I would recommend this without the shower head, if that makes sense. Had to go with American Standard because replacing exisiting trim that uses American Standard rough-in valve. Considered the nearly identical Model # T415.502.295, but the escutcheon on that one was plastic, and it's metal on this one. What can you say -- it's simple, it works, it seemed to be constructed the same as others we've put in that cost significantly more. What I DON'T like about it is the shower head -- as another reviewer pointed out, it drips after turn-off more than most, and I didn't care for the spring loaded spray setting. i.e. when you shut the water off it snaps back to the initial position. Since we're simple people who don't need 3 shower settings and it's just one more thing to go wrong, we kept our perfectly fine, same finish shower head from before. Can't speak to how it felt, we never used the shower head for a shower -- ran it at install, saw the drips and spring loaded gizmo, and immediatly put the old one back on. The only reason we ordered as a set is because it was cheaper that way, and we needed to replace the other 2 pieces of trim due to discoloration from an earlier leak in the valve. American Standard said this model would be compatible with our exisiting valve, but we needed a new cartridge because the connection to the water turn handle had changed. Re water spots: we have hard water so are in the habit of wiping down fixtures after a shower usually anyway. Stainless steel cleaner (the light oil spray you get for wiping down stainless steel appliances) works fine on this.

Boxed item arrived in an open condition and lacking a part. Apparently Home Depot is known for taking needed parts from other shelved items and then shipping the incomplete set out on order. Doesn't sound like a good way to do business to me. We're still waiting for the part replacement.

American Standard isn't what it used to be.
The parts seems to have a lacquered finish. I have found that that does not last too long. Although I contacted American Standard before I purchased the product I had to buy a new valve body and the replacement handle would not fit. That was $30. The face plate is plastic. Home Depot was great. Delivered on time...no fuss no bother. The trim kits sell in most stores for the same price.

Depends greatly on expectations whether this is a good purchase for you
For the money the trim kit is as expected. The large cover is plastic which, at this price point, is to be expected. The finish is good but until it is mounted in place you may be annoyed at the plastic. Once it is mounted, it is fine. It tolerates a wide range of rough in setbacks.
For me, why this is not scoring higher is that the shower head has 3 spray patterns but the control is spring loaded to always return to the massage/pulse setting. Personally, and this is my shower I am talking about here, I do not like this particular feature especially when it is not mentioned in any of the descriptions or literature. I suppose if you know it's there then at least you can take that in to account for your purchase decision.
It requires a rough in valve and depending on your installation requirements there are several to choose from. That part is quality and I've used American Standard in other installations and have alwas been happy with the function of the valves.

Great Quality
This product works great in the commercial application and at home. My experience at home is my wife, with very long hair, loves it because, although it uses less water, it feels like it is more to get all the soap out of her hair without having stay in the shower longer.
