This is the third Casablanca Isotope I've installed in my house and they are about the best fan you can buy. Best for quality and best for longevity. Casablanca is a high end brand of Hunter fan. Even though the fan comes with a wall control, I replaced the Casablanca control with a Lutron Model MACL-LFQH-WH (SKU 1002761017). I did this; 1) because I wanted to standardize my whole house on Lutron switches and controls, 2) because this Lutron fan/light wall control is a standard that has been around for many years and will be around for many more, and 3) because, unlike most fans now, the control isn't built into the fan electronics and the Isotope control module can be easily and safely replaced in the wall end of the fan. Isotope and Lutron are a winner combination and one that will give years of service AND will have support in the future should something go wrong. Most fan companies these days change controls often but if the control modules are built-in and die, there's a good chance you will have to have to replace the whole fan.

I never actually installed the fan. I wanted to keep the fan as I expected it to be a great fan but when I realized that the remote wall switch needed to be removed from the wall to replace the batteries It requires, I wasn’t happy with this so I returned the fan.

Fan itself was great and easy to install. Only complaint is that you have to install the switch that comes with the fan and cannot use yours existing LED switch. For me this was an issue because the Casablanca switch only comes in white and all my current switches are light almond.

Why do you have a remote that uses batteries that is installed inside the switch where there is 120 volt power? The switch has 120 power going to it (and there are batteries!) Really dumb. The remote switch does not fit in a 2 gang metal mud ring. Really dumb. The instructions are poor. Really dumb. I would never buy this fan again, even if it was $20 bucks.

You're correct. The wall control is wireless, while you can hook up wires to complete the circuit to the fan, the wall control does not receive power through these. This reduces issues associated with power surges and reduces the need for wiring in places that don't have the wiring set up. ~Kevin HunterFans

      Serious design flaws
This fan has a lot of potential, but seriously missed the mark on quality control and features. Straight out of the box, the fan housing had a significant wobble to it. After several hours of disassembling and reassembling the main housing, it was fixed by installing some oversized washers behind the rubber grommets that hold the main fan ring in place. This tightened everything up and brought the wobble within acceptable levels (from 3” of wobble at the blade tips down to less than 1/4”). The next design flaw is the wall ‘remote’ which in my opinion is completely useless. The buttons are way too small for normal use. To bypass this, I rewired the main controller and split the light power and fan power into two normal wall switches. The remote was then tossed into a drawer and only used to change the fan speed. The last issue I have with the fan is the light. The design focuses the light in a downward direction, causing the corners of the room to be darker. The bulbs are E11 halogen bulbs that get extremely hot very quickly. At the price point of the fan, I would expect it to have LED’s built in. After everything is said and done, I’m happy with the performance of the fan. If I had known before hand how much of a pain this unit is to setup properly, I probably wouldn’t have bought it.

      Disappointed. Especially for the price
Purchased the fan online. It arrived to the house with the packaging undamaged. -Installation hardware is very cheap. The two long wood support screws stripped, and one bent when screwing into the 2x4 support beam above the electrical box. -The housing feels solid, but when I manually rotated the fan ring before installing the blades, there was already a wobble to it. The wobble got worse after the blades were installed. I tried balancing the blades but it didn't have any effect. -One of the two halogen bulbs was broken upon arrival. At this price point, I expected more than two tiny E11 halogen bulbs. -The wall 'remote' is battery powered (despite being installed into the switch receptacle), and poorly designed. The buttons are too small for normal use, and it's an ivory colour. In order to turn the light on and off, you have to find the very tiny round button in the middle of the controller without pushing any of the buttons around it. If you push more than one button at a time (because your fingers are larger than a toddlers), the unit freezes and stops responding. Overall: The fan is very powerful and quiet. It can only be heard on the highest setting. Unfortunately it's plagued with design flaws and cheap parts. First thing on my to do list tomorrow is take down the unit and return it to the store.

I bought the prior version of this fan and found that the remote controls experienced a ton of interference from the same fan being installed in the next room. One day the fan in room #1 would work, while the fan in room #2 would not work. Then the next day, the situation would be reversed. Clearly they did not design the wireless remote well since it failed to maintain a connection with the fan on so many occasions. It was a huge problem - we'd turn a fan on and then not be able to turn it off for days. I went through the nightmare of Casablanca / Hunter customer service. I called tons of times, would get their voicemail, and even had some reps hang up on me when they realized how bad my situation was. They finally agreed to send me replacement receivers. When I installed the replacement receivers, they didn't work. They also appeared to be the same as the receivers that were already installed in the fan. Fast forward: I return all the fans and then read that Casablanca has redesigned this model and now has a brand new receiver and a switch that can cut power to the fan. I go out and buy 3 more of these, thinking they've got to be improved after all the negative feedback they received about the switches. Sure enough, they did install a hard power cut-off in the new switch, which means you can always kill power to the fan if it's not responding to the remote switch. However I was disappointed to see that even in the new model, the switch fails to communicate with the fan often. I learned that if you hold your hand over the switch, your body can act as an antenna and increase the chances of it communicating properly. The batteries for the remote switch require you to remove the switch from the wall to change the Overall - it's a horribly designed system that is extremely prone to failure. It's not the quality or functionality you'd expect from a $400 fan

This product looks great, but the wall control is unreliable. For four days I have been unable to turn the ceiling fan off. During the last heat wave, I could not turn the fan on. I have tried to contact Hunter Douglas to find what the problem is and all I get is a recording, no way to contact a person. I have decided to just let let the fan run until the motor burns out. This is so upsetting.

Looks great. Installation was a bit troublesome. The slotted screw holes in the motor housing aren't long enough. When you try and install the other two screws the holes don't line up. I had to elongate the slotted holes. That made the installation more difficult.

The fan remote did not work. I called customer support (Mon- Fri by the way, no weekend support) and received a new remote. It still didn't work. Returned the fan to Home Depot, got my money back, and bought an old style Hunter pull chain fan. It worked with no problems.

The worse HD purchase Ive ever made
I purchased 7 of these based on its looks, very nice looking ceiling fan. I have had nothing but quality issues with them, all of them. They've sent out repair guys three separate times, plus two more repairs for their recall issues. The company is the WORST to try to deal with as they transfer you department to department and never want to take responsibility for the hardware and programming issues with their product. Three times I've had issues with the remotes not working properly (one issue still unresolved) and the company now says they will cover the cost of materials if any but not labor to fix it again??? Is that a joke? Avoid this company on the whole as their product lacks quality and you will be living nightmares trying to get them to fix their issues.

                Great ceiling fan!
I bought two fans - one for each bedroom. I had a friend help me install them and it was very straight-forward. My only complaint may be that the light is not as bright as I would like. Perhaps a different bulb would help. Other than that, they are fantastic. I've already received several compliments.

Nice white ceiling fan w/light installed in master bedroom
The ceiling fan is beautiful but was overly costly, in my opinion. We were looking for a white celing fan w/light & remote for the master bedroom (tray ceiling), but wanted a more modern fan than those we saw in the stores. It seems like the more modern white fans are more difficult to find in the stores, where we mostly found the schoolhouse, old fashioned white ceiling fans. We ended up ordering online. The fan is very quiet & very attractive, however, the remote is a wall remote- & we'd overlooked this feature when it was ordered. We had our professional electrician install it. He was able to do so but said it was a little more involved that the other fans he'd installed for us (we just recently moved into new construction home). Even though the fan is very nice, I may not have ordered it had I paid attention to the wall remote feature, because who wants to get out of bed to operate a remote? As instructed w/installation directions provided, our electrician installed the remote in the light switch plate. He had to actually replace old plate with a new plate due to the new configeration. It looks very cool; but again, just not practical for when you're in bed & just want to turn on/off the fan.

                Can't review - fan doesn't work.
The remote did not work when installed and replacement remote is on backorder and will not be available until the end of May, 2013. Very disappointed, especially since I will have to pay additional electrician fees to have another remote installed (if I ever receive). So I guess I can't really give a review, other than my fan doesn't work.
