Lovely wood and lovely cedar smell. The nesting box came with two screws and a wooden peg about 2 1/2" long. It took me a minute to determine that the wooden peg was supposed to go into the hole drilled on the right side of the box to hold the door closed. Not a great idea! The peg was very difficult to insert and I should have abandoned the idea to use it because the peg got stuck just far enough in where the front door was nailed shut. When I tried to pull the peg out, it broke off. I had to get a small drill and drill the peg out so the front door could open. Best NOT to use that plug and instead use a square bend screw hook or something similar. I bought this nesting box based on the previous positive reviews. I want to do the right thing for the birds that use these boxes, so I did a little research. I read on the Cornell University website nestwatch.org that a good nesting box should have a 2-4" overhang on the front and 2" overhang on the side as well as 4 drain holes. Ideal interior dimensions should be 5-1/4" X 5-1/4" X 8". This box is 3-1/2" X 4" X 7-3/4", has only 2 drain holes, and the roof has a 1" overhang on the front and 1/8" on the sides. Would I recommend this product? The box is nice enough but for $20.00, I could build one with the correct specs. It would be great if the folks who build these boxes considered making these simple design improvements.

I love this bird house. It is well made. We only just put it up so I have to give it time to see if we actually get some residents. It came with the hardware but we needed longer screws. We mounted it to a tree and they weren't long enough to penetrate the tree.

Nice birdhouse! Birds found it the day we installed it. Well made and easy to open to clean.

This bird house has all the right specs, it came with hanging hardware and will weather nicely. The price was very reasonable also.
