado. A must have. Very heavy and durable.

I purchased this so I could cook indirect. It works perfectly! The stone is very thick and does what it says. My only concern might be the bracket that suspends the stone. It is very flimsy and I'm not sure how it will hold up long term. This is a must accessory if you want to cook with the big boys!

Vision was out of cooking stones when I bought their grill at Home Depot so I had to wait a couple of weeks before I could get one. It was well worth the wait. It transformed my grill into an oven, smoker and slow cooker. I have smoked a chicken, three pork shoulders, two racks of ribs and a beef brisket. It fit perfectly beneath the grill and worked great as a heat deflector allowing me to cook the meats slowly with hickory charcoal. My family and neighbors love the results and ask for more. I am very happy with the product and Home Depot's service.

Works great as a heat diffuser when smoking or looking to do indirect heat. To use it as a pizza stone is DA BOMB! My kids are moaning with how great the pizza comes out. Heat that sucker up to 500 degrees and in 8-10 minutes you will have the best pizza in town. We now have pizza once a week. Don't waste your money at those coal or wood fired joints, do it a home!

The pizza stone is fantastic. It arrived well package and ready to use. I have not tried to use it to slow cook by using the provided attachment to lower the stone below the grate so I can't comment on how that works. However, when placed on the grill the stone allows you to cook a pizza evenly with a nice crisp golden brown crust every time. No issues with burning or under cooking the dough or other ingredients. I found an easy pizza crust dough online and put it on a pizza pan with holes (I did not know how to make a pizza that I could place on the stone directly). The stone is thick enough to allow a pan to clear the grill handles on the Vision Grills bbq that I bought this for so it sits nice and flat. The first pizza I did had a nice smokey flavour but the second while still great lacked the smokiness. I think I had allowed the grill to heat up too long to have any smoke left for the second pizza. If you have one of the Vision Grills BBQs that does not include the stone do your self a favour and buy this. It makes a great pizza.

The only problem with this product is the HD doesn't give a very good or complete description of it. The stone is shipped with a metal frame that drops the stone below the grilling surface. Perfect for indirect cooking. You can also use it as an additional surface to grill on directly. The main reason is to direct the heat to the outside of the chamber. It might also be used to grill steaks on at lower setting(meaning closer to the fire), for more searing capability. If you have a Vision grill you need this to be able utilize all the variable cooking styles with a ceramic cooker. The reason for the 4 stars on quality is the metal frame.

If your bracket is rusted and broken like mine, then you don’t have much of an option on replacing bracket without buying stone and bracket together. Vision grills will not sell you bracket alone and must buy stone also. Stone is what it is…I use $5 14 inch pizza pan for deflector since stones only last a year or so before heat cracking.
