I was hesitant on purchasing a low gallon toilet but after talking to many sales associates at different home supply stores I decided to buy the American Standard Champion 4 1.6GPF. I have the round bowl and I bought it in white. Easy installation. It does however have a larger footprint on the floor than my previous 3.5 GPF did so make sure you have adequate room to install. I've had it installed for 6 weeks now and this toilet performs flawlessly! It's amazing how well it flushes with less water. I've even tried to plug it up with excessive paper and has never plugged up. Highly recommend....throw away your plunger!

Best Toilet Ever!!!!
I just don't know how anyone can complain about this toilet. Read a ton of reviews, compared this to tons of other products and ultimately purchased it online. Cannot say enough about how easy it was to install. Quick quiet flush compared to older models. I certainly will be purchasing 2 more for the other bathrooms. The price was perfect and I now have no worries of overflow with my children and their mounds of toilet paper they use.
Home Depot was top-notch on their delivery promise and were great to work with.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ITEM!!!

Very good product
Having a septic tank and leech bed with clay ground was always a problem when the ground became saturated from heavy rains. The old 4 gallon toilet often needed a plunger even during dry ground conditions. With the 1.6 gal. Champion we have not used the plunger at all. The easy install , efficient flush is a great toilet. The only fault is the rounded flush handle. Your hand sometimes slips off before it is fully depressed.

Great performance--horrible installation
I am no stranger to installing toilets, but this on gave me fits, all went well until tank was being installed and instructions were tighten tank to point of just touching ribs on top of bowl. I could not tighten (or compress gasket to this point) Called help line and was told to "have someone sit on top of tank to compress while tighening bolts". I was able to compress (NO ONE SAT ON TANKWHILE COMPRESSING) but the tank gasket leaked thru the sides to the point of leaking onto the floor,in attempting to remove tank from bowl I found threads on S/S bolts had disformed(probably from attempting to tighten) therefore nuts could not be removed and I had to remove complete unit in one piece and cut bolts. Called factory again and was sent new bolts and gasket, new bolts were BRASS and nut was S/S, the replacement gasket was black rather than blue.Took complete unit back to store for exchange. I installed replacement unit using brass bolts --S/S nuts and a NEW blue tank gasket. all went together as it should with compression being as it should. Since I had leakage from original tank gasket I watched this replacement gasket very closely and it too leaked (appeared to be through sides of gasket) for three days before it sealed itself. It did not leak severly enough to drip on floor, so I of course continued to check for leaks at the tank gasket for another three weeks and no more leakage was noticed.-The question here is : why an obviously different gasket material and bolt material after complaint of leaking?
After this second toilet and installation -ALL IS GREAT,WORKS AS GOOD AS OTHER THREE "CHAMPIONS TOILETS IN MY HOUSE.

It does what it supposed to do all the time
Had this about two months ago and have had no problem AT ALL.
I cant believe I suffered all this time with my old toilet.
Very ease to install, but for that plastic wrench. I went out and purchase a deep socket and had no problem after using the deep socket. I was able to purchase one for 99 cents..

flush away no more plunger needed
haven't needed a plunger in over six months, a rare double flush if too much paper. used to use a plunger 3-4 times a week. I'm sold. Installation nothing sticks out came with wax ring and slow closing and quiet plastic seat. Lot of money for a toilet but it works great. I remember having to really tighten down the tank to get rid of any movement, I have not experienced the worn seal yet.

Poor
Poor quality control. Installed one of these 3 years ago, installed easily and we like it. Bought one to re-model 1/2 bath and no good. Tank to toilet mounting holes way off. Got it replaced and though not as bad, still cannot get it installed correctly. Fed up!!

Flush valve leaks
I have two of these. The flush valve (a vinyl "o" ring about 4 inches in diameter) leaks and causes the tank to partially drain and refill almost constantly. New rings from American Standard were no help. After market rings are worse.

Great design, multiple defects
The design is as good as you see in the online videos. However, TAKE THE TIME TO OPEN AND INSPECT IN THE STORE. I didn't, and had uninstalled the old toilet (in a 1 br condo) before I saw the stains / black marks on the outside of the bowl. I thought I could clean them (it looks like grease from something picking it up side ways - both sides of the bowl) but was wrong - it's under the porcelain glaze.
That was a week ago - today I saw the thing and noticed it looked dark under the rim. On closer inspection, it appears the glaze melted/slid down when created. This is 2 defects from manufacture - the product works great, but these defects mean I have to get it replaced...and that's not easy with 1 toilet and HD way down the road.

Bowl was chipped
Ordered this online since I wanted 1.6gpf. Had it shipped to store. I picked it up and installed it, When I tried to wipe off a smudge on the bowl, it turned out to be a chip in the porcelain. Now it is a never-clean surface. Had to take it out and return. Just bought a toilet from the store since I didn't want to wait on shipping again.

A fine product.
I cannot say enough about how this toilet performs. A great product. Does everything the manufacture said it would do. I like it so much I would like to get down and put my arms around it and give it a hug!!!! I had it professionally installed.

Disappointed
I bought this model Aug 2013 to replace a 15 year old Vortens builders grade which had the tank crack. I am very disappointed with the Champion 4. The first use it clogged! It is properly installed and the chain to the valve is tight. I'm now working to modify it to get greater water flow with each flush. The rest of the commode is nice, its just the flush is poor.

Quiet-Great Flush System
I purchased this toilet for my parents house a few months ago. It has a great flushing system and is surprisingly quiet for the power of flush this toilet delivers. I reccommend the elongated and taller version of this toilet has it has more benefits.

A toilet that keeps working
Best toilet we've ever owned with a guaranteed one flush every time. Got the elevated height that we love and is especially nice for older folks. The only complaint we have is that the flushing handle is not the same quality as the toilet. After a couple of years it broke and we replaced it with a better handle.

Flushes great when the flush handle works
I have owned this model for several years, and in the first six months we replaced the flush handle. It broke off due to plastic piece too lose in the fitting. This happened several maybe four times. Lost count.
Finally replaced the entire flush handle in and out with a generic version (all metal)
This has fixed the issue with the handle so it now flushes first time every time.
I do think it would flush anything as long as the handle works.

Works very well
This toilet works very well, flushing is never a problem. The only drawback is that pet fur sticks to the outside like crazy. I use an anti static cloth, but it never looks clean. I believe that if the sides were flat, it would be much easier to clean.

Could flush a dozen golfballs!
Working for the State Park system, we needed a durable fixture that could withstand the daily abuse of a public facility. The Champion has taken everything they've thrown at it and come through with flying colors. I could use 30 more. Can't wait for my other fixtures to fail so I can replace them with Champions!!!!
