Modern Connected A/C Unit
I read some indifferent reviews on this product but I found the unit to be modern, attractive and works great with the Wink home system. Unlike traditional A/C units the air output is from the top but is angled not straight up which gives a great overflow of cool air. Only one issue I came across related to the components included, there were two retaining strips which did not appear in the instructions. These actually slide down on either side of the unit to retain the screen, they are a very tight fit.

Stopped cooling during first season of use!
Purchased last July. Because of remodeling it took until this Spring to be installed. I love the idea, the app control, and the look. The noise doesn't bother me because its more powerful than my old unit. But now my old unit is doing all the work because this device no longer blows cold air. I am in the process of contacting Quirky about getting it replaced.

    I've had two units for two years now and I am remarkably pleased with the performance and reliability of the unit and the integrated apps on my phone and Wink relay!

      AC WORKED FOR ONE SEASON AND BROKE ON THE HOTTEST DAY.
      BOUGHT IN SUMMER OF 2015. WORKED GOOD FORST YEAR. INSTALLED IT FOR SUMMER OF 2016 WORKED FOR 1 WEEK AND STOPPED COOLING REMOVED FRONT COVER AND FOUND ICE FORMING INSIDE AND THEN IT BRAKES OFF AND HITS THE FAN AND SHOOTS OUT OF THE VENT. AC NO LONGER COOLS JUS MAKES ICE INSIDE. WORST AC I EVER OWNED.

      Had this ac for over a year it cools my whole apartment over 1000 square feet. On Eco mode electric bill has not increased too much.

        Does the job, but wouldn't buy it again
        A little late with this review, since I bought this unit 2 years ago. It works well enough to cool off my small bedroom and hallway. However, the display lights are so BRIGHT I have to tape multiple pieces of paper over them (like little flaps) so I can sleep at night. Considering part of the reason I liked this AC was its sleek design, I was pretty annoyed. App connected to the device but doesn't accurately represent the room temp or whether the AC is on/off (so you don't actually know if you're turning it on or off remotely, on your way home from work perhaps). If the box wasn't already tossed, I would have returned this AC.

          Quirky went bankrupt Nov 2015 so how do get support?
          I bought this unit from Home Depot online because it was a great price and thought the features were a good idea. I have literally turned this unit on 25 times since I bought it and it has quit cooling. Under normal circumstances I would return it and get it replaced but I am told they went bankrupt (I looked it up and it was well before I bought it) so no warrantee? I feel ripped off.

              Great Air Conditioner!
              We can put men on the moon but can't figure out how to build a quiet air conditioner. This one is the quietest I have ever come across and in every other way it is an excellent buy. I will be purchasing another one. You don't get the cycle noise of the compressor kicking in. It is an even hum. After a month, it learns how you use it and programs it self. It is a high quality appliance. A lot of thought went into making it. It is worth the price and has a lot of nice features. I recommend this air conditioner. I won't buy another brand after purchasing this one.

              Awsome unit
              this unit is awesome I little loud but for the price you can't except to have it all this machine was easy to install and quickly cooled down my 2 rooms in my house , with the use of small stand fan it will cool the whole main floor great buy would of gave it 5 stars however do to the loud fan noise I only gave 4 all in all very good buy for the money

              Does not blow out cool air
              I bought this trying to fill up our attic bedroom, air blows out the top and it won't fill up the room. Will be returning

                It is louder than the 10 year old air conditioner it is replacing. The temp setting lights on the front of it and the blinking light in the center do make great night lights, if that is what you want. Now this is my fault, I did not research the item before I purchased it. I assumed that there would be a dedicated remote for the A.C. However, there is not. BUT you can download an app for your smartphone. Now here is the issue, 1) not everyone has a smart phone. 2) Not everyone who has a smart phone wants to take it to bed w/ them to control the A.C. 3) If you do sleep w/ you smart phone, do you want to locate the app in the middle of the night to adjust your A.C. or would you be happy picking up a remote and doing you adjustment. I prefer a dedicated remote over an app.

                Despise it after less than 24 hours
                We bought this yesterday and felt it was a solid option because it was made by GE and could be controlled with a smart phone. We bought an 8,000 BTU which is plenty big enough for the size of our bedroom. No air blows directly forward from this unit , it is diverted to the top and sides. We had it on high and lowest temperature setting and I still woke up in the middle of the night because I was hot. I can't get the unit to connect to WiFi, so the smart phone controlling option is off the table. WORST OF ALL, the controls and (very large) temperature display are back-lit by bright blue lights. It illuminates the bedroom beyond all that is reasonable. Seriously... it is like having a night light on! We're going to try to cover up the blue lights with duct tape... won't that look nice?! My husband broke the box down, or else this would be going back to Home Depot.

                Best AC EVER!
                I have a few of these. they have functioned flawlessly and do a great job. I control them all in a group from the app and it works just like central A/C. Can't say enough good things about it. Don't listen to the bad reviews! They're doing it wrong if they don't like them.

                  dont work ...plus it is toooooo loud and after some week was good now it shut off all the time ... i try to reset it and still with the problem . wanna lose money buy this

                    NO WARRANTY OR REPAIR SUPPORT!!
                    Had installed for 8 months. Then it just died, still under warranty. Phone is disconnected and they do not respond to emails. It is now a BOAT ANCHOR !!!

                    Works Well So Far......
                    It is louder than my previous 5000 BTU unit but it is constant and I quickly got used to it. The vents pointing straight up do seem a bit strange but the room is cooled effectively. A deflector can be cheaply purchased if necessary. It does what it says and the app works great.

                        So sleek and modern looking
                        Love the way this ac unit looks in my window. So high tech and pricey looking, but better than the looks is the way this unit performs! My only complaint about it is the side pieces that block the window (the shades) I get that they tried to update the sliding slats like in the older units, but because they are just shades that clip on two hooks there's still a space for the air to go out the window. Other than that I would say this unit is perfect! Haven't used the Bluetooth option on my phone but sure it works great

                          AROS Air Conditioner
                          This is a great air conditioner made by GE. Cools as advertised and has a great look to it. I like the way air is directed up and out, it seems to circulate better. Setting it up to the Wink app takes a little bit, about 2 - 3 times before getting it connected but after connection and showing in the App, you are in control of when and how it runs. You can also set schedules or have the Wink shortcuts activate it to change temp as needed. Currently have 4 of these units running and love them.

                          TERRIBLE!!! I'm not an angry customer, just want to warn you against this model.
                          Never worked right. Purchased this for the remote access - never worked once! After about 3 weeks of working and blowing moderately cool air its now just blowing the outside air in. It has become a very expense (and heavy) window fan. Returning today. I'll do better research next time.

                          Not the greatest
                          People either think this unit is very loud or the same as every other window AC. this is much louder than a brand new 6000 BTU GE from home depot. The ECO feature is worthless, when it hits the desired temp it shuts off for 2 - 3 seconds then comes right back on with just the fan running. I think the GE does a much better job cooling. The App is a neat feature but having a remote would be nice also. a handful of times it didn't do what I wanted it to via smartphone. Because of the noise and in my bedroom I will be returning it for another GE. Save a few bucks and get the 6000 BTU GE.

                          worst ac ever
                          Do not buy for a bedroom! Noisy, noisy, noisy. Must run on high fan setting to cool the room. Low setting noise level still very loud. Energy save setting cycles on and off way to often. Can't direct air flow (not adjustable). Two parts needed to attach side panels not listed in directions and difficult to attach. Can't think of a single redeeming value. HD did take it back without any trouble. Thank you return desk people.

                          GE Quirky 8,000 BTU Air Conditioiner
                          The worst window air conditioner I have every purchased. Used it for only one night in the bedroom and returned it the next morning. Extremely loud, even on the lowest setting. The LED blue lights on the front were so bright you could read a book by it. The conditioned air vent could not be changed and it aimed up to the ceiling only. The app-enabled feature is a waste when the air condition runs so loudly that you can't sleep, the LED lights light up the room at night and are not adjustable, and the vent cannot be directed anywhere but up to the ceiling. Why would any company manufacturer such a poor air conditioner? Do not buy this product!

                          Loud Loud Loud!!!!!!
                          It's a nice Ac with the functions wink so u can control anywhere cellphone service is available I do like the fact I can turn it on so when I get home it's nice in cool but the reason why I am gonna bring it back its to loud sound like you are flying jet even if u lower to low settings it's to loud my wife couldn't hear the baby crying in the other room I strongly not recommend this product

                            Poor instructions and Does Not Seal into Window
                            I was really excited in my purchase until I got home and started putting it together. There was a step in the instructions that was missing for the AC curtain frame. After putting together the AC, the AC Curtain DOES NOT SEAL at all. There was no point of even having a AC curtain because the air flow would just leak outside and bugs could easily make their way in. Needless to say it was returned same day. No problems in the return process, good customer service provided by Home Depot. Just upset that they would put such a bad product on the shelves.

                            Love it so far
                            The only reason to buy this air-conditioner is for the connectivity it offers. It is the only smart air conditioner on the market which makes it a no brainier if that's your thing. You control the air-conditioner with your phone and the app is pretty cool and I expect will be continually updated over time. It allows you to track your setting changes over time and will display the current room temperature even when you're away from home and not running the unit. Set up was relatively painless except the manual is missing one critical step where you slide plastic brackets into place on the sides. Syncing with the Wink app was easy and seamed to involve some amazing technological sorcery and has inspired me to look at other compatible smart devices. The fan is relatively loud but provides very consistent white noise as opposed to the expected compressor cycling on older units .... I actually don't hear the compressor at all- it was the compressor cycling on an off while trying to sleep at night that drove me nuts with my old unit. Definitely an overall upgrade for only $10 more than the regular GE at the same BTU

                              Happy with my choice!
                              I have a small mountain cabin that gets scorching hot during the summer. It is often just as hot inside as it is outside. Even after the sun sets, the living room remains ridiculously hot. I spent weeks debating this unit because of the massive amount of negative reviews. Let me just say, I'm glad I took the chance on this unit. 1) I had zero issue putting it together and connecting the Wink app. The app has stayed connected with out any issues. I like it the app on my phone since I really don't need anymore remotes to loose around the house. 2) This unit cranks some amazing cold air and quickly cools a room (of the appropriate size). The top mounted air output really does what it's supposed to. 3) I do not find this unit to be overly loud. The 2 box fans I was using to blow hot air around the house are WAY louder than this unit. If you like the way it looks and are intrigued by the app connectivity, I say go for it. The design and cool air performance is definitely worth it.

                              Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt....
                              I don't normally take the time to right reviews, but i thought I should with the Wink Aros. The unit is great so far. It was easy to put together and and get connected to my phone. I have quite a few Wink items throughout my house and every once in a while it does take a second time to connect, this unit connected right away, first time. The setup instructions are lacking as some users have mentioned, but if you have ever used a window AC unit before, it is pretty self explanatory. For the cost of the product and the features it provides (control with phones, create budget plans, scheduling, gps, etc) the setup instructions are the least of my worries. As many reviewers have mentioned, there are 2 plastic slide in pieces that connect the window extensions to the unit. They are not in the setup instructions. They are labeled R2 and L2, Slide them in on their respective sides and you will be golden. I am using this in my living room at the moment and plan to buy another for the bedroom. I hope they end up making a 10-12k BTU Aros. I'd buy it the day it is released. Great support from the Wink customer service department as well. Live chat and phone calls 24/7. I have found their email response time a little slow, so i just reach out on Live Chat now. Thanks WINK!
