It works
This is a more affordable way to purchase this product, instead of the individual 11 pound packages. You will need more than you think since 11 pounds will only fill about six holes 1.5-inch in diameter by 16 inches deep. It is difficult to NOT spill some when filling the holes because of overfilling. Using a big funnel helps and drilling vertical holes is best. Rewetting any holes that did not fracture with more water and giving it a second day to work is effective and worth the wait.

Works for large or small jobs
We drilled about 3,500' of holes and used this cracking agent to cube up a lot of very hard Sierra Granite into 1x1x1-3' blocks. It works as advertised. Just stick to the recommended temperature range.

    Great product
Dexpan is a great product! It was easy to use, it worked quickly and it saved a lot of money. I had a small cement pad in my back yard and it was covered with dirt. I couldn't get anything grow there. I thought it was about 42" x 60" and about 4" thick. After removing the dirt off the top and sides, the pad was 60" x 168" and 9" thick. I got an estimate for removing it for $1500. I saw someone using Dexpan in a TV show and thought I can do that. I bought a masonry drill, rented a big hammer drill and bought Dexpan. I saved over $1150. Next Spring I will use Dexpan to remove a 65 year old cement front porch. I will save over $3200 doing that rather than paying some to do it.

I wouldn't recommend this for making a big hole in bedrock. I was trying to make a 16" diameter post hole 36" deep in solid limestone. I spoke with Dexpan and a local seller to get a drill pattern and how many holes to fill. After spending many hours drilling holes, I filled several as recommended and waited 24 hours to check the results. The top couple inches cracked and that was it. No results. I think the would work great for breaking rock but can't recommend it to make a hole.

Worked as directed, although you have to add more water than it says, but just enough to pour. It stiffens fast, but use the cutoff neck of a plastic gallon milk jug as a funnel- this stuff is sluggish until it hits the poly, and whoosh- down the hole. Takes overnight to see the results.I drilled 1 1/4" holes 8" deep in rock and it was fine- split the faces right off.

Bought 2 boxes of Dexpan II to breakup some cement steps and porch. It was 76 deg outside temp and figured it was within the temp range. The cement ended up being hotter and had several blowouts and I figured it was going to be a loss. Went to bed and got up to find the entire 9 steps plus 36 sq ft porch all cracked and broken. I was very impressed and relieved. I let it set one more day and even got more movement out of it.

      This stuff is amazing.
My local rental yard recommended Dexpan for my project, since i was damaging there demo hammer points. I went online and found that Home Depot carried it, so i ordered it, it came sooner than quoted. It was very easy to mix up and pour in, we were on the job for 40 minutes, cleaned up and left. Came back the next day to find half a dozen 4' diameter boulders broken into pieces we could man handle out of the swimming pool we're remodeling. I'm very pleased with the outcome and will consider this product from now on for all of my demo projects. Thanks Dexpan

Doing addition in Grand Lake and hit a massive rock. Used 44lbs, mixed one bag at a time w 61/4 c water as instructed, drilled 4 feet holes, that's the hardest part, and filled each hole. Waited only 16 hours and the rock cracked so we could remove with backhoe. The crazy thing is, it continued to crack after it was removed. Stuff worked for us and at this cost, it is worth a try, right?

This product is awesome! I'm drilling 1 1/2" holes 18" deep in hard blue granite rock (old headstone mine) Anywhere between 6 hours on softer rock to 24 hours on the hard blue rock visible cracks show up. In 72 hours those same cracks are >3/4" and some up to 1" wide. I use a backhoe to remove those rocks and drill again. I have broken up at least 50 ton of rock that was in the middle of my property. I have gained 1/4 of an acre of usable land! Its actually fun to use this product!

I had a rock, aprox 12' X 12', who knows how deep, that I needed to remove part of for drainage. It was next to a building so blasting was out of the question. I had heard about Dexpan and tried it using a 2' drill. I started with drilling and filling 4 holes and was skeptical that this could actually break up solid rock. The next day when I looked at it, I could not believe how well it had worked. It had cracked in many directions from the holes and I easily removed the first couple feet of rock with my backhoe and repeated this process until the rock was down to where I needed it. This product was very easy to use and did what it claimed. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to break up rock or concrete.

Works great, just wish there was a way to have used it on thinner slab as well. Slab was 24' x 24' and averaged 12" on outside and tapered to average of 5" about 14" into center. Started with concrete saw (useless), then hand sledge, then found out about Dexpan. Drilled dozens of 3/4" holes only to find they needed to be 1 1/2". Rented larger drill and punched holes along perimeter. Then rented jack hammer to finish up thinner center and larger pieces that I did not drill for Dexpan. Ordered the 44 pound package and it was not enough. Ended up getting another 11 pound bag to finish the job. Very impressed with how fast the product arrived after ordering and Michael at Dexpan was very helpful when I contacted the company with questions. The only very small problem I had was that the "slurry" kept trying to settle and I had to stir it after pouring each hole.

This is a follow up to my first review when I had received but not used the product. This product is amazing. The hardest part is drilling the holes (very dusty). Destruction of my concrete stairs was complete. I followed the instructions as close to the letter as possible and the product delivered. My steps did have some 1/2 inch horizontal rebar which was no problem.

This product is amazing! No doubt, if I knew of another way to break a boulder tyrant doesn't require any effort, I'd have gone that way. But otherwise, this is the next best thing. The hard part is the drilling these 1 1/2" holes. Once you pour this in the holes, it'll take 4 to 6 hours to see the beginning of the cracks. However, this just keeps on working. After a couple of days, the crack is now much longer and wider. And the boulder I worked on must have weighed well over 5000 lbs. I only saw a portion of it as mosy of it was buried in the ground and what I saw was about 6 feet long and 2 feet wide.

I used it for an rock removal application in New England in early June. The Type 3 as well as Type 2 performed the same, it is not the air temperature but the rock temperature which I believe impacts the performance. I observed if the sun is not beating down on the rock and warming it up the time it takes to cure and crack is tripled. I also noted it helps to water the drilled holes as it cures otherwise it powders.

This is a great product. The box contains four, 11lb bags. I was drilling 1.5" holes, 18" deep. Each 11lbs bag would fill just about 6 holes. I'm breaking up large blue granite boulders that are still in the ground, and Dexpan has been able to fracture these no problem. You can even go much larger than the suggested spacing, but the individual pieces get larger. Fractures start as early as 24 hours, but I find that if you wait a full week, the gaps become larger, and make removal/separation easier.

After tearing down an 85' x 30' shed I was faced with breaking up 3' x 2' concrete stem walls. Sledgehammer did the trick breaking up a little less than half. The other half was so hard I could do little more than chip it with a 16 lb sledgehammer and in the process of drilling I broke two 1" SDS+ bits. It took almost 1 week for the Dexpan to pop apart the two "test" slabs I had drilled. This was likely due to user error. I poured the Dexpan during a stretch of 30 degree days. What I did not see in my initial reading of the directions is the operating temperature range is the temperature of the stone, not the atmosphere. Thinking it had failed and being short on time I purchased 3 sets of wedges and feathers to complete the job. Much to my surprise upon arriving at the job site a week later the first two blocks had finally cracked. A little work with a prybar to pull the pieces apart was all it took. The product shipped as four 11 lb bags which in turn were in a larger bag. My only complaint is the 11lb bags are fairly weak. One bag had burst during shipping. Were it not for the second, heavier bag, I would have had to write off 11lbs. Easy to use, requires a fair amount of patience (especially if you make the mistake I did), and gets the job done.

                    Dexpan works as advertised.
It's not perfectly clear what temperature to use it. I realize it says 50 to 77 degrees. Does that mean it has to stay above 50 degrees at night since it takes about 3 days for it to work? I wait until it's in the range day and night and it works as advertised. I'm breaking up two swimming pools.

                    Dexpan is AMAZING!
I have a set of outdoor concrete steps in my house that had to go.... sledgehammers, chisels, hammer drill chisel.... did nothing but aggravate me! My next step was a jackhammer until I found out about Dexpan. A little more than halfway done and the hardest part is drilling the holes and clean up. It's quite satisfying leaving the Dexpan to do it's work and coming back the next day to some nice deep cracks!! Love it and have recommended this product to several people already!

                    Dexpan Expansive Demolition Grout
I purchased this product here in the USA to be used on a renovation job in the Caribbean (not sold there). It worked great but don't try to pack in your carry-on. Also you need to check the (temperature TYPE) rating depending on where you will be using it. Follow instructions on how it works as you should. Main thing to remember is giving free space for the product to do its job (expand). Additional holes or digging around rock is very helpful. Get enough of the material as it doesn't go very far. I used 8 11# bags in about 200+ holes 1" 1/2w x 9-10'' deep. In the end - this product works GREAT!! Reduces hours upon hours of jackhammering.

                    Retaining wall demo
Product works beyond expectation. I'm removing 80' or 8"x 48" reinforced retaining wall. It's made the job so much easier. Drill, pour, wait a couple days, and pick up the pieces and move on. I have used both a hammer drill and a core drill and have gotten the same results. 1",1-1/8, and 1-1/2 bits. I highly recommend this product if your cheap like me and can't fathom renting machinery or having someone else do the work. 40' down 55lbs used an 40' to go.
