Love it! Way better than other stains. Not messy at all. More of a stain and paint blend!

I cannot give five stars because that would depend on its longevity. It covers well and waterproof better than expected. Easy to apply. On rough cut fence boards you will not get the listed coverage per gallon.

We thought it would last for at least couple years but the stain started peeling less than 12 months. So disappointed and do not recommend. Such a waste of our $$.

I ordered two gallons of Chatham Fog Solid Color House and Fence Exterior Wood Stain. It looked very light in the can, but I thought it might darken as it dried. It did not :(

I bought many other paint colors before finally trying this one. It’s a nice light brown and very solid color.

The website didn't offer the stuff I used 5 years ago; big difference! You can see in the photos (6 panels on upper right side)the stain is completely different from what I used in the past. Crying.

I used an HVLP sprayer to apply this to my fence and it turned out perfect! Great coverage and beautiful color. I did 2 thin coats and made sure to back brush.

I am in love with my fence, and that isn’t something I expected to say when we first moved into our home. The contrast of this bold dark color to our furniture and plants really makes the place feel more updated and blocks it off so that it doesn’t just look like a part of the neighborhood. While dark grey or black fences aren’t for everyone, my wife loves this color and told me she wished she would have let me do this earlier. We have received a lot of compliments over this shade and will absolutely enjoy this over the long term. I’ve included some photos of before and after. Still a WIP and only a single coat so far but you can tell the difference it makes. Try a small sample first before you commit. Easy to apply, washes off your hands easily, but make sure to keep the ground protected with a plastic sheet. 5 gallons should be more than enough for a small back yard. I may have extra after this project!

You can see from the photos the fence was not in the greatest condition, and I was hoping this Behr solid color stain would buy me a few more years. The results exceeded my expectations - I applied a single coat as I wanted some of the character and grain of the wood to show (I also didn't want to spend another $120 for more paint). I used a roller and brush and finished the whole thing - about 100' of 6' tall fence - in a few hours, and still have almost a gallon left over. Although it's an oil based stain, it cleans up with soap and water. It's only been a few weeks, but so far it has been through blazing sunshine, extreme humidity, drenching downpours, hail and a tornado warning and still looks like the day I rolled it on. I've seen several reviews that mention it looks "orange", but it looks pretty much like new cedar to me. Perhaps it gets a bit more orange with a second coat, but I like the color and so has everyone who's seen it.

This has become my go- to, signature color. Rich but also subtle, it blends perfectly with our wooded setting, while looking sophisticated at the same time. I first used it on the back deck railing but I’ve since used it in several other places and it always looks great. In the photo, it is on the deck railing and the deck floor is “Boot Hill Grey.”

Great coverage and very consistent color!

When purchasing at the home depot I asked if I could tint the stain, and they said yes! Choose 2 gallons and added the color SLATE (SC-102). Gallon 1 went on smooth. Went to use can 2 a year later and there was a lot of gunk in the can, my drill attachment paint mixer did not break it up. I had to strain the paint. I applied with a sprayer.

Took me some time to get the work started to stain our fence. I did wash the fence with BEHR cleaning fluid and low pressure wash before i start staining. Moreover waited for the fence to be dry to start staining. The color is bright and I love it. As the fence was drying, I noticed that there were brown/yellow patches coming up. I did try to double or triple thin coat over it, but the patch would just become more prominent. I am not sure why this is happening but it does not look professional. The fence is about a year old cedar and i used a paint sprayer and then roller/brush to even things out. Stain was used as is without any dilution.

Behr solid white wood stain is by far the best solid white stain I have found for fences, and I have tried many over the span of many years of horse ownership. Don't use paint for fences -- it will start to crack and peel in short order; solid stain is by far better, and it's easy to touch up if you need to. I have long stretches of paddock fencing for my horses, and it's a major deal to have to refinish it all. Behr Solid Stain goes on very white (see photo), stays white (does not yellow or fade) and lasts a very long time. It's very reasonably priced, especially in the 5 gal tubs, it covers really well and, since it lasts a long time (my last was about 10 years), it's even more economical. If you don't want white, it comes in other colors or can be tinted. Highly recommended.

I used to re-stain the plywood soffits and Fascias on my garage. and the Cypress 1x6 T&G soffit over my front stoop of the house. So I used it horizontally but on the under side of the soffits so it is not exposed to foot traffic. I would have used it on my house too, but you took 3 weeks to get it to me and the rainy season in Miami was getting ready to start. So I bought Ben Moore horizontal rated (thicker) solid stain locally in one day to get going on the house. The Ben Moore covers better and cost me $52/gal/. Your original invoice had a price of $28/gal, but your final invoice to me was lowered to contractor price I guess of $22/gal. I am a retired construction professional (29 years as VP Const for Graham Companies of Miami Lakes) but you did not know that. Our Maint Engineers have Home Depot cards. I like the color of Behr better (lighter) and I like the fact that the Behr has an oil component penetrates and smells better like oil but is surprisingly soap and water clean up. The Behr did not cover as well as the Ben Moore so I used two quick coats. The first coat penetrated and dried quickly allowing me to add the second coat as i progressed. I will try to attach before and after photos of the Behr stain on the soffits.

Our fence was looking really bad so i decided to stain it white.....Love it did the job!

This review is for Slate Solid Color stain (sc-102). We have a 13 year old privacy fence that we wanted to extend its life. It was previously stained a cedar color so we weren’t sure how it would cover. We had it power washed and cleaned, and tried to get off as much of the vine leftovers that had clung on for years. We also had a shorter non-stained fence which we also stained with this color. Everything needed two coats, but the previously stained wood was more difficult to cover, but in the end both fences turned out awesome. I spent so much time trying to find the right charcoal color and this was it. It’s hard to tell from photos. In the sun it looks more charcoal, and in the shade it looks darker—almost black. The foliage contrasts nicely against this color. As others have mentioned, the color surprisingly blends into the environment. Would definitely use again!

Went on good covered in 2 coats. Will definitely buy this again for my deck..

I purchased 2 5 gallon containers of Behr House and Fence Wood Stain the color I choose was a perfect match . We used a high powered spray gun to apply and unfortunately within 2 days after drying the stain started to peel off as if it was latex paint. We are now having to pressure wash both decks again and choose a different product. Very dissatisfied with product and will never purchase again.

Covers well. Painted the fence, window boxes, a wooden bench, and rails of deck. This is the second time I used this stain for these. First time lasted 5 years before I had to paint again, except for the bench. The bench needed to be painted every year or two. The vertical surfaces (fence and rails) still looked pretty good after the five years. Stain holds up well over time.

Beautiful color and easy to apply.

The color is really what I wanted. My fence looks really beautiful. It's not finished yet because I run out of paint. But I still love it the finishing work will be soon and in two colors gray and white.

Excellent coverage and adherence paint even for an old fence.

We bought a house with a deck that was in terrible shape. Since we cannot rebuild it this summer, I decided to patch and paint it. I bought Behr Solid Color stain because it is opaque and lets nothing of the ugly patched wood show through. It covers thoroughly, has uniform color, dries fast, and prevents water from getting into the wood. It is thicker than a wood oil, and it is not drippy or sloppy, it is easy to apply. I was very happy with the result on a deck that was really hardly worth saving.
