Horrible packaging by the manufacturer but it works well.
I agree with other reviews how this hose was terribly packaged causing the hose to be kinked in spots. My solution was to warm it up with a heat gun ( hair dryer would work also) in the kinked areas and the kinks will come out by squeezing it back into shape. It's a really thick rubber which should have been rolled neater into a bigger plastic bag. The J hooked end will not work as the hose can't support the weight causing it to kink where it enters the waste pipe. Still not giving up my solution for this was to cut off the J hooked end and connect it to an aluminum J pipe with a hose clamp that the blue store carries. Works perfect and no chance of it slipping out of the waste line. Home Depot or the blue store don't have a large selection of discharge hoses to choose from. The only other option is PVC which I don't like as the hose is prone to cracking from all the vibrating of washer machine. Sometimes you just have to improvise or do a little research to find a solution. :) Overall I'm satisfied. It's a quality hose it just needed a little tweaking. With the aluminum j pipe total cost was $15.00 to me that's peace of mind knowing 1. The water will discharge properly without burning out the washer and 2. The hose won't disconnect resulting in water everywhere. Hope this review helped .

Everything stated in the other reviews is spot-on. The thing is actually cheesier than it looks in the photo.
The J-hook at the discharge end is poorly formed. Today it slipped off the laundry tray and flooded the room.

GOOD QUALITY ITEM FOR THE WASHING MACHINE
good quality for the washing machine. Sturdy made.
This hard rubber hose has two significant faults:
1) No Internal Reinforcement
The hose has no external ribbing nor integral nylon cord. Therefore it has no reinforcement whatsoever. That means it will kink. One can use a heat gun to affect a tight radius bend. However, hot water softens the hose material which relaxes the radius, which in turn produces a kink.
Kinks cause two problems:
- weakens the hose material at the point of the kink and invariably results in a leak; and,
- restricts water flow and traps debris which immediately cause a noisy drain cycle, longer overall wash cycles, and premature drain pump failure.
2) Rubber Material - Not Neoprene
The hose material is rubber, which becomes too rigid in cold environmental conditions (including cold water passage) and too soft in hot environments (including hot water passage). Rubber drain hoses suffer premature failure, leaks at connections, kinks at tight radii, and wear at vibration points.
This is an inferior product. Don't be cheap. Either purchase the actual OEM drain hose part, or at the very least purchase a reinforced "kink-proof" synthetic material hose.

Worst purchase ever. Complete Junk.
This hose I bought against my better judgement, The rep in the store suggested this over a real reinforced hose. Its flat profile makes it prone to kinds. Upon seeing this I asked "Wont it kink up"? I was assured it wont and it will work just as good as the more expensive reinforced hose. HA. This hose kinked in 4 places. As a result I couldn't not figure out why my washer kept shutting off and not completing the cycle. Yup. Go figure. It wasn't letting any water drain. I'm definitely bring this junk back. At least its guaranteed.

Total JUNK
This hose is absolute junk. It comes in a package kinked in many places and the kinks can't be straightened out. It twists far too easily. Absolutely cannot be used!
I am surprised that Home Depot carries this kind of junk. I think I'll do my shopping at Lowes from now on.

Junk
The kinks would not come out, no matter what. My washing machine almost burned out because it was spinning so long trying to get the water out when only a trickle could get through. I'm just glad I stayed to make sure it worked (or not) the first time and was able to stop the washer before it got too bad. I can't believe I now have to make another trip to get one that works.

Product not rigid enough, collapses and leaks
I replaced a PVC drain hose with this longer, rubber one from Home Depot. The PVC held its shape better so the pump could extract all of the water from the machine. This rubber version is too flexible--it collapses in on itself, creating a narrower channel and the need for extra pressure to push the water through (Bernoulli's Principle). The pump couldn't apply the needed pressure so the water back flowed out of the drain connection at the back of the machine.

Packaging causes kinks in the hose
Need to return this product. There are kinks in the hose. So we have not opened the package. We decided to arrange our washer and dryer differently so we could use a shorter discharge hose.

Horrible Product
This hose comes wrapped up so tight that in its life in the bag it has developed severe kinks that are next to impossible to work out. Once hooked up those same kinks make the drain cycle of your washing machine exceptionally slow as the water can only trickle out. Stay away from this product.

Uesless
The hose comes in a bag and is kinked multiple places to fit in the bag, these kinks are permanent regardless of what you fo to get them out. The drain water can not flow through the hose and the diswasher stops with the water undrained. IE useless!

hose does not fit the standard drain reasonably tightly so jumps out and floods the floor
