Sturdy and good size. Lid is a little difficult to open with foot peddle but ok once you get used to it.

I like this line of trash cans for kitchen use. It's durable with good lines, easy to use, and keeps odors sealed. The 24-gal is on the large side and the lid, even when opened with the foot pedal, is somewhat heavy. The 12-gal may be more appropriate for average households. I deducted one star because there are four holes in each bottom corner. It came with metal snap-in pieces to "plug" them, but without a gasket or other leak-proof seal, a ripped trash bag may still = leaks. This Defenders trash can did not come with a plastic basket liner.
