Poor Quality Control not the RIGHT SIZE
I ordered a 1 1/16" ship auger bit. It turned out to be 1 1/32".

Surpassed My Expectations
This is a great bit. I bought it for a job that required us to bore through red oak 4 x 4's stacked on top of red oak 4 x 6's so we could bolt them together. We drilled 48 holes back to back through 7 inches of red oak and this bit handled it like a champ. I was really impressed with the performance, I'll definitely use these bits in the future.

We used the bit for drilling holes in ice in Colorado. We are a biological consulting company and this job required us to drill over 40 holes and the bit held up just fine.

Auger bits
The Milwaukee auger bits are half the cost of the Ideal brand and are more durable. These are all i have been using the last few years.

Too aggressive and got stuck several times in the maple tree hardwood. I got more done with a wood staple bit.

Disappointed in performance. Have to sharpen bit every time after drilling 4 holes in tree stumps. I clearly expected a better bit than one from Harbor Freight Tools.

Duller than a butter knife
Very disappointed with this Auger.
The bit was very dull not sharp at all. To make a dull bit worse they painted it with thick red paint. I had to use my Delta stone and spend an hour to get the cutting edge even " kind of " sharp. To sum up in 4 words, " expensive piece of junk ".

We used the bit to drill 100 holes through a...
We used the bit to drill 100 holes through a 4 ply LVL beam for bolting the beam together. Bit worked great even when it would hit a nail. Just as sharp at the end as it was the first hole which is pretty good considering the glue content of those beams. Pulled it's self through which save a lot of effort.
